The one titled "True facts about Shrewsbury" is a classic!
Here are 3 entirely true facts about Shrewsbury
1.In the 16th century Shrewsbury was the 3rd most populated settlement in Britain (behind London and York)
2. The River Severn (that runs through Shrewsbury) is made of treacle and inflatable chairs.
3. Shrewsbury is, if you look closely, actually a small fudge rendering of the Statue of Liberty's right nipple.

One fact that they probably missed was that we used to beat them a regular basis during the early eighties where we did the double on them twice. Not bad for a insignificant joke of a town/football club as they see us.

Strewth ! Whatever happened to geography lessons in London schools ?
How long before someone on there asks if they need a passport to go beyond Watford?
My personal favourite is this one:
79-80 we went in Shresbury's side early....was like a cattle shed. Suddenly a load of hairy Hells angels turned up , one swinging a bicycle chain around.
Come on, own up, who was it?

They can say what the flip they like.
At least our money is clean and RW isn’t associated with an authoritarian nationalist leader.

In the 81/82 and 82/83 seasons we beat them three times out of four games and in the latter season finished much higher than them in the league
Have a feeling that was about the time they nearly went bust and Ken Bates over. That season their average attendance was only 12,700 way behind Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle in the same division
Bernard McNally and Steve Cross scored in one of the wins - maybe get them back to do the half time draw and remind a few Chelsea fans they once played at our level. And got beaten regularly by us

They both scored in the 2-1 away win in 82/83. I went to that Chelsea went 1-0 up 15 mins to go and Bernard McNally equalised almost immediately with a 30 yarder into the top corner. Chelsea put us under loads of pressure until we broke on the counter and Steve Cross tucked the winner through the keepers legs at the death.... and one great mental followed.
I went to the the 4-2 win in 79/80 at Chelsea as well Dungworth got 2 and Atkins got the 4th but I cant remember who got our other goal?
Great memories!

No such ideas, swing in a cross and bundle it over the line, the Town faithful went mental. Was a 'warm' walk back along the Kings Road to the waiting coaches with a few Chelsea Neanderthals at 4.45
Sure it was a lot later than you say Fred in his Shed

I agree the winning goal was at the death but McNally equaliser I am sure was almost immediately after the Chelsea goal and I thought there was still at least 10 mins to go but it is over 30 years ago now...frightening thought!. Screamer from from Bernie. I remember us hanging on at 1-1 until the counter attack, and the cross for Crossy to tuck away in injury time!

Chelsea are dependent on an oil rich man. If he walks away, or gets arrested for any reason, (parking ticket perhaps ), they will be deep in the doo doo.
Give me liddle 'ol Shoosbury any time.

This is all fine. Leicester under estimated us at their peril and looking at some Norwich forums so did their manager. Carry on as far as I am concerned we have absolutely nothing to lose.

Micky droy saw him a few years back at end of season players dinner, still a beast! Every club has thick fans on forums who don't have a clue about football or don't look beyond 2005, forget about the numb nuts with the low iq's, they certainly won't be going to many games and certainly not to the meadow to support their club.

Why is there is a certain game from 1966 missing from the list?

I remember the first Chelsea match and we were in the 'Wing Terrace' next to the away end... I always used to sit on top of the bunker that was there in the corner as an 11 year old... A Chelsea fan shouted across to my Sister 'Is this your practice ground Love?' My sister replied...'Yes, our real one's too good for your lot..!'
We then beat them 3-0.... Happy Days....

I remember that but at the time I was only a kid and thought they were Chelsea fans. From the Wakeman the riverside looked like synchronized swimming as the crowd opened up and then charged back in.

Just been up in the loft and in the Town programme for the following weeks game v Charlton there was a report on the Chelsea game. Excerpts from it:
"in the 76th minute Wayne Williams muffed a back pass and Colin Lee nipped in to score....................and three minutes from time Bernard McNally let loose a cracking shot from 25 yard into the corner of the net............in injury time from a good pass by McNally, Gary Stevens raced down the right and with a lovely controlled pass, found Steve Cross who hammered in the winner from 20 yards"
Happy days of following the Town, more of the same in a few weeks would be good. After that game Town were 8th with 7 wins from 15 games with Chelsea 15th with 4 wins

Didn't McNally then miss a sitter in the FA Cup defeat? Was only young but I think speedie scored for Chelsea. I remember GM being rammed.

From the Wakeman the riverside looked like synchronized swimming as the crowd opened up and then charged back in. I was in a similar position to you and was also a kid. I remember bloody faced Chelsea fans being led around the side of the pitch to be arrested/chucked out. I couldn't understand why so many of them were wearing long green parkas. Quadrophenia hadn't come out at that point I don't think, so the Mod revival was unknown in Shrewsbury. Back then all the hard men of the Riverside were bikers based out of the Admiral Benbow. "CHELSEA TRIED, CHELSEA DIED, NO ONE TAKES THE RIVERSIDE..."

Mods were wearing Parkas in shrewsbury from late 1960's if not earlier, which may have been the original time round but Chelsea fans were either behind the times or they never really went away...Crombies replaced Parkas in approx 1970 (after being adopted by skin heads) but Parkas were always the preferred dress for "scooter mods" and still are with the current revival....

I think one or two on here are being a tad too sensitive. Entertaining read at times that. A few references to matches played between Town and Chelsea through the years. I get the impression that they are well aware of who we are. That they are well aware that that was their level not too long past. You get the feeling one or two miss them days.

As I said, the mod Revival of the late 70's where parkas were most definitely back in vogue

Another game v Chelsea that hasn't been mentioned as yet. Anyone remember a New Years Day (I think it was anyway) at GM where we had an extended half time due to a floodlight failure, and ended up playing all the 2nd half with just 2 (maybe 2 & 1/2) floodlight pylons working?

Not too patronising I see which is good. Had to laugh about the suggesting of resting Costa and Hazard against United in order to play us.

Not far out though got Chelsea goal right and Crossys winner just out with time of equaliser coming later seemed an eternity between our goals......it was a great day and trying not to look happy walking to Fulham Broadway in fear of being done over lol
