Decent showing second half, though?
A shred of hope to cling on to going into the Notts County game?

Decent showing second half, though? A shred of hope to cling on to going into the Notts County game? For me too little too late. The shackles would never have been released had it not been 2-0. Shambolic defending yet again, the goals are all horrific to concede. Thank god our fans there today have sense of humour, because that made the second half thoroughly enjoyable, along with us actually having a go. Think 3-1 flatters Vale but you can't put in 45 like we did and expect anything at this level

Umm first goal we gave them a free throw leading to a cross for the goal, in our left back position Second goal Jacobson flew in but reach was slow, this was in Vale's half so they broke and Jacobson kept backing off till it was too late Third goal Wroe missed a tackle at half way which allowed Vale to continue breaking when we'd thrown everyone up for a corner First half was littered with s**t from Winfield, Mkandawire and Goldson too

Load of s**t I'm afraid. Tow Derbys in two weeks and we've been hammered in both. Deeply dissapiomted and if another manager had lost like that he'd be up for that sack ....

Winfield was awful today but no-one covered themselves in glory. That said, the second half was great - Decent effort on the field and great support off it, best away support we've had this season.

The first goal was pathetic, we were outfoxed by a quick throw despite needing a new ball rolled all across the pitch Mkandadire and Woefield need some time out. Our midfield needs to grow some balls and make the excellent forward bursts they did in the second half more regularly, the goal only came about because Summerfield ran past the defence. The strikers did ok all things considering. Let's see how we get on in the next two home games but we need to improve even on that second half showing. It is quite easy to forget we won our last home game and have only been beaten once in the league at the GM this season, so let's go for six points

Would like to see the first goal again. Shocking defending, but to my untrained eyes it looked like their boy was a foot inside the pitch when he threw it in.

For me:
Mkandawire and Winfield don't work. I'd go with Jones and Goldson. Goldson is the best CB at the club, and keep dancing round the handbags trying to accommodate 'big' summer signings that aren't working.
Didn't get Woods being dropped today (injured?). By pushing Wildig wider right, the balance of the team was wrong.
Crossing was abizmal. Reach didn't get a decent cross in all game. Wildig just wanted to cut in, or had his back to goal.
Central midfield. Great day for Wroe and Summerfield to have an off day. Vale's midfield totally bossed the game.
McAklinden. Scuffed one, scored one. The miss was awful, the goal great finish. Gozie looked the part. Actually think he could work well with Bradshaw.
If you look at everything for long enough, you'll find fault. Absolutely. But it's the basics that are just not right, as individuals and as a team tactically.

In the second half the Wolves lad showed his potential though, his skill on the ball and his footwork is second to non, with better service he could be helping us win more games he just needs a bit more composure in front of goal. GT must have given them a hell of a roasting at half time to get such a game of two half's

Feel sorry for Darren Jones - had a solid start to the season and has been ousted by what must rank as the worst centre back pairing I've seen for a long long time. Mkandawire is ponderous, paceless and wins nothing in the air and is complimented by Winfield who has quite frankly been awful in the last 2 games. We had a solid foundation to work from earlier in the season and Turner needs to revert back to the formula that at least kept us competitive in games. Carry on with this pair and we'll continue to gift teams starts, something we can't afford to do when lacking a cutting edge up front.

Judging by his latest tweet, he's none too happy either. Judge for yourself.

I have heard Jones has a clause in his contract that entitles him to a new contract after x amount of appearances. This is either complete tosh, or he is close to this trigger ?

I was sat in home end closer to the opposite end from the away stand today. The Vale fans were decidedly nervous second half and critical of their midfield in particular. My observations of the game included a definite feeling of vulnerability at the back whenever Vale crossed the ball. McAlinden missed two sitters not one, before half-time from memory, but was our best player second half probably. The reason Jacobson didn't challenge Myrie Williams at first I thought was that he was expecting Tam to come and make a challenge because he was better placed to do so. Summerfield set up our goal to be fair and was outnumbered much of the time so I'm not sure he had an off day. Goldson is a better centre back than either of the 2 who played today IMO. Wildig is better centrally than he is out wide because we don't get the benefit of his passing ability. Nicky Wroe, at times looks superb, he hit one fab pass out to the left in the second half, but at other times he seems a little cumbersome. Overall, poor at the back, decent up front, but not deadly.

GT was always going to pair our current two. Jones has been 'judged' but hopefully he's still in our plans. If our manager is as fickle as our fans we are f#cked.

I came on here yesterday (as a Vale fan who attended the match with a blue and amber supporter). My take on the game was that you started slowly and allowed the game to get away from you by half time. The first goal was terrible marking from a throw in allowing the man to centre the ball too easily. Oddly, with three centre halves, you appeared vulnerable to every high ball into your box. I wondered if your lad was fouled on the edge of our box before M-Williams sprinted 60 yards, with no-one tackling him, and to be fair hit a terrific shot into the top corner. But he wasn't closed down. I'm unsure who had a golden chance just before half time when he ran through one on one with the keeper but he hit his shot two yards wide. Poor finish. He should have scored. But 2-0 was a fair reflection of the first half. The second half was even more open with oceans of space in midfield. The Shrewsbury team played much better and had a purple patch of 15-20 minutes when it seemed like they might equalise although there wasn't anything clear cut, more long shots and centres. But you passed the ball through midfield and out to the wings really well and I have expected an equaliser. That said, Port Vale missed two easy chances to score a third, as well as the final goal, so I suppose overall - after 90 minutes - we deserved it.
My take on your lads - Keeper and full backs ok. Two central defenders slow and strangely weak in the air. You were at sixes and sevens at the back but I guess that is partly because you haven't been able to play the same settled team. I was impressed with the young loan players. The black lad up front should do well for you. And McAlinden , is it, I thought played very well - some great surging runs from midfield. You know that Wroe is decent anyway.
The problem with young lads is that they can be inconsistent and you need patience. Your lot played some really nice football in the second half but probably need to be stronger at the back and perhaps could do with a midfield enforcer.
Good luck for the rest of the season. Keep the faith!

The alleged defending was a shambolic disaster. A free throw in, a free cross and three unmarked attackers at the back post. The only chance they'd have missed, is if they'd knocked each other out of the way. In fact, we had an action replay when the same player headed straight at Weale from the six yard box.
The second, the defenders ran away from Williams faster than women used to run away from me in nightclubs.
Then to top it all, when I got home, our rescue greyhound, seeing me with a hangdog look on my face, decided to cheer me up, by charging at me, catching me with a vicious blow in the testicles with her front paw. It was the most emotion I'd shown all day.
I'm not sure which was most painful, the defending or the goolies...........thinking about it, perhaps the Walsall attackers were very clever.....

I still think it's far too early to judge Winfield and Tam - just look at how much criticism Jones was getting until about January last year - but I do think they need to be dropped for now. Both have valid reasons which could easily explain their poor form, so I'm not writing them off, but a team should be picked on form over reputation.

Would like to see the first goal again. Shocking defending, but to my untrained eyes it looked like their boy was a foot inside the pitch when he threw it in. It amounted to nothing, but similar happened in the second half in front of me, in the corner along the main stand furthest from our fans (I was in the disabled spots amongst the home fans. Lovely experience).

Summerfield played some cracking passes to McAllinden from highlights. Poor defending for 2nd goal
