nothing to do with his age. look at goldson, he appears more experienced than grandison and doesnt tend to haul a player down in the box every few games. although its his first mistake for a few games, the amount of penalties he gives away is bordering on the embarassing. But Goldson has made mistakes and GT has mentioned them - On a seperate note how many pens has SCS given away or any other STFC player in the last 12 months?

Not happy with this. A lot of work to be done, and possibly GT should have a think about dropping Smith. Nothing like a knee jerk. Not sure that there is a lot of work to be done. Poor performance tonight but we've seen more than enough this season to suggest that we'll be firmly challenging again. Smith may have been at fault for the 2nd goal but do we swap keepers each time someone makes an error? Just a few weeks a go he was being hailed as being one of the best young keepers in the league. Hate fickle fans. This isn't the first time he's made a mistake this season.

Strikers sometimes miss goal opportunities... Defenders sometimes tackle poorly giving away pens... Midfielders sometimes don't break up play effectively... Keepers sometimes make the wrong decision in the split second they have to make it...
We are in league 2... Unfortunately it's going to happen, but remember 4 hours ago we were top of the league, we can't be that bad!
Fickle fans aren't real fans, real fans support through good and bad games, encourage our players rather than knock them down! Let's look onto next week... My prediction 3 points!

Hi Salopians.
I will try to write this as unbiasedly as possible, although I will admit to have heard Roots Hall tonight have the best atmosphere in ages, I'm sat here very happy.
How I saw there game. First half I felt we were the only team in it. I haven't seen us dominate a game like that for a while. Dickinson for us missed one glorious chance from a keeper fumble (one of many) & at half time 2, maybe 3 up wouldn't have flattered us. The penalty was an easy decision for a ref who is usually so inept whenever we have him here, that even he couldn't fail to give it.
The second half, your guys came out like Turner had ripped into them. We were hanging on a bit although most efforts were from distance & never stretched us in the danger areas. We got back into the game & it was quite even for quite a while & you had your best chance when you hit the underside of the bar.
Southend brought on two of our normal starting players off of the bench & Ryan Hall caused problems for a few tiring players & created two goals at the end.
Summary: If Southend had scored three goals over the course of the game, then I would have said fair result. Two in the last few minutes seemed harsh, however deserved the result turned out.
Discussion points: Penalties. Not an issue for me, even if the second one was 60 yards away, it looked clear cut. There seemed to be a good shout for a penalty late in the 2nd half. The first was VERY clumsy. The second was due to too much pace & a knackered player.
From your point of view, would be worried about your keeper, who was woeful. The Dracula joke was made for him. I fancied us to get something from every cross that was put in. I believe Wright is one of your better players & yet he was starved of the ball for long periods.
Any positives for you guys? Not many, but Southend have been dire all season & tonight other than maybe trouncing Rotherham last week is the best I've seen us play in a VERY long time. We didn't play as much hoofball as normal, which caught you out a bit.
I hope this didn't come over as being too biased, because it wasn't meant.
Good luck for the rest of the season & hope you join us in Div 1 next season & will hopefully see a few of you in The Brooklands for a beer in January.
All the best,
Richard

Lovely piece of skill from Grando in the second half, seemingly in the process of losing the ball just outside the area (he was the furthest man back) whilst also stumbling and with two southend players on him Grand procedes to look the a chance to hoof it, failing to find the space he performs a couple of turns and a drag back to bring the ball out of the clutches of two Southend players and pass the ball to safety. Class.
At least we tried to play football, although in danger of attempting to pass it into the net. But alas the better side on the day won.

it was a reality check. we was playing one of the better teams in the league AWAY cant exspect to get anything from this. its great that we have an easier game with barnet to bounce back. 3 points off top at most im not worried and this result will just keep the players feet on the ground also. we dont have a midweek game next week so will allow the team to recover

We could fall to 7th tomorrow. Thats impossible. Gillingham (6th) and Wimbledon (7th) are playing each other. Likely to fall a place or two though. Got a few tricky away games coming up always going to be tricky, think yesterday was just a bad day at the office so to speak.
