The pitch seems to be cutting up badly which has not been a problem previously. I know we had a fair bit of rain in November but I was under the impression a sand based pitch would cope with it adequately?

There haven't been many hard frosts which contribute to drying the pitch out. No matter how much sand you have in it water will remain.

Milder than average Sept, Oct & Nov (as hinted above wrt to few hard frosts so far this season) coupled with extra games played in the League Cup may be factors. The GM pitch hasn't cut up as much as other pitches have in the past, by after 7 seasons at the new ground, maybe in need of replacement?
Interesting to see MJ with our back 5 passing the ball around in the pre-match warm up on Saturday...three or four passes and then a ball passed to the wings, strikers of holding midfielders.
I only hope that it doesn't affect our passing game - although if we come up against a team using the long ball tactic, I feel that out back 3 of NKP, Jermaine & Connor should be able to cope with anything.

The GM pitch has been renewed since we've been there - maybe 2-3 years ago? According to the Met Office, temperatures were 1.3 - 1.6C above average in Sept/Oct (and Nov felt similar to me). Rainfall was only 23% of average in September but 125% in October. October sunshine was below average (91%), so maybe a big increase in rainfall in warm conditions but with lower sunshine meant the pitch didn't dry out as well as it might. My lawn would certainly cut up if a bit of footie was played on it! It's a concern if we get another wet month. We need a good surface to play a passing game.

I think major work has been undertaken on the pitch in each of the last few close seasons, so not sure what the problem is?

I have to say, whatever the problems are we seem pretty able to play pretty well on it to me, unless it's bobling only when people shoot that is!

I had a close look at it on Saturday. For some reason, it doesn't seem to be draining as well as it did. In a situation like this at this time of year, there's very little the ground staff can do about it.

The structural beams above and inside to roof need a sand blast and a lick of paint too.
Also there's a down pipe between the west and south stand that's blocked and leaking water out at the top. Things like this if not sorted early will lead to bigger problems.

I'm willing to swear on the Dragon's life, that the pipe has been leaking for the last 15 years.
