good lord i really do give up... the players dont owe the club contractually, i mean morally.. and paying the players isnt the most important thing as the club can always find youth players, or even people willing to play for free, but tax needs to be payed in order to survive as a b usiness.. 9 months isn't moral enough for you ?? And I think the Tax is 40% so what about the other 60%, and try telling the tax-man they come 1st in football matters, look at Portsmouth and several others who the tax-man chased though the courts and lost out to paying the players 1st.

i think they should give something back to the club and the fans after the great support even after two successive relegations. you wouldnt agree that proffessional footballers should show loyalty to the club and its fans? Why don't these fans put an extra fiver in a bucket every game and give it to "their" players? Loyalty's a two way thing. I'd support the players if they went on strike. It might be better for the game in the long run if some clubs did go to the wall, to bring some sense to football financing. If a club can't meet its commitments at its current level then it deserves to fail and restart at a lower level. That's not the end of the world, as several clubs have already shown.

Is 9 months not enough of an effort by the players? That's at least a million sacrificed!! Also what about the support staff? Lets not forget them!!

Totally agree, there is loyalty and there is taking the michael.. For what ever reason the club hasnt paid the players for months so they HAVE to make a stand.
Regardless of what work you do 9 months without pay is beyond anything any reasonabl eperson could expect.
Gtismygod, you say you're just 17, wait until you have a house with a mortgage, cars to run, bills to pay, kids to clothe and feed etc. etc. and then perhaps you will see that there is nothing selfish about what the players are suggesting. You sound like my son, he thinks I just go and get money from a tree at the bottom of the garden.

Gtismygod sorry if you think you've taken a bit of a hammering over this. But your a young lad with an idealistic view of the world. The problem is most of us started like that, but now were old hacks and if our bosses told us the sun is going to rise in in the east most of us would get up to check it.
I agree with the idea that players going on strike is not a nice idea, no football fan wants to see it.
When you have a situation like this you have to draw a line in the sand and stick by it other wise people will just walk over you time and time again. The Plymouth players did that at the start of August.
The only problem I really with your 1st post was that you called the players selfish, if it had only been a month or over payed prem players then you would of had a good point and I would of agreed with you. But a League 2 team after 9 months I just couldn't.

As I said before if they are going to take the club over, why not pay them, It's only money you are going to give them in the end any way. Unless they aren't going to take over the club. If they haven't got the money then that really worrying.

I should add that I agree with out that waiting a couple of weeks until it's all sorted isn't that bad, but they said the same thing 2 months ago, stay with us and and it will be sorted in a couple of weeks
I think at the end of the day it's also a case of the players trying forcing the take over bidders hand.

Too many people have already been ripped off by clubs not paying their way and surviving on sentiment alone. If that's where a club's at, it should forfeit its league place and start again at a sustainable level. If that was Shrewsbury Town so be it - I'd support them in the EvoStik or wherever.

Plymouth are just another example of a 'small' club getting into the Championship, finally getting relegated and struggling to survive financially.
If Town ever get back to that level (which is the stated long term goal I think I'm right in saying), I just hope that we are too astute to follow those before us.

I totally agree that the players have a right to withdraw their labour. No pay for 9 months beggars belief. I could rip in to the young man, but realise that he is only 17 and has a lot to learn about life. Whenever the term " loyalty" comes into the equation it makes me smile. Loyalty in professional football does not exist in todays game, at whatever level. A player signs for another club because he is either not wanted at his present club, or because HE wants to move. Usually for more money or a longer contract if he is getting on in years, to ensure his financial security. A selling club probably told him he was the best thing since sliced bread when he signed, but soon get tired of paying wages to someone who was a "mistake" in the first place. And how many times have you seen the sickening sight of a new player wearing his new clubs shirt, and spouting the usual gobs**te, " i,ve always been a United/City/Rovers/Albion/Town fan(delete as approp.) or see Davies B.
Why should a player show loyalty to a club or its fans when he has no connection with them i will never understand, or expect.

How are they still bound by their contracts, if it states they receive money for their services?
Is/was there any legal precedent for them (during the recent window) freely advertising themselves as available to other teams, and walking away due to prior breach of contract by the club, with the club not being obliged to receive a fee?
Did Arrrrghyle put any in the shop window and try to recover some funds that way?

It was a good thread. Wasn't a wind up and what does it matter if everyone disagreed with you? That's a badge of honour for some of us. ;D

Gtismygod.... I think the players stance perhaps disproves the fact that "striking doesn't help anyone"...... United we stand, divided we fall bro Keep posting tho.... no shame in one mistake!

Couldn't agree more, I know we shared a few words on here but a good debate between fans never hurts anyone!
