A very interesting article, Phil- very well written. First of many, I hope. It's always interesting to read the recollections of supporters who were around in the "glory days." I think, though- that when you say "lower league" - you don't really mean the Conference do you? Division 3 would still be friendly- it's low enough!

Phil, i guess we must have started going to the football at around the same time, your article brought back some good memories. This season has been a real rejuvination for me, i don't know if it's because i felt the need to rally closer to the cause because of our non league predicament or not, all i know is thta i've really got that bug again that makes me happy to be a Town fan.
Really good effort

Thanks Jamo. Was the late 60's when I started going, but not on my own (without parent or neighbour) untill early 70's, I think. I may even know you!

Good article - got me thinking about the first time we played Chelsea and all through the game there were "cells" of Chelsea fans on the Riverside starting fights. I enjoyed winning, but not wondering if the guy next to you was suddenly going to break your nose as he screamed Chelsea.
Late 70s early 80s certainly had a different atmosphere at games - one I don't miss at all.

That Chelsea game all I can remember is the crowd on the riverside. There was a group of 10-15 Chelsea fans below the buffet, then all of a sudden there was this gap all around them, then a roar, then a brawl. After that for years the song was "Chelsea tried Chelsea died etc etc...thank god those days are past us, well nearly. BTW Good Article Phil
