Non-season ticket holders are being asked to pay £8 to watch the youth team vs a Telford XI.
Must have been close to bedtime at the retirement home housing the Shropshire FA when they dreamt up this. Why not reduce it to free entry for kids. Sub 100 attendance for a game neither side needs - move it back to the summer ffs.

it may be our only bit of silverware in the cabinet. I am sure Rowland wants rid of those Rodington Dairies silvertops and SSC cup and League 2 champions cups replacing them.

Competition has been dead for many years now - time to ditch it completely Considering the history behind the competition I think that would be a great shame. Clubs play enough games in the off season, there shouldn't be any reason why this competition can't be accommodated. Agree it needs to be looked at but surely they can fit it in somewhere. If its just the four clubs going forward (Town, Telford, Ellesmere and Market Drayton) then I wonder whether it would be possible to get the competition played over a Saturday and Sunday in the summer. Two games played each day, semis on the Saturday and the third place and final on the Sunday. Not sure whether the logistics would be an issue with previous problems between Town and Telford supporters but that might appeal. Charge 10 quid sure but giving you access to the stadium for both days. Sure that would appeal to the Shropshire FA, a real big annual event bringing together the country's top football clubs and football supporters. I wonder if thats ever been considered for each summer...or maybe they've already tried that approach?

Having the minority of Town and Telford idiots at the same ground on successive days and for a number of hours would be a recipe for disaster. Such a shame the few spoil it for the masses.

The whole competition has become a fiasco over the last dozen or more years in trying to create something that anyone is really interested in. There is never any time that the clubs like Town & Telford can fit in sensibly (as there are plenty of other more interesting & useful options, such as promotion/relegation/play off ambitions, or pre season training tours). Add to that apart from those two clubs you never know who is going to make up the numbers from lower down the pyramid, or indeed as happened a few years ago the likes of non Shropshire clubs Wolves or even Sheffield Wednesday.
TBH the competition has been walking dead for several years now, it's a bit like the Home International Champs that were killed off - were lamented for 12 months then totally forgotten about as they had had their day. Same should happen here.

Whilst its never going to be the top of anyone's priority it does amaze me how the SFA and possibly the clubs have made a mess of it.
To me it isnt rocket science, you hold the semi-finals and final in pre-season and announce the dates early (possibly now). The clubs know the dates and therefore work their pre-season schedules around it - Shrewsbury and Telford are kept apart and would play an away fixture at the likes of Ellesmere, Shifnal, Market Drayton etc before a final is played at either us or Telford - what is difficult about that?
The semi-finals would see a half decent following from both clubs as they are local and fans are getting their footy fix after the summer. The final would then likely involve us and Telford and would probably get a gate of around 1,500. Not huge but certainly a lot more respectable than a couple of hundred who will be there tonight.
There are many who couldnt care less about the SSC but to others (on both sides) its a little bit more competitive than your average pre-season game and gives a little bit of bragging rights. To try and play it during the season or at the end it just becomes a nuisance to everyone.

When was the last time town played 2 matches at the same time?? It was in the days of Gary Peters and the 'multiball' system with all the ballboys having a ball to get the ball back in play asap.
We quite often had 2 balls on the pitch and 2 games going on!!

The old Telford hands must have been bitterly disappointed watching the Town kids shaking bottles of tizer around the Bucks Yed.

I read yesterday that Tinpots manager Compo from last of the summer wine stating that they would 'treat the cup with the respect it deserves' - possibly a dig at us.
Clearly they were inaccurate comments. Didn't Ellesmere give our youth team a tougher encounter in the semi final?

That's really strange, there's a good chance that I was the former owner of that. I recall selling it shortly after that game on eBay for about 60p.

Sadly, as I understand it, that was a indeed a First XI or there about.
It's an indictment of our current predicament. The soul of or club has been sacrificed on the altar of the egos of certain individuals. Can I emphasise that none of these "individuals" are people who were closely involved with the rebirth of the club in 2004. They are bandwagon jumpers who've appeared since. People with little interest in football but see it as a notch on their CVs.
I've been to three or four games this season. It cost me around £50 or £60 for my daughter and I to watch Telford play. We can watch out local team, West Brom, play on certain occasions for half that. In the Premier League! In my opinion no non-league ticket should be more than £8 but instead greed rules. Lost the plot has never been more appropriate.
Well done on the SSC win. I suspect you can bury the Trophy along with the competition. The latter killed by the idiots of the Shropshire FA who I wouldn't allow to organise a raffle.
