Agreed. Quite happy for him to make an informed decision on what is best for his career and go for it. And as for agents being driven by money - I'm sure that is a factor but I also suspect they are not stupid and recognise that looking after their client's interests long-term will benefit them too. I think Ant and Camden are missing my point in that he has had a good number of weeks to consider his options, and rightly so, however it is in his own interests to be decisive now, and at this important junction of his career not to miss pre-season at whichever club he joins for the sake of dithering! I don't see a week or two as that big of a hindrance. And if his agent is worth his salt then he will be making sure he has a pre season fitness regime regardless.

Hopefully he will be disciplined enough to follow it

I've no problem with him taking time to explore all his options, even though it keeps us waiting. Failing to report for pre-season training however, is unprofessional and not having the courtesy to inform his manager (who has been publicly very supportive when others might have criticised) of his plans or whereabouts is selfish and thoughtless.
Hard to escape the conclusion that he's another young player with too high an opinion of himself. Either he'd better be as good as he thinks he is or he should grow up fast and stop acting like a dick.

I guess hes technically not our player anymore, as his contract has expired, so is he technically AWOL?
I did not see Grando in any of the pre season pictures so anyone slating Ginnelly should also be slating our beloved Grandison too?
That said, its a real shame we can keep hold of both of them (if thts the case) Grando is something we have not had for years, a real cult hero, and Ginnelly is clearly a lad with a promising future ahead of him (that we could potentially lose for nothing)
You never know what can happen in football and where the both might end up, you just hope they have the decency to let the club know whats going on so they can plan for a future with or without them,

Regarding Grando I am sure it has been stated he has rejected 2 contract offers so is not the same as Ginnelly keeping everyone in limbo!

Grando deserves more respect than some kid who has hardly kicked a ball for us, clearly has a massive huge opinion of himself. A lower league Raheem Sterling. Can't stand 'wonderkids' like him, either sign soon or clear off.

Regardless of Ginnelly's status, a phone call wouldn't go amiss keeping the Club informed. Even if it was just to say I'm not signing for you.
Classless.

Simple question, does he want to play in League 1 with fans and games that matter for a season or two and learn his trade.
Or join a higher league team and play in Under 21 games with zero crowds at Football outposts like the Leigh Sports Village.
The lack of contact is a slap in the face to all Town fans, even if he does re-sign for us the lad has some making up to do.

Two questions - why is it a slap in the face to town fans and secondly - what guarantee would he have of playing in the first team even if he stayed here? Edit: Just seen he hasn't made any contact to the manager which I agree is rude at best.

However guess that also makes it more annoying all this fuss over someone who has done nothing and might not even kick a ball nex season for us if he stayed.

If he signs for us we retain a decent young prospect and it shows the club in a good light. If he signs elsewhere we receive a small amount in compensation and it frees up his wages to add to the striker pot! Win / Win

If this is true i'd personally be tempted to withdraw the offer of employment (obviously without telling him) and pool together the money offered to him and Mangan to get someone in who actually wants to play for us and can make a difference (not that I have any gripes with Mangan).

Not done himself any favours. Why would any other club want to sign a player with that attitude.

So he wasn't offered an academy scholarship by Villa at 16 and was released. Given an opportunity by STFC he did well and has been offered 2 pro contracts, despite only making some very brief appearances for the 1st team. Listening to MM's interview, he also feels Ginnelly needs further development before getting close to being a 1st team regular. Yet having been released by Villa, one can only assume for not showing enough potential, he now appears to be giving the club that gave him a chance a big kick in the teeth. Some of those at Villa who were given a chance and weren't released when Josh was, and were then subsequently released would probably kill to be in Ginnelly's shoes and have a pro offer from a 3rd tier club (some may have had better offers, I don't know) Here's just one example of a player who was good enough to be retained when Josh was released who now plays in the 9th tier Midland Alliance. linkGinnelly is a lucky lad who's been given more than one great opportunity by STFC yet doesn't seem to recognise this.

Total over reaction on here. The lad has no contract with us so his free to do as he sees fit.

Correct, but peoples gripes are the lack of courtesy shown to MM by not even getting in touch to say what he's doing. A quick call to say 'Thanks, but I'm not going to sign' and MM could focus elsewhere. Anyway, personally I offer Ginnelly good luck, still an STFC product, the higher he goes, the better it shows our set up is.

I suppose he's also free to do as he sees fit in terms of his professionalism and manners. But it seems a bit daft, and perhaps unprofessional, not to be training now when he's going to be competing with fully prepared clubmates for a squad place wherever he ends up. And it's undeniably discourteous simply to ignore your own manager when you know he's preparing his squad for the season. He doesn't have to give him a decision if he's not ready, just telling him he's not ready yet would be something. Or ask his agent to do that if he can't be bothered (or lacks the bottle) himself. Sure, he has all the rights and freedom he could want. But they don't come without responsibilities and it's time Ginnelly faced up to his and showed some common courtesy.

Good luck Josh, remember your only one challenge away from ****sville. Break a leg son. Would'nt wish that on the lad at all. Bit extreme. We've had the lad for 2 years, helped develop him and now he has the options to join Premier League and Chanpionship clubs. His contract has expired and he is no longer our player. If he was still under contract and doing this it would be a different story (admittedly he should have at least phoned Mellon to say he won't be in) To be honest, I think that he hasn't even got a guarantee of first team football here and it might have put him off a bit. If he chose to go somewhere where they give youth a chance e.g Someone similar to Southampton,Swansea etc then I can't blame him. I think it's too easy to say he's a "money grabber" etc when we don't know all the facts.

His attitude and rudeness to the manager clearly indicate he does not have the right DNA for us. I'm sorry but he has had weeks to sort himself out. Wherever he ends up he should be professional enough to be training somewhere.
With regard to Grandison, for all we know he is keeping MM up to date with what he wants to do which means the two cases are not comparable.
Manners cost nothing and someone should be advising Mr Ginnelly of this fact. If the answer to MM is no, then tell him Josh you will feel a great relief when you have done so.

He is a young lad led by dreams and the influence of his agent ...of course the example of Ryans and Conor's progress and development last year should be a good guide to helping him with a sensible decision but that's not how it works youngsters, get their heads turned by the thought of signing for a bigger club, more monies without seeing they could easily be discarded by the bigger club as the level of attainment required is much higher and he may be on the slippery slope before he knows it...but we all love to dream! He could just make it! I just prefer it was with us!
