Getting more than a little annoyed at the 'play offs are a lottery' brigade. The play offs are about three cup games...the best team over the three games wins the play off final. so why is it being called a 'lottery'? It becomes a lottery if the wind, snow, dodgy liners, rain etc intervene. Last year Donny were a full 14 points adrift of Morcambe, I think I am right in that, and look how they have performed this year. I have always felt that if we finished in the mini league play offs at the end of the season, then that had to be counted as a success. Of all the sides that we have played at Gay Meadow this season, I would say that the best football has come from Leigh, Hucknall and Aldershot....not Hereford and Chester. Staggered to find that in the press today that Chester have been promoted playing 'an attractive brand of attacking football'!!! That the club is well run and will be a credit to the Nationwide League, and look set to emulate Doncaster!!! Err............ The team that can handle the pressure of these next few games, will send their club into the Nationwide.

I agree with you as far as Chester being a boring side with only one tactic - the big ball over the top. However, I think that in some respects, it can be a lotery. How can it be decided who goes up in 3 matches, even if a team has done miles better than the other throughout 42 games?? For example, Hereford have scored over 100 goals, and are on 88 points. Compare them to the team that finishes 5th - possiblly Barnet, Exeter or even Morecambe. The highest number of points possible for these teams are as follows... Barnet - 71 (scored 58 goals) Exeter - 69 (scored 68) Morecambe - 71 (scored 62) I think Hereford would be absolutely gutted to not go up, considering there is a chance they could lose to a team that have 22 less points than them (Exeter), or scored 43 goals less (Barnet). Although I think it is a 'lottery,' I won't argue too much, because we are miles behind Hereford, and could still beat them to Division 3!

Even more reasons for Hereford to be gutted... Been reading the NLP today, and saw that they have lost 3 home games - Leigh RMI, Tamworth and Burton Albion!!! If they had of beaten just one of these teams, they would have been able to win the league on the last day against Chester.

In fact, if Hereford had drawn just one of these games, a win against Chester would have taken them up on goal difference... what a game it could have been next Saturday... Min you, the whole season's about ifs and buts... If things had been different Shrewsbury would now be celebrating winning the Championship after an unbeaten season!!!
