All credit to MM for so far managing us successfully through the mini crises this season: the poor spell during September which saw us lose 3 consecutive away games, the goal drought over the Christmas/New Year holiday period and more recently, the serious injuries to key players. It's in times like these that good managers reveal themselves and I'm ever more convinced that we have a little gem.

The recruitment of the right type of players, contracted to our club is the best part of his work in my view.

Another mini crisis overcome as we now seem to have found a formation again and personnel that are effective, added of course to the influential return of our captain. Three wins in three... Great stuff MM

Interestingly today, we went back to a side that started a game about 6 months ago in the same formation. 3-5-2 really is the way to go with this squad of players. Centre Midfield is the big one for me, with LL and Woods we have one of the best pairs in the division.

Defence has been pretty consistent all season and while the strikers don't get loads of goals they do ok, and AA coming back in the side has added pace up front. But its when the midfield clicks that we really play well. Having Lawrence back fit has been a big boost and seems to have helped Woods and particularly Grant find form again Have to admit a month or so ago when he was out of form I was pressing for Clark to start ahead of Grant but he's really looked sharp these last 5 or so games. If the midfield three stay fit and on form for the rest of the season we'll get promoted

Great stuff MM And this is exactly why we need to keep the faith when the next mini crisis comes along as it inevitably will.

Statistically it is near enough impossible that a team who wins 67%, say, of their games over a season will go through it going Win Win Draw Win Win Lose etc etc. "Clumps" of one type of result will always happen purely due to statistical noise, and aren't indicative of either crises or a sustained upward deviation from the norm.
The Head of Stochastic Modelling at my workplace sits near me and is also a huge football fan. He was showing me one of his creations only the other day to demonstrate that what is popularly considered form is rarely the case. Indeed it's people over-reacting to these supposed crises that often turn them into genuine issues.
Not saying it's right or wrong, just a different way of thinking that I'm fairly receptive to.
The point here being that Mellon hasn't presided over any crises this season, just expected fluctuations in results. Three wins on the bounce doesn't mean we're any different as a team to a month ago.
Anyway I'm off to the bathroom to plough through some Devil's dandruff and get back on the session lagers.

Brilliant from Heavyglow there.
If our recent dip in form was a crisis, however mini, I'd hate to think what a real football crisis is like. Going bust?
