Once again I proceeded with care in order to minimise the risk of injury from brambles and nettles.

And all the time a fantastic, purpose made, wide, accessible exit remains locked up in case there is a fire, except for the fact the one time we had a real fire it still remained locked up. Utter nonsense, and quite frankly unacceptable that the club continues to ignore this most basic of supporter need.

I asked the question of a club official and was told the work is scheduled for next week. Martin, You did brilliant work trying to sort this out. If it's being done by someone else, fine, but I can't do it until Wednesday the 30th of July, due to my heavy work schedule. (It would be unpaid), as you know.
Still waiting to hear from the club if they want me to do it.

I thought the 'Super Blues Way' was a public right of way? If so then why is it left to a group of well meaning volunteers from the Super Blues to do it instead of the council?

Thanks Ow do. Chris sent me an e-mail on the 15th requesting me to do the work, but to speak to you first. I've tried ringing you without success, so Chris asked me to send him an e-mail which he would forward to you, so I'm not sure what's gone on there.
As the situation in SBW is obviously getting very serious, and there is now a game next Saturday at GM, I can change my schedule around and carry out the work on Saturday morning. I'll PM you my e-mail address and we'll get it sorted.

Not a public right of way but a permissive footpath per the council's website. That must mean that the public can use it subject to the owner's permission.

JT - are there any outgoings for the work, cost of weedkiller etc? JT doesn't use weedkiller he uses the "power of thought" to make the pesky weeds go away

It's not a permissive path. It's a public right of way. See this Ordnance Survey map for proof (green dotted lines denote public rights of way; if it were a 'permissive path' then it would be a black dotted line). binged.it/1qwDlLQ

Although he was Joe King, Minor was right on this occasion. I've been maintaining SBW on a free gratis basis since we moved grounds. With regards to weedkiller, no I don't use any on SBW. I had a long discussion about it with Ian Bebbington when he was at the club. The problem is, that the brambles and nettles for the most part, are coming through the fence from Network Rail property. Martin might have more information on this, but I don't think they any interest. So it's a bit like me living next door to you and spraying weedkiller over the fence into your garden without asking for permission. You might not be best pleased. Ian and I decided the best way forward, was to clear the path before the season starts, then have a tidy up in October. (I did the October clear up for years, but I don't think anyone noticed!). Last year after Ian left, the arrangement fell by the wayside, and I only did the one before the season started. There has been rapid growth this year, due to the climate conditions, so although I haven't seen it, I can imagine what It's like. If by chance the weeds are starting to get a hold on SBW side of the fence, I can WK them.
The only other cost is fuel. I have all the equipment necessary to do the job, but it doesn't run on air. I donate that, along with my time. It's just a matter of when I can squeeze it in.
Any road up, I haven't heard from Alan yet, so nothing will happen until that is sorted.

Well whatever you're out of pocket by the end of it the fanzine will chip in towards.
Or could we do an article about what you do for fans that is so unseen?
I personally think we should get several buckets of pathclear and unleash Hell on the growth. Anything coming through the hedge gets sprayed.

To my knowledge Network Rail have never shown an interest in maintaining their side of the fence which is where the problem arises. So that leaves the club and the Council as the only interested parties who could do something about the state of the path. The Super Blues have been great in the past with their contributions to the upgrading of the path. Voluntary contributions as outlined above have been excellent. I would have thought between them the club and Council could sort out a) dates for the weeds to be cleared and b) the small budget needed to achieve that maintenance. It is not rocket science

That might well be something to consider in October. When we get this cut and it's rotted away, we'll have a better idea of what's needed. The weeds and brambles might well have started growing on SBW itself. If they have, they're ours!
This sounds like a job for Superfanzine. Have you got some tight red underpants to wear over blue tights?

Thanks, Alan. Sorted.
Throb, if the fanzine want to help with this situation later in the year, we'll have a look at it. In the meantime, we must make a priority for Saturday.
Thinking about it, we can tell the Kilmarnock fans we've planted some thistles in honour of their visit, and we'll be very upset if they don't take Juan home with them.
Can we arrange some friendlies with clubs that have emblems of brambles, nettles and Japanese knotweed?
