If it's a coroner's court then a jury can be sworn in.
2 years they've been there!

If it's a coroner's court then a jury can be sworn in. 2 years they've been there! Would like to know how you chose a jury for a case duration like this, when it started were they retired, unemployed, etc? We have employees at my work who have been called but for only probably 2 or 3 weeks.

The usual procedure in the Crown Court if the case is anticipated to last more than 2 weeks is to ask individual members of a potential jury if there are any problems they are likely to encounter if they are required to stay longer. The Court is usually sympathetic to any requests not to be allocated to that particular case, and will then either allocate those jurors to other cases or defer their service to a later date.
Serious fraud cases are good examples of such trials.
I'm over 65 and would happily sit in a warm Court for many weeks assessing the evidence, but alas have never been selected.

So many revelations about the disaster came out in the media that weren't known about before and had been hidden from the previous inquest.
Given that the Taylor report were based on flawed evidence, surely those recommendations are questionable. The biggest one being the need to have all seater stadiums.

The jury members in this case will be excused further jury service for life. That happened also to the juries after the Telford Hangings inquests.
It appears that there are, at the end of proceedings, nine jurors remaining. The minimum to start with is seven. By all accounts they have reached a unanimous verdict on 13 of the 14 questions. On the 14th question, as to whether the victims were killed unlawfully, they are split 7/2. A majority verdict is acceptable.
They will have started with eleven jury members but may also have had a couple of "spares" listening to all the evidence and joining the jury if required. The minimum number that can be on the jury is seven.

Unlawfully killed due to gross negligence manslaughter, with supporters' behaviour not a contributory factor.
Wow, that's a damning verdict. The families and supporters of the 96 have been vindicated.

Great shame those at the top of the cover up in government are no longer around to be charged for their part in all this
Massively important case this which brings into question a lot of other issues in the 80s involving working class communities

Slight tear in my eye.............makes us staying up, Leicester winning the League pale into total insignificance, shame Mrs T isn't still about so as we could of heard of her part in one of the worst cover ups in our establishments history...................a truly Great Day.
Justice for the 96.......
More importantly Justice has been seen to have been served.................a phrase you can say less often by the day when the Police are involved in this Country of ours.
Slight tear turned to a full one................well done to all who carried the fight, savor every moment of this historic day and have fond memories of all your Loved ones who WERE UNLAWFULLY KILLED on that tragic day.

No mention of the dear old F.A. in this, who no doubt chose the ground for the Fixture ? The Crown Prosecution Service are now considering Corporate Manslaughter charges against both The FA and Sheffield Wednesday. Duckenfield has a "stay" against him being prosecuted again, which was granted after an attempted private prosecution failed in the late 1990s. If he's to face charges that would have to be removed by some legal means or other.

Thank God, justice at last but why oh why it has taken 27 years for this outcome is beyond me.
We are supposed to live in a democracy but hell, the amount of cover up, lies, shifting blame....shameful.
The persistence of family, of friends, campaigners to finally get to the truth is finally rewarded, at last.
Thank goodness they never gave up.
I hope the CPS now take this on and bring people to book.
Watching this unfold this morning I cried, especially thinking about how so many of the victims could still have been alive well after the 3:15pm cut off time that was previously used to exonerate the police and ambulance service.
Let this never ever happen again.

Absolutely incredible that we've been lied to all these years.
All that reported "fact" about Liverpool fans turning up without tickets has been proven to be complete rubbish.
A dark day indeed.

The efforts of those who campaigned so tirelessly and relentlessly for so long ought to never be forgotten. It would've been so easy to just throw in the towel but they finally got the truth confirmed.
Unfortunately it was only one month ago that a set of fans were chanting 'The Sun was right' in a game involving Liverpool, and I doubt that will ever change as there will always be scum around. But even they can have no doubt what the real 'truth' is now.

I see old Boris Johnson is also being asked to apologise for similar accusations about Liverpool fans causing the disaster in a Spectator article. He's proving rather error prone this week
Similarly it's exceptionally cowardly of rent a quote Mackenzie to go to play the victim card and claim his "truth" article was all down to the police feeding him the story.
