Well done on beating Vale, can you make it a regular event now please?

I was really impressed with Hazell today, had heard some less than amazing things about him off Oldham fans but he was excellent. Morgan was pretty much unplayable at times, and I was impressed with how Goldson grew into the game second half, even if he looked sketchy when he came on. All in all, great performance, made having to hang around on Stoke station for two hours waiting for my train back to London worthwhile.

Smith does not need to be dropped.
He just needs to be told to keep his head.

Brilliant day out. The last 10 minutes were more scary than they needed to be - but that is how Town always do things. I heard two Vale fans talking outside the ground on the way back to the car, and both were agreeing that the best team won. Nice to meet Hoover and Windsor and to see Downie again. For what it's worth I agree 100% with Hoover's assessment of our keeper. He is a good shot stopper but needs to improve other facets of his game. Fair play to him though, for showing the bottle to put his mistake behind him in the second half. He's no good at coming claiming crosses then?

He proved in the 2nd half yesterday, that WHEN he comes for crosses, his handling is good. The problem he seems to have in that respect, is when to come, as he is often rooted to his line, when a cross is hung into the 6 yard box. The general rule though, is that if you are not sure of winning the ball, you are better staying on your line. The other area of doubt is that he often elects to punch a ball that he could catch, as he did yesterday in the first half. That one could have been down to his head having dropped after the goal that he had just conceded. Please do not think that I am knocking the lad, I just see areas that he can improve. That said, if he ironed out all his weaknesses, he would soon be moving up the leagues.

As a keeper, once the raw talent is there (which it undoubtedly is with Smith) the two main aspects that determines a keeper's game imo are, position and decision making. For me Smith's positional sense is excellent, which enables him to continually pull off top drawer saves. It's his decision making that I would be inclined to work on improving. As Exkeeper says though, if he was fault free, he would no doubt be playing at a higher level. Personally, I would rather stick with Smith as my number 1, as I feel Neal is some way short in comparison!

Fsir enough, you deserved it yesterday. Shame we couldnt put the same side that beat Bradford out, and also your mate Marc Richards was suspended, so thats a goal taken off us before we started . Impressed with your wingers, but anybody looks fast against our useless full backs. Bit dissapointed with your support, only 500 odd, no doubt the Arsenal game effected that though. Oh well. See you in Feb. x
