Have just been reading the Star's report on the game.
It says that we were fortunate to get away with a claim for a penalty in the 40th minute after Grandison held Harrad to prevent him getting away a shot.
As I wasn't at the game I'd appreciate some views on this. Have Cheltenham possibly been at the wrong end of a Kettle decision or was it just a 50/50 ball?

Can't have been 50/50 as the ref seemed to give all those to Cheltenham. At worse for Cheltenham it was another bad decision by a self opinionated ref. At best for us if it was a penalty, for once we were on the right side of a bad decision.

Well, if it was a penalty that just confirms my comments made before the match that at some point in the 90 minutes Kettle would be likely to have to make a crucial decision and get it wrong. Cheltenham fans had the same concerns.
By the way, how did Kettle perform? Not seen one word said about him after the game.

He was his usual useless self and got pelters at times from Salop's 12th man.

Only Joe King.

I'd say his worst decision was giving Cheltenham a corner when it was clear for all to see that the Cheltenham player headed the ball out.

Assume that was the incident in front of block 6 in the first half? If so definitely not, Harrard was all over Grando and pulled him back first. I wasnt even worried it would be given. Thought Cheltenham were pretty dirty and looking for anything, that said I don't blame them, desperate times and all that...

Can anyone else recall seeing any of Gary Johnson's teams playing as cynically as Cheltenham did yesterday? I know they were fighting for their lives but even Matt Richards was leading with his forearm/elbow along with a number of his team mates, most of these misdemeanours were missed by the chocolate Kettle and his team. I was convinced that he was going to give something unjustified against us. Kettle śtrikes me as the type of ref who would hear us singing "We are going up" and thinking "Not if I can help it!"

Heard on Radio Shropshire that their forward was lucky not to get a red card for a late challenge on Lutweiler which left him in need of treatment . Seemed to me that they were content on firing the ball long , time after time and piling in after it , hoping to knock it and any Town player into the net . Also got the impression that our defence was immense , particularly Ellis.

Yep that challenge was late and avoidable from where I was sat in block 6 (so not that near!) Be interesting what others thought. Generally I don't like forwards getting sent off for challenging over protected keepers but if he could have pulled out then it should have been a red. Ellis was immense and blocked a certain goal at the end.
Kettle was poor but didn't fall for any of their dubious 'penalty' dives, at least one of which had to be a booking once he'd not given a pen. Anyone see what happened when Ellis went down like a sack of spuds at that corner in the first half? A punch from Manset? Would have bet against 22 players finishing the game at HT but it calmed down a bit second half.

The annoying thing about the challenge is that there appears to be no consistency. Andy Mangan was sent off at Hartlepool for a far less innocuous challenge.

I loved it when the ball came into our end and was thrown back hitting their trappy, whinging left back on the end of the nose. He went down like a sack of spuds and it looked for all the world as if a stretcher would be needed. One of his team mates started hurling abuse at Town fans and Collo managed to calm him down.

Ellis went down after their big, but useless, No. 15 brought his elbow up into Ellis' face during a pre-corner roughing up. Neither of the officials close enough to see it did. I can't say how much force the lad used but a definite movement into the face, lucky to get away with it.

I saw a role of the shoulder not an elbow but the majority think it was an elbow so I might be wrong.

It was Sarfend and Andy Mangan's was for a second yellow. Also Andy Mangan's the cards were coming out with him about 10 feet away from the keeper because everyone in the ground knew what was going to happen

Ah but that was after January 1st so it didn't count. It looks like they need 2 awards one for each half of the season!!!! Or at least wait and start the voting in March at the earliest.

Our goal against Sarfend was far less of a mistake than Jayson's away to Northampton and home to Cambridge both of which were in added time

As the above shows, what do I know?!!!!!! I was only pointing out that I feel to vote for a team of the season in January when the season goes on to May seems ridiculous whether it would eventually include Shrewsbury players or not.

Totally agree with that Same with the award for Grimes who only played half the season at Exeter. It will be annoying if JFH gets the award for League 2 manager of the year (which he probably will) having not done a whole season and inherited a good position in the league. I could nominate any number of others like MM, Ainsworth and Phil Brown who have been there for the duration.
