Another game, another penalty given away. I remember during his last spell at the club he was always giving them away. Really unconvinced by him so far this season.
You wonder what exactly MD has done to be exiled from the bench today?
Anyone else noticed Sadler's proneness to giving them away?
As a team that is 4 penalties conceded so far as well. Reason to be concerned?
Discuss.

Where do you start?? Jesus...
Sounded like he had a great game filling in at CB playing away at a very talented Palace side. Really in no mood to be ripping into any of our players after such a performance tonight.
MM has deemed Mickey D not good enough for L1. If Sadler got injured then Mellon would simply bring in a player he feels is up to the task.

A really good performance but do you not consider his penalty record something worth discussing on a forum like this?

Two given away this season we know of but throughout his career?

You say that last time he was here he was 'always giving them away'? Surprised by this as we were all pretty gutted when he didn't stay on. Both full backs haven't been great so far this season. Even the manager admits this. However it is a fool who writes off a player after a handful of games. We've seen so many folks end up with egg on their faces after making snap judgements on our players. I'm just surprised that people haven't cottoned on to this after all this time.

While Sadler has been the main culprit with penalties it's more a collective defensive problem for me
We try to press up to give sides less space to play in, but that does mean sides can get behind us with a bit of pace and it's not something our defence has in great quantities
From the penalties I've seen were trying to play catch up and catching players going away from us. Not too sure how we fix that though - other than defending a bit deeper

Takes the **** that anyone's considering slating our boys after tonight's monumental effort.

Mark , from the game I watched Sadler was playing left back . I think it was him that gave it away in the build up to the first penalty and then he gave away the second . During our strange "keep the ball for 10 minutes and try and gift palace a goal" spell he just booted it out for a throw in! I'm really unconvinced and think MD should be back in immediately . Fair enough palace are premier league but we've shipped goals again tonight and suddenly gone from clean sheets galore last season to not knowing what one is . It's not just down to 1 player but I think both full backs are weak . Needs to be addressed urgently .

Mark , from the game I watched Sadler was playing left back . He was the left sided centre half in a 3-5-2 opposed to left back tonight.

Did we play 352 or 442? I'm absolutely flabbergasted someone who went to the game doesn't know the formation we played.

So if it was a 3 5 2 formation I'll assume that Brown played at WB.
How did he perform?

Brown and Tootle had their best game in a Town shirt tonight. 3-5-2 formation gets the best out of the full backs, definitely worth trying again against Burton. Still can't understand why we ditched it after last season.

If that was Brown's best game then he must have been shocking at Bradford and Oldham as he been shocking in the games I have seen.

I'm not a pessimistic kind of chap, and I wouldn't dare criticise any of our players because they are all professionals who are better than all of us put together.
However, I do remember a few seasons ago - we played well, but gave away dozens of pens without winning any. I also remember the result of that season...
I have absolute faith that they'll sort it out. If they don't, penalties will get us in the end.

what's happened to the lad? he used to be decent and played in the championship now he looks like he would struggle to get in Telfords team.

Think we need to stop banging on about this. Sadler has clearly been brought it to be the number one left back with Brown probably second choice and then NKP if need be. Demetriou has been told he isn't in the first team plans and from what we've heard he's possibly turned down moves elsewhere. Mellon has made his decision and unless there's a dramatic injury crisis then I can't see any way in which Demetriou gets back into the side.
Personally I don't see the fuss over Demetriou, I saw him as a weak point in our team last season and didn't think he could make the step up, I'm not condoning Sadlers performances so far but that doesn't suddenly make Demetriou a better player.
Mellon has made his decision very clear and people on here debating it every week isn't going to change his mind.

Did I watch a different game? I certainly must of watched a different game to the young lad stood next to me slating him. First of all, which I think a few people failed to pick up on last night. Brown was not started as a winger and he was clearly given a specific role defensively and I thought he did really well. Gave Sadler excellent protection who (Sadler) although has come in for some early season justifiable stick I wouldn't make him a scapegoat last night, he did ok. I felt Tootle was much improved though and regardless of the goal stood out for me a long with Agogo. Ryan Woods was superb, he'll have worryingly gained some new admirers last night.

Every time zaha got the ball brown chased him back and won it most of the time , but for me he was too far up to be classed as playing wing back . Maybe I'm used to seeing demetriou play deeper there which is why it doesn't jump out as being a nailed on 3-5-2

But suddenly our defending has gone from heroic to horrific at times. Admittedly were in a higher league but didn't stop us looking solid against Leicester and Norwich last season. Even leutwiller left a lot to be desired last night with his kicking first half which hasn't seemed to be mentioned? And how he kept things out second half flapping and kicking that one shot away I will never know !

It's because Gayle got in Leutwiller's head when kicking out of his hands.

Actually thought Sadler had a half decent game last night and on Saturday at Oldham.
But I suppose if you have a scapegoat you have to find something to slate them for.......

Actually thought Sadler had a half decent game last night and on Saturday at Oldham. But I suppose if you have a scapegoat you have to find something to slate them for....... Shrewsbury v Millwall - tripped Morrison. Admitted so himself. Penalty. Shrewsbury v Chesterfield - failed to close down Ebanks Blake and let him get his shot away. Goal. - let Chesterfield player get goal side of him. When cross came in it hit his leg which cushioned the ball for the Chesterfield player. Goal. Crystal Palace v Shrewsbury - Not sure what he was trying to do here. Backpass to Leutwiler or pass across the box. When this failed to come off, panicked and put arms round Murray. Should have cleared lines 1st time. Penalty. So plenty to find..and those are only the goals conceded.

But people on here clearly have an agenda and will hammer him for anything. If you REALLY wanted to, you could pick faults in every player in every game. But some supporters have got it in their head that Sadler is their target and will focus on him. It happens every season and is embarrassing to be quite honest. Hopefully he comes good and makes each and every one of you eat your words!
