this is either gong to be a massive away win or a surprise result, as Chelt. are desperate for points, to survive, as are we to have a hope of the title.
in their last 6 home games chelt. have beaten Cambridge ant tranny, drawn with mansfield and lost to stevo, Plymouth and Exeter. 7 out of 18. shrews have lost 1 game in 8.
their star striker is burns with 4 goals,
fewer games matter to us this week burton v Northampton, bury v wombles, southend v luton, and Wycombe v Morecambe
predictions. AJ is tempted to go 4-1 to salop, but a nagging doubt of 1-0 to Cheltenham or a 0-0 draw is persuasive enough to make it 1-0 to salop, but be prepared for a sting in the tail on this one. nothing is nailed on in the last 2 games of the season. so much is at stake.
come on you blues, Floreat Salopia!

On paper this is an away banker but as we know football is not played on paper. A defeat for Cheltenham could well be enough to send them down and out of the football league so expect them to come out fighting. It's going to be a tough encounter. I just hope that we can get an early goal as they will then have to chase the game. I am going to be on pins Saturday afternoon that's for sure.

2-1 I'm afraid and Burton drawing and Wycombe winning so a win needed on the last day to both get promoted and win the league, as long as Burton lose!
Although the scenario gets worse with Southend beating Luton and Plymouth losing to a desperate Tranny and Newport getting the win at York putting them on equal points with Luton and Plymouth for the last play-off place.............
A fairly exciting scenario for the final day!

Fully expect a Town win to give us our highest ever points total.

I won't even predict a safe, nothing match never mind one like this.
Win, we're up, title race still alive and break our points record - how fantastic Saturday could be.
Wins for Plymouth and Northampton would make it even better.
But a draw's to be celebrated almost as much because we'll be up and that's what matters most.
And a defeat won't be the end of the world - just means we'd (probably) need to take our last chance against Plymouth.

If we get the first goal the floodgates will open and should be a comfortable victory for us. If Cheltenham get the first goal they will then defend for their lives and will probably revert to a 10-0-0 formation, even if they score in the first minute!

I am torn between czarcasm' 0-0 and Grizzlyshrew's optimism. hopefully Mickey and the squad be up for it. would love MM and the squad to lift the trophy for the Owd Lad in the boardroom. he and all of us deserve it, but quite happy with promo.

Am fearful that somewhere in the 90 minutes Kettle is going to make an absolutely crucial decision..and get it wrong!
Mind you, I think the Cheltenham supporters have exactly the same concerns!

We can take absolutely nothing for granted. We lost to both Tranmere and Hartlepool away. That should be warning enough that this will be far from easy.

Agreed, however we have stepped up a level since then. Portsmouth away etc. Players won't take it for granted however if we play like we did against Exeter at home (the most complete Town performance I've ever seen) we should beat these, the table doesn't lie.

We'll certainly need to improve on our performances at Hartlepool and Tranmere, both of which were appalling. Mansfield wasn't much better.
On the basis of these previous encounters away at the bottom teams, Cheltenham have a decent chance, and Saturday is far from a banker.

Cheltenham fan here. Obviously we're fighting for our lives and anything can happen in football etc etc but if you score early I have no doubt you'll nail us 3 or 4 nil. Hoping we can keep it tight for as long as possible and nick a goal. Good news for us is we should have one or two returning from injury including Wes Burns and Danny Haynes who on their day can tear anyone apart, hopefully from our point of view they'll be fit to start on the wings. Our defence is shocking though and with the atacking players you have I'd be amazed if you didn't score at least a couple. If Deaman starts at CB all you have to do is kick a high ball up to him and he'll let it bounce, fail to clear it, let you have possession and let you score Hearing there'll be lot of you in our end, wouldn't surprise me at all if there are more Shrews fans there on the day. Just try and be nice when you're celebrating promotion while sending us down Heart says 2-1 Cheltenham, head says 3-0 Shrews.

We'll go 1 down but end up winning 1-8, Burton will lose to Northampton 0-5, pick up 11 injuries and a point deduction for fielding and ineligible player.

Because of what is at stake, a very tough match for us. But for the same reason, even tougher for Cheltenham. So I predict 2-0 to Salop.
It will be sad to see Cheltenham drop out of the league.
But a 23rd clean sheet for Jayson and his Argonauts ... promotion... and a return to the top of the table after Burton drop points at home to the Cobblers... will cheer me up no end.

Tranmere and hartlepool both are playing top teams this weekend too, so Cheltenham will definitely be up for it to save their league existence.

I think it will be a surprise with Shrewsbury winning by technical KO in the 3rd over.

Thinking back to the great escape year when we played Brighton in the last home game and scraping a 2-1 win; the ground was packed with nerves from the home fans.
I would imagine much the same from Cheltenham tomorrow desperate to win tomorrow and not get relegated on their own patch. Nerves, nervous energy and tension could get the better of them tomorrow. A lot more at stake for them than us.

It's a football buzz word but tomorrow is all about game management, controlling the pace and intensity of the game at key times, not getting drawn into a cup tie style game and picking them off when we get the chance. Pompey away was a text book example of this. If we keep the ball well and close them down we'll get the chances so don't need a flashy performance, just don't let them get confident or build any momentum and we'll be fine.

Got really nervy scoring two second half pens I think and coming back from a goal down.
