Last one from me Whits
Something that people commented on this week.. The Watford Website annoucnes that out Youth Team Coach has left for Watford, while (and I may be wrong) STFC'd website has nothing about it... no thanks for the hard work ect..
That raises two issues
1) What are behind them in terms of news distribution on the net 2) It leads to all sorts of fan speculation - Ie no thanks because the town were not happy with the matter of his depature for some reason... thats been the case with a lot of people who have moved on from the club over the years (in management roles specifically)
I may be wrong, but its symptamatic of an issue that crops up a few times ever few years...

Link------> LinkStuff like this doesn't help - I know there are lots of pages on the website but things should be updated as and when - Dave Hughes still listed as Head of Youth. Clicking on the Team>Team homepage and it's last year's photo and kit. This is something which should have been amended a long time ago - the download is available and on the site so it could have been updated? I also wonder about related articles and their use. A link to 'Chester Tickets' for example is worthless - should articles like this be removed from the website to de-clutter it?

I regularly visit the website and am happy with the layout. I generally enjoy the match previews especially the score predictions ;D. By biggest problem is that it is probably one of the slowest websites I visit, I thought it might be my computer but it is no different if I access it from work. Maybe there is too much old stuff slowing things up, I dunno, computers, they're beyond me

It would be nice if the shrewsplayer commentary would work on a smartphone, although that would likely be a platform issue.

If Ian Bebbington mends any more of our stadium's 'latent defects' with gaffer tape, please can this be filmed and featured on the site.
I'm sure this would be most instructive.

After a few of the very negative comments lately I'm interested to see what people's thoughts are on the club's internet output? I think with issues like this you will never please all the keyboard warriors. Take note of the constructive and ignore the rest. as long as you advertise when the ticket office is open I am happy

I must confess I hardly ever visit the club website mainly because it's not as informative/up to date as I'd like. In what way? This is the bit I'm finding hard to understand. Lewis Neal and David Davies are in the profiles.(as mentioned before) The history page ends with us getting relegated to the conference. The womens page links to a defunct website. David Hughes is listed as Head of Youth. The Loyalty points page mentions the forthcoming Burton game. The club shop still advise that more shirts are expected 20th August. The Gay Meadow article ends with "now it is up to Gary Peters..." There is no mention of Southend on the away travel page, just arrangements for the Arsenal match Little niggly things like these stop a good site being a very good site. P.S. you said that you are interested in people's thoughts, so you shouldn't feel the need to be so negative when we respond to your request.

The layout is set as we are part of the Fli deal which brings in many thousands per year. They are making the layout more flexible in the next release. Is this a set figure or does the club benefit from more visits?

Ian, any chance that the player will cater for mobile devices (iphone/ipad especially) in the (near) future?

The whole website in general. The User Experience.- The site always redirect the to "Splash page". Content first is always better.
- Trying to access the player, I always have to go through "The Shrews Player" advert, before getting to the content. As I pay money I don't appreciate being forced to see the adds all the time.
- Too many adds.
- Un-accessible data from mobile devices (flash!). I really want to listen to live games from my iphone.
- Extremely slow. Too many images to make up the UI as well as all the adds. CSS and HTMl5 is the way forward. "Progressive Enhancement".
- Clicking a link to an article on the site from an external website in a smartphone will redirect you to the home page.
Video Content.- Post match commentary on the video. I would love to have the live commentary to go with the video.
- Extended highlights would be great.
- The whole match after the game would be brilliant. I would pay more for these services.
- i bought a day pass on the arsenal player and thought it was amazing content and value
- In the Interviews don't lead every question with " I suppose...."
Good point.Shrews web is better than a lot of other websites on the same franchise. Ian puts up a lot of video content up. Some websites don't even have pre-match audio interviews let alone video. so bravo there. These are mostly the problems of the company who market the website.

The layout is set as we are part of the Fli deal which brings in many thousands per year. They are making the layout more flexible in the next release. Is this a set figure or does the club benefit from more visits? It's not set in stone but made up of several variables each quarter, player, betting etc, visits are one as are registered viewers and return visits. The results put us somewhere in mid table out of the 90 or so clubs who are part of the Fli deal, which isn't too bad for one person helped by a number of lovely volunteers.

I do agree with the people that say Twitter should be used more....especially on matchday, El Huracan's matchday updates (@b_and_A_Fanzine) are class and really help get a feel for the flow of the game (I normally only follow matchday on BBC/Sky Sports App).
I like the full Managers commets on a Saturday after the game that is a real plus point for me.....I have to admit though it tends to be all I use the site for.
The Arsenal site post match was excellent - The full match for £1.50 is a cracking idea (even better if I could download it at work on a Monday for £1.50!!!)

