Guys, After a long time without this subject coming up I have some questions I could do with a bit of feedback from the fan base on. Its possible the fanzine (and anyone else that wishes with help)) might have a go at trying to get a statue project off the ground. The way we could do this is under wraps for now (would be a lot of different ways to be honest) but before I start asking questions of the club, artists, company.... an idea of what fans want So little Q and A time 1) If a statue could be provided at the stadium who would you want it of? Allways assumed Rowley, but intrested to here if others have a different view? 2) if a statue could be provided at the stadium where would you envisage seeing it? 3) if a statue could be provided, as a fan would you be willing to support the fund raising? And if so by how much (costs could be between 10-50k on first looks) 4) If the idea could be brought forward would you expect the club to fund, all, some or none of it - if relevant a figure would be interesting? 5) If the costs of a full size statue are prohibitive, what are your thoughts on a range of Bronze Busts of former hero's being installed One of Pele as an example? www.insidethegames.biz/sports/summer/football/16397-football-hero-pele-honoured-with-bust-at-united-states-sports-academy6) Would you be interested in becoming part of a team to bring the project forward in the next few years? 7) If you have any other comments on a project like this, were all ears. If you have the time to give us a little feedback on these issues it would be great. Personally, I feel like just saying its going to cost to much is a lame excuse, and if we can get some headway into this is might prove to be a little more straight forward that we think, if the club are approachable to the idea.... that would be the next stage, speaking with the club but before we do some fan "focus group" feedback would be useful!

I really dont see the point just at the moment, would it not be an idea to ask if people actually want one first ?
The only person worthy of a statue is Arthur Rowley and it's well known that his family dont want a fuss like that.
Once GT is finished, it would be nice to see one of him though.
I wouldn't be prepared to put anything toward it as the trust already has the concourse project to get done . If anything i would rather see plans for a new fundraiser put off until the concourse was finished as the fans pockets are only a finite resource.
I would rather see a statue planned after the concourse and possibly fund raising to paint the grey areas of the concourse blue amber and white.

I like the idea of a range of busts of previously players, those who had particular flair or provided particular contributions to our history. Rowley obviously speaks to mind, but maybe Mickey Brown for his great escape exploits, Joe Hart as a famous former STFC man etc...
Anything that makes the ground a little more inviting and original is a plus point in my mind.
I don't expect the club to contribute, but it would be an excellent incentive to fans if they offered some sort of 'matching' - as a lot of companies do with employees who raise money for charity. Say they give £1 for every £2/3/4 raised by the fans.

You should have read the whole post, the trust are already engaged in a project to get the concourse done, so i dont see the point at the moment. But if it were planned for a year or 2 down the line then the concourse should be finished and then the trust could get involved in something like this. It's all very well planning things like this but i think it would take 2 or 3 supporters groups working together. Would you like to contribute toward a print in the concourse?

Almightybob makes a fair point that it might take more than just the fanzine (considering there are only three of us ATM) to get this going... but the fanzine contributed to the concourse projects, as did B and A collectively (and I did) if you recall... and I'm not sure what's left to finish... the West stand looks fairly complete, but not sure about the rest of the ground.
Anyway, no wrong views at this stage...

Anyway, no wrong views at this stage... Yes you did and we're extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed, it was mentioned on the trust programme half page at the time. the west stand is covered but we have a few to finish the south stand and have the whole of the Wycherley stand to do so it is probably half done with not all the images having been sponsored, which means we have had to use trust funds to put them up. I'm sure the trust would support something like this at the right time, but a statue is a big ask, particularly when one supporters group is already doing something as we all have to draw funds from the same pot. That said, I'm not really speaking for the trust as this is my profile and one of us cannot act on something like this without the board voting on it as we are a democratic organisation.

Interesting Bob, and certainly something I'm looking to raise with the Trust, club and other supporters groups if we take it forward..
Never a bad time for an Idea in my view though, and can understand your thoughts on the matter, but while the trust are raising money for the concourses, so are the Superblues for whatever the next scheme is, and OSC... Im not sure they have been asked to stop asking the fans for money to help the trust get there scheme done, so im not 100% in agreement with you that another group coming forward with an idea should...
Anyway, if this thing trundles on we might all be invested in it and see that is might actually work?
Cheers for the feedback

The trust is already engaged in raising funds for a project so we would be unlikely (IMO) to put our group behind this because committing to a second project with one already underway is not a good idea. Superblues basically donate to whatever the club asks for and fund their projects differently to us, they have a draw etc dont know what the OSC current project is, but again they collect their money in a different way by selling glasses and memberships. I dont know whether either group would work on a statue project, maybe they would. do they comment on here in any way?

