TBH is administrator for "The Barnabus Centre" which is a religious hall 600 yards from the meadow, but has outside bookings etc etc. The photo shows him leaning on a rail, grinning, while some bloke is behind him doing nothing specific. Thats unkind , they have just made it flood friendly, and a damn good job you've made of it too Throb Looks a damn fine venue now. Throb can't say that on here as it will be advertising, but I can confirm its a Top notch venue , utalise it via all usual TBH links

I'll probably regret asking this, but its bugging me - who was Barnabas? Wasn't he the thief who got crucified next to Jesus but somehow got saved?
Its been a long time since Church Parade with the Harlow Boys Scouts - someone out there know the answer?

Barnabas was the Church leader who went with Paul at the beginning of Paul's missionary journey's
Barnabas ended up in Antioch in what is now modern day Turkey, and then onto other places
Barnabas means "son of encouragement"
The murderer who was released instead of Jesus was called "Barabus" and was not a very nice man

Thanks Throb - I knew my recollection about the crucifixion didn't sound quite right. Still always look on the bright side eh?

Throbs could probably tell you more- but this is as much as I know- Barabbus was the robber and murderer who was set free, because there was a custom at the time, that one prisoner, of the crowd's choosing, was set free- was it because it was the feast of the Passover? The "religious" leaders of the time stirred up the crowd to shout for Barabbus. So Jesus was crucified. Now I've looked up about Barnabus. All I knew about him was that he was kind and helped people. Barnabus means "son of encouragement". He was a Jewish Christian. He was generous and kind hearted. He sold land to give money to poor people. Throbs could tell you more- but I think the idea of the Barnabus Centre would be to carry on in the spirit of the original Barnabus and to offer help to the local community and people in need. This is where religion is different from real Christianity, I think. "Religion" equals dogma and rituals- and often it goes wrong because some of these "religious" leaders are not "real"- they rely on their position and on the dogma and rituals- whilst leading anything but good lives. Christians were meant to meet people at the point of need, and to help them. Now you'll regret asking , eh?!!!
