As a Barnet fan I can accept we were beaten fair and square as it was it was our goalkeeper Gore who kept us in contention, without which you wouldn't have needed a penalty shoot-out.
Altogether the outcome and the manner of it was not altogether surprising, as we finished one place and just three points below, with a win apiece (like in the two play-offs legs), so we can't have too many complaints.
What I cannot accept is the fact that Hereford finished so far ahead of the other teams in virtually all respects (points, goal scored, head-to heads) but still gets denied a place in the final by a team that haven't won since last March.
I hope for the sake of justice you do the Shots in the final, going back to the league in one attempt would be a tremendous achievement and over the context of the season (not just 210 minutes of football) the Shots don't deserve to have the chance in the first place.
Good luck!

Gore is top draw.
(bit like "Osgood is good", that)

I totally disagree.
If you'd asked Hereford, or any other club in the division this season what format the league should accept for the two promotion places do you think any would have argued with the current one?

the rules were in place before the season started
the play off are there to ensure several teams season is extended
how dull was it when only 1 team went up if someone ran away with the league it was all done and dusted for a few teams by xmas

personally i would like to see 3 teams go up from the Conference to automatic and 1 playoff
It would make easier to get out of the league and perhaps div 3 sides would no live in such dread of the drop.

It would mean they would have to find the cash for another parachute and promotion payment too.

Undoubtadly the Conference would become more competitive, as it has done with 2 up 2 down in recent seasons, with a third promotion spot.

to be honest
the conf should simply be re named division 4
with 4 up (1 via play offs)
time after time the team going up has proved to be better the the average div 3 side

Do you think it was fair that dodgy sixth placed Doncaster won the play offs last year? I mean obviously they didn't deserve it as they have limped to the third division title
and look at what harm it did to Chester who will never recover from losing to Doncaster in the play offs last year?
If you run your club well, cut the cloth sensibly, have some good young players and some wise old heads and play to your strengths eventually it will work out, look at leicester, they took 4 years to go up the premiership the first time, but they got there, and so will hereford, and so will anyone else who works hard, builds their club from the grass roots up and has a foundation on which they can build

Leigh finished 5th three seasons ago, despite having very little money and having to survive on three figures gates inferior to most teams in the feeder leagues (never mind the Conference) and look where they are now.
Are you suggesting that clubs that size should have the chance to go up into a league where they would be ill-equipped football-wise and financially?

Glad to have you back onside Simon, thought you were going off us after your 'Shrewsbury fans are arrogant' posts on the Hereford board.

but if they are ill equipped and financially unsound then they will come back down again, simple as that, unless there are other clubs in the league run worse than them
I think people talk about "deserving" to go up and whether teams "should" have won but at the end of it all you always have next year and if you work hard and build right you always have a chance, as Aldershot have proved this year

Leigh tho' from all accounts have been run well financially and with the new ground proposals seem reasonably finacially secure.

Do you think it was fair that dodgy sixth placed Doncaster won the play offs last year? Not meaning to be pedantic but actually they finished 3rd, below Morecambe on goal difference during a season that runaway leaders Yeovil romped to the title in a very one-sided championship race. And that season, there were only 6 points separating the sides below in the play-offs so I doubt that there would have been so many Morecambe fans complaining to the extent that Hereford have.

2 up automatically and 1 up from the playoffs would still leave the same arguement. if we finished 3rd by a clear 20 points then lost in the playoffs we would be gutted.
BUT, hereford new at the start of the season what needs to be done. it is their own fault, not the systems.

About Leigh going into the league - it would have been fantastic if they did.
Look at football through the years. What about the likes of Swindon making it into the premier league? A team shouldn't be placed in a league because of their fanbase

Well i'm not complaining about the play off system. What i think is appalling is that very high profile games should be controlled by incompetent officials.

Watching the highlights I would say incompetent Hereford strikers Tretts performed something seen on a Rugby field.

Believe me, they were incompetent!!! No idea what any highlights may have shown, Trettons foul was no worse than numerous similar fouls from them which went unpunished. Did they show the 3 hand balls in the penalty area? ( I'll admit in the first leg they should have had a 2nd penalty for hand ball, but that one was nowhere near as blatant as the ones not given yesterday)

I can understand Hereford fans thinking that it's mad world, but their team lost at home to Leigh, Woking and FGR - that's to blame for them not going up, not the play-off system.
At the start of the season everyone knew that one team would be promoted automatically, any position other than first was a failure.
The 4 teams who had failed the least were then entered in a new mini cup competition, so far so good for us.
No one should be suprised about some shocks in the knock-out stage - hope I'm not tempting fate!
