Trouble is as much as I loved and still love their music, The Stone Roses were known to be really not that good live so it could all end up being a well hyped up and then an anti-climax, my mate saw them at Reading in 96' and they were just s**te, no wonder they disbanded If they release some new material then fair enough but if not then Mani should strick with the Primals (now theirs a great live band), Brown with his solo career (which he has wrote some superb tracks in the past imo) and John to his Art What was so good about Rage Against the Machine when they played that one-off Xmas No. 1 gig in Hyde park and came out of the wilderness in 2009 was that they were always renowned for their live shows and got a new generation into their back catalogue, I dont think the Roses performances would do that.

For many, many years I was told that Ian Brown couldnt sing and his live shows were poor. Every year I went to V he was there and on that advice I never bothered to go and see him. One year I went to watch him and he gave a brilliant performance in one of the best atmospheres Ive experienced at a gig, albiet helped by a combination of a very laddy/football crowd, a number of Roses tracks being sung and being in the dance tent. Your right though that there is a danger that it becomes a massive anti-climax.

Wonder if they will return to Shrewsbury as part of the tour, having last played here in 1989?
Massive fan of the Manchester music of the late 80s early 90s but do fear the comeback will be a bit of an anti climax. Possibly better to remember those days than recreate them as a 40 something!

Your right though that there is a danger that it becomes a massive anti-climax. The Roses were sans John Squire and Reni at the time of the disastrous Reading '96 headline slot. I like the Roses, but to my tastes their debut is a tad overrated. Weirdly, I quite like a lot of the songs on the much derided Second Coming, though. Like all the best bands though, they undeniably have a special chemistry that means when they put their talents together they become greater than the sum of their parts. Will be interested to hear what they come up with next, but not such a big fan I'm willing to pay silly money to see them live.

It was a massive event at the time, but I have a bootleg of the gig and it wasn't quite as good as I remember.

I went with a few friends - first gig I ever went to.
Originally planned for the fridge they moved it into Park Lane due to numbers. The sound was terrible but I didnt care. I have a copy of it knocking around somewhere.
Also saw them at Spike Island - again ropey sound and in Cambridge on the second coming tour. Needless to say I shall be trying on Friday morning.
Can't wait for the new material

Apart from the really important stuff like family etc. this is pretty much the best news I can recall.
Like the opposite of hearing that someone you love died.

Would be great to see them live.
Maybe an anti-climax for some but those like me who really like the band will not let a few dud notes or technical hitches spoil what would be a fantastic experience.
I just hope they rehearse enough pre-gig to make the experience even better.

4 tickets sorted within 5 minutes. For the Friday, which is what I was after.
Now to decide whether to flog two of them on Ebay. One just shifted for £360.

Just being flippant. No way are these on Ebay. All being used now by huge fans.
I listened to their live in Tokyo bootleg on the way into work and some 1995 bootlegs on the way home.
Get off your high horse.

Still not sure about this. Some things are best left. Then was then, now is now. I didn't get to see them first time around (saw the Mondays, Charlatans, Carpets and a fair few more back then) and was always gutted I didn't get to see them. But despite being a fan, this doesn't appeal as yet...
Am I the only one thinking like this?

Wonder if the Manchester shows go well if they might do some festivals later in the summer? If they make it through to 2012 a Glastonbury appearance would go down well

My mate's got us tickets for the Sunday after a huge panic this morning.
Looking forward to the support act announcements.
I saw Oasis at Heaton Park a couple of years ago and it was terrible - hope they sort out their stupid wristband problem this time around.

Weirdly, I quite like a lot of the songs on the much derided Second Coming, though. Ten Storey Love Song and Driving South are my two fave Roses songs , dont see the big fuss about all this, from recordings i got there not the best band live by a long shot, good novelty thing i suppose

Ben's got 2 tickets for the sunday concert - can't persuade him to cash in though by moving them on, as long as he doesn't ask me for a lift, he can drive himself & find his own bloody way
