Quite a frustrating half that...
Town easily the better side and really should be creating more chances against a team who aren't offering much at all... Nearly shot ourselves in the foot with a bad back pass (that woke a few of us up) and have the keeper to thank for a smart save.
Oh, crap reffing display too. Some very poor decisions and has managed to get in the way of play on a couple of occasions..
A bit more entertainment required in the second half please.

And again our problem. Plenty of good football... but no goals.
0-0 at half times means that in our last 150 minutes of football (including added on time)... we have had 30 attempts on goal, without one single goal to show for it.
The woodwork hasn't been kind to us of late, and again today... but maybe we aren't getting into the box enough,
And as that is Mangan's strength; I would far rather see him start and if his injury niggles impede him, replace him with JLAA, rather than the other way round.
While we are flying at the opposition on all four cylinders in the first half, that is when he would be at his most effective, rather than later into the 2nd half when everything slows down... especially if the pitch is energy-sapping.
Get ourselves 1-0 up in the 1st 15 minutes, and the opposition have then to come out and open themselves up... then more goals would follow.
Still 0-0 approaching the hour mark... and make that 31 attempts on goal with no reward in the last 165 minutes of football.
We ain't going to get promoted on 0-0 draws.

And again this half, three efforts have been from Collo: three from outside the box.
Nobody seems to be getting behind them... and being picked out.
And when we do, the effing linesman raises his flag!!
Mango on... come on Shrews... keep going.

Well -onthepitch-, they came and "parked the bus" (to quote the "special one"). No doubt if they had held on, they would have claimed the point as a masterpiece of strategy, and they even had a couple of dangerous breaks that could have really rubbed the salt in.
I think we are going to have to expect much more of the same in the 2nd half of the season, as our reputation goes before us.
But well done Town: justice was finally done.

I'm at a wedding in Leeds, but the BBC stats show an absolute battering. Great result!

Great to finally get the goal late on, but a frustrating match to watch.
Morecambe set out to frustrate us which they did really well, but we didn't help ourselves at times with too many sideways slow passes when we needed a bit of zip and pace to break down their structure
Collins was superb again never stopped working, but midfield looked a bit off key and could do with some pace in the centre so we can run at sides.
Great to get 3 points without quite firing on cylinders

Don't ordinarily like to criticise a team on one performance as I'm sure Hartlepool could say we're a s**te team but **** me, Morecambe were one of the most negative, cynical, hoof-ball merchants I've ever seen. 5 or 6 wouldn't have flattered us. They didn't even attempt to attack or pass the ball until they went behind and their keeper was their MOTM by a mile, despite time-wasting from the 5th minute.
Guess we should take it as a compliment that teams set up like that against us but at times there looked at least 2 leagues between us.

Have to agree that Morecambe weren't exactly Barcelona - I do love a late goal against a side who timewaste from the off, mind - but saying their keeper was their best player is perhaps not completely true. He made a couple of fairly routine saves, and one brilliant one (plus the one from which Mangan scored the rebound) but no different to Leutwiler, really. Thought their number 2 looked excellent; the best player on the park as both their best defender and most potent attacking outlet.
Pitch certainly wasn't that bad - a little bobbly, perhaps - but the referee was. By god he was awful. How their keeper avoided a booking - and that tackle on Demetriou (?) at the end of the first half he gave a free kick for was comical. Collins was excellent I thought, as was Grant, but Woods and Lawrence frustrated me - the former needs to take more risks and the latter fewer. Goldson, Ellis and NKP were plenty solid - when Connor drives forward with the ball he has the knack of drifting past players as if they're not there that Yaya Touré has perfected. Mangan showed yet again what he offers. JLAA did a reasonable job of tiring out the Morecambe defence, and if Mangan isn't 100% it isn't the end of the world; that must be at least half his goals that have come when he's started on the bench.
Very satisfying

Not what fans want to come and watch as it can be (like today) infuriating! Although it hasn't really worked for anyone who has tried it yet has it? Sounds like Connors header should of stood though, things could have been very different by the final whistle if the officials had been at the very least competent! Oh well, 3points all the same...

Morcambe were very ordinary and lacked any ideas going forward. Time wasting par excellence. I sat by the dugouts today and the amount of hassle, grief and abuse Ken McKenna was giving the linesman and Fourth Official right from the start was shocking. How he wasn't sent to the stands is beyond me.

Also thought it was great how the score board correctly predicted the winning goal would be scored by a substitute too!

As wins go, that was pretty unenjoyable, not because the team played poorly, but because I spent the entire game thinking "Jesus Christ, surely we're not going to drop 2 point here?" whilst being subjected to 85 minutes marred by their goalkeeper holding the ball for as long as humanly possible, a 75 year-old Kevin Ellison running into things and pushing people over, and the referee blowing or not blowing his whistle at seemingly entirely random intervals.
Not exactly a game we'll be talking about for years to come, but a thoroughly deserved win nonetheless. Unfortunately, we're going to have to put up with a lot more of away teams trying to spoil things. It hasn't actually worked for anyone yet, but the last team who turned up and tried to engage us in a football match at the Meadow got pumped 5-0, so you can't really blame people for just parking the bus.

And yet this "poor" Morecambe side last week completely battered the Hatters in an equally one-sided game.
Either a case of "funny old game" ... or they got their game plan wrong today ... or it bodes well for us for the TV game at Luton.

I think Morecambe are not that bad and have had some good results against the top sides yes they time wasted and had limited ambition but they are not alone in that I don't think many sides this season will come and play bright attacking football against after the way we beat Bury Incidentally thought Stu Drummond played well he is still a very competent player at this level

We seem very stable, solid and consistent at the moment. Very patient and professional performance today and we got our reward in the end. It's going really well going into the busy Christmas period with only a spate of injuries/suspensions a possible threat to our momentum

A couple of very deluded people on that thread if they thought a draw would have been a fair result - we really bossed that game and played some cracking stuff - over 20 shots at goal and some excellent chances. Well done Salop!

Another win against a team who made it difficult and settled for a point from the off. IMO I don't think their keeper was time wasting that much in the 2nd half, certainly seen worse examples including our own keeper. It was the throw ins and free kicks that seemed to take an age for me.

Was interesting listening to some of their fans after the game. The one was saying to his mate "I wouldnt say we were robbed but wasnt far off", that made me laugh. Also they were saying that we were nothing special and would really struggle if we went up. Whilst yesterday wasnt a great performance, its hard to have a free flowing performance when you are up against opposition like that and the way they approached the game.
With our home record we have to get used to teams coming to defend, I just wish some our fans could see that and have patience.