I must confess I hardly ever visit the club website mainly because it's not as informative/up to date as I'd like. In what way? This is the bit I'm finding hard to understand. The problem that the club finds itself in (or any offical website/publication) is that people hear rumours and alot of stories which appear on the official website have been circulating on messageboards and the general rumour mill for sometime beforehand. I must admit that I very rarely use the official site because its just that, official. If I want to hear any rumours/opinions I will come on here because of the various stories you will see. Of course some of them will turn out to be rubbish but it will be more interesting than hearing a players/managers thoughts on an upcoming game. That isnt a dig at the website or the club, its just that players and managers will say the standard official things and its no doubt the same for most clubs I get the impression that fans would like te website to be more like a messageboard with various stories/updates from the club, however I know that isnt really realistic. For a start Im guessing there isnt that many stories/updates from the club The biggest frustration I have is the lack of information when people leave the club, however that isnt unique to the website.

The Dave Hughes story is in the inside the back page of the Chronicle, yet still nothing on Shrewsweb about it.
When someone as highly rated and well liked as DH was, it is a bit of an insult to him that nothing appears from the Club on his departure and his new role.
Then again par for the course for many backroom staff who leave the Club.

Thats my point Gal
Whats the assumption from Fans...
Daves moved on and we wish him the best as hes made a step up
or
The club and Dave have had a falling out over something and hes moved on
Frankley its probs the former, but the lack of clarity leads to the sort of rumors the chairman hates.
I was there when we had a reps meeting about DH joing the clun, its was done with some vigour... it was the future, he was certinly being lined up at that point to move up in the structure of the club is all went well.. I really wonder what went on if anything..
I will be tapping him up down the line for a fanzine interview for sure...

I think it's quite tough to run a club website since Twitter, Facebook etc meant information is so readily available
Understandably a club only wants to put information out once it's been checked and verified, and presumably approved by staff at the club. Where transfers are concerned they obviously only want to put signings up when they are 100% agreed
However with new social media giving people instant access to news, gossip, stories and live updates from matches the club sites can be left looking a bit dated.
By the time a match report is up fans have already read up on the game on twitter and discussing it on message boards. Then there is the whole issue of players using twitter to get their views across too, so club sites are no longer the place to go to get news about your club.
Think finding a way to use things like twitter and feeds to push out info to fans is the way to go, rather than rely on fans visiting a website

Thanks for all the feedback, will get on with updating the bits once I've got the Legends footage out of that way.
Good points about FB/Twitter, we do use them but probably need to put a bit more effort into it.
The apps for Iphone and Andriod are actually really good now, gets the content from the website and player and puts it through your phone.
Matchday Twitter, we use CoverItLive which offers alittle more, full PA feed, fans online, this is also available as an app so is quite portable.
Commentary via Iphone is something being looked into but prob not this season by the looks of it.

just to add doubt if its possible but in addition to the bar showing replays of games i would subscribe to shrewsworld if they showed the whole game a day or 2 later

I don't use the website extensively but subscribed to Shrewsplayer about a year ago, which I have generally found to be an excellent service. My only slight gripe is when Radio Shropshire and Shewsplayer both ask questions in GT interviews which are the same/similar. Not sure if the interviewers talk to each other beforehand about what they are going to ask.

1 - There will always be the odd spelling mistake with any publication, look at the BBC, Shrop Star, Guardian etc. We try to check everything and correct it. The Legends was corrected, it was interesting how it only got pointed out on the 8th one though. 2 - I don't do the preview - I've always tried to get other writers involved since about 1994 to get a varied content. 3 - I will advertise things when the different departments send them through, the reruns have been advertised on the web, emailouts, facebook group, twitter etc. 1. Doesn't mean they should be tolerated, I am positive that there are people out there who would volunteer to proof read something which is to be published - it makes the Club look more professional and would hopefully take the heat of a small numer of individuals. 2. How is this advertised - as in the above post I do think there are a lot of people out there willing to help out make things better, ok not everyone will be of use but there will be others who are. We all have a common goal and as such want to improve anything we think is not quite right, I'm more than happy to help with proof reading. 1. If pointing outspeling errors and making comments about proof reading make sure your mail is 100% correct - "it makes the Club look more professional and would hopefully take the heat of a small numer of individuals"As a whole the website is ok and online interviews etc good - Info could be more up to date and clubshop website needs complete revamp