Im sure we will find out as things go forward, but personally if the idea got off the ground, had buy in from the club, and was achievable... I think it could be done... there are PLENTY of of people who don't hang there hat on one of the main supporters groups who would be interested in helping I guess... and I doubt that if it was ploughing ahead with 5k raised that others in other groups would not want to get on board and be part of something unique and special.
We shall see where we go... and what can or cant be done.. But I know a fair few people in the trust and who are a big part of running it i'm sure would be behind this kind of a fan led idea.
Also for the record, some of the ideas that there are for raising funds involves people and businesses who are not even STFC fans...

This sounds a good reason not to get the TRUST involved!
Joe Hart will end up the most successful STFC player ever (possibly already is) but a little young to reward with a statue yet... The bust idea is a good one although NOT if they end up in the Foyer or any other part of the RW stand for the enjoyment of the privileged few.....

Nothing to do with democracy but raising money for a statue involving a number of supporters groups all having to convene their boards to 'vote' on every decision doesn't sound much fun .... we're supposed to be football supporters ...more the corporate statement we've come to expect from the club... but no offense meant to those doing a sterling job, but my personal opinion is that groups should concentrate on increasing their support and build a voice through increased membership to represent the majority of fans opinions rather than the few ....

The busts look good but then again I like what Arsenal have done at the Emirates with the players shirts around the outside of the Stadium. I think something similar could be done at our ground. They can get decent graphics printed out on a all weather canvas type sheeting like of the Salop leasure stand, vodka scource on the West Stand and more recently pro vision cctv on the North Stand. We could in theory get giant cut outs put on the outside of our stadium of former players starting with Arthur Rowley, Graham Turner, Fred Davies, Mickey Brown, Wayne Clarke, Jake King, Paul Miguire, Peter Dolby, Nigel Jemson, Frank Clarke, Steve Biggins, Tony Kelly, Tommy Lynch, Dean Spink etc we could have several on a a canvas at one time or as individuals. Another way would be to have a team photo of championship winners printed on a canvas of which we only have 2, 3 if you count the play off final win.

GT and MJ were in conversation on the training ground. GT 'Mike, the lads are lacking in confidence so i've got a great idea'. MJ 'What's that Graham?' GT 'Get some statues of notable players like Rooney, Gerrard, Van Persie etc and place them in their appropriate positions on the field. Get the lads to dribble and pass around them like they were real!
MJ 'OK Graham, will do, but what are you going to do?'
GT 'Just popping into town for a few bits and bobs, I'll ring you later for a progress report'.
An hour later GT rings MJ for an update...
GT 'Mike, how are things going?'
MJ 'Not too good i'm afraid Graham, it's half time and we're losing 3-0!'

Great idea, and a shame that an individual is hijacking the thread picking an argument in their usual manner. Anyway: 1) Arthur Rowley or Graham Turner appear to be most appropriate choices. 2) Very close to the reception area 3) and 4) Yes, I would put a small amount towards it - would be great if the club could offer match funding 5) Not sure if there is an area of the outside part of the ground suitable for something as small as this 6) Nope - I'm a sayer not a doer at present :-) No other comments other than I think it's great for us to be trying as many different things as possible to link the current club to its past and to really make the Greenhous feel like a home for all supporters of the club.

The coracle man, a nod to our past Cracking idea! I agree, an excellent shout - always thought if we were going to have to change badge it could be incorporated into that as well somehow (but that's for another well worn debate!) location wise - how about on the raised grass area on the left hand side of the slip road up to the main gates. That way it could also be seen every time you drive down Oteley road

To answer the original questions as well:
If not the coracle man - I would love to see 'The holy trinity' built in front of the main stand entrance (around where Roland parks his Roller) It would consist of Rowley (club legend), GT (greatest manager) & Alf Wood (largely accepted to the best player the club has ever had).
If we are going to do it let's do it properly, so statue/s rather than busts.
Yes, willing to contribute (even on regular basis if necessary - e.g. £10/mth) & would be interested in joining any project team.
I do think the club should contribute in some way e.g. matching or topping up if the fund reaches a certain point.
Maybe sponsorship can also help - someone like Salop leisure would be an interesting proposition to get on board if possible, both from an additional funding perspective & personal experience, given the dragon & (currently) eagle they have had in the entrance to their atcham site.

If the statue had a realistic chance of being built. Some type of poll would have to be posted on here. If it was my choice it would have to be Arthur Rowley
By the way what the hell has happened to the Rowley flag?

I really can't believe this topic. The team is struggling and all some people seem interested in is sticking a b***dy statue outside the ground. I'm sure the past golden greats of this club would prefer to see a winning team.
