an excellent result last night with Stevenage robbing Burton of 2 points, following a 1-1 draw.
on Saturday we entertain the daggers whose away form has been impressive in the last 6 away games, taking 13 from 18. beating Stevenage 1-0,tranmere 3-2,morecamb 3-2york 2-0. drawing 1-1 at Cambridge and losing 2-1 at Mansfield.
they are in 15th place with goals for 46 against 52 their main hotshot is Striker Jamie Cureton aged 40 with 15 goals. remember him. he missed a sitter against Wycombe last week. we best keep him quiet. also striker hemmings 6, and mid fielder howell 5
I issue my usual caveats against high scoring teams now matter how lowly. AJ goes with a gate of 5331 and 2-0 to town.
Barnett and grant. a busy Easter for Town, but let us view our rivals games, and I am not including teams below play offs.
camb. v bury, Newport v h/pool, Plymouth v burton, southend v Mansfield, Wycombe v oxford.
Plymouth v burton stands out for me as a possible win for argyle who are on form and need to cement a play off place.
so go for it Town, 3 more points please. COYB FS

Will be another tough game and we will need to play well (or at least take or chances) to come out on top.

Will be another tough game and we will need to play well (or at least take or chances) to come out on top. It seems me to that the taking of chances is our major failing. Might be worthwhile giving Mangan a start to get an early advantage or at least bring him on with half an hour to go to batter a tiring Daggers back line. Never seems to get any game time with JLAA, so might be worth swapping him for Collins, who doesn't appear to be firing on all cylinders at the moment. I know JLAA isn't firing either in the goalscoring stakes, but he works teams hard and creates, so he could the man to load the guns for Mangan and least Mangan tends to take more chances than he doesn't. I know Collins is our top scorer, but his goal to minutes ratio pales against Mangans.

Don't care if comes off a players backside and we win one-nil.
All about 3 points now.
Dag & Red will bring hardly any so a early goal then I'd expect us to push on and hammer them, however doesn't always work that way sadly.

Although Collins has been immense up front this season, hassling defenders with his robust & physical approach and his fitness in closing down opponents I think he really needs a rest - especially as we approach 6 games in April.
If, and it's a big if, Mangan is back to some level of match fitness, then it may be worth starting with him up front alongside either Barnett or Akpa-Akpro - Mangan's goals to games ratio is excellent IMHO and only injury has stopped him from having achieved 20+ goals this season.
O/T - I didn't realise that Mangan & Joey Barton were good mates...Barton wathced us vs Pompey on Saturday

A tough game although perhaps Dagenham are as close as you could get to a team who has nothing to play for with 7 games left. Ironically it's our away form that has been looking more solid in recent matches and a convincing performance at home and 3 points would be most welcome on Friday. COYB

They are all going to be very nervy games at present (at least until something gets sorted for definite). I'll take a win whatever way it takes at this stage, but expect to see Cureton score against us so we will need to score at least 2 to win it.
COYB - lets prove me wrong, score a couple early on and make it fairly plain sailing.

You may all laugh at old AJ, and I am used to ridicule. Beware of James Cureton. he was crap with us on loan at inflated salary from Norwich city, but stand on me mush, he was immense and a prolific top scorer at Exeter, Cheltenham and now the Daggers. only just 40 this owd lad will pounce on anything up front, rebounds of bums, push outs by goalies. you name it, Jamie will pounce so MM and MMM keep this young man quiet.

On paper we couldn't ask for a kinder batch of home games to finish. Might not be so straightforward in practice though - Daggers, Exeter and York all have better away records than home. Exeter's away record is better than ours and the other two are close behind.
Didn't expect Cambridge and Northampton to restrict us to a point ...

I do hope we have enough points to go up by 2/5 as Plymouth, still fighting for a play off place could pose problems. still with rivals playing rivals, town could yet be champions. a little bit of silver to replace the Rodington Dairies silver tops that Roland keeps in the silver cupboard.

current league table ======================== burton p39 gd 24 p77 town---39-----30--74 wycomb--39----22--74 -------------------------- bury----38----13--67 southend38----9---63 Newport 39----3---61 plymouth39----17--60 ------------------------ luton---39----7---58 stevenage39---6---58 northampt39---8---56 Exeter---39----1--55 I have not gone any further down as IMO Northampton may reach the play offs at Luton Towns expense, given luton's rotten run of 6 games. do hope town's result and rivals go our way.

Liam makes it, so it is the same XI.
Josh Ginnely added to the bench after signing as a pro last week, replacing Clark.
