First of all I must say the optimism on this board over the last week has astounded me. As someone who has stood up for Quinn over the last few months I’ve started to lose a bit of faith over the last week. I thought the performance against Chester was well below par and better performances have been booed off. We seemed to have exactly the same game plan as at the Deva, i.e. play long ball, and when we did try to get the ball down we could hardly string two passes together.
The same goes for yesterday where we were very lucky not to be behind after the first half. Still, credit to JQ for making the right substitutions after being unfairly criticised for the wrong ones against Exeter. Once Sedge came on we looked far more assured and played the game out the stronger. I think the side that played against Chester and Stevenage lacked the experience in midfield to track runners into the box and with a bit of good movement as shown by Stevenage we were cut open far too often. That’s why I feel if we are to get anywhere in the play-offs we need O Connor back ASAP. Here’s what I think is our best side at the moment and the side to take us into the playoffs:
Howie
Moss Riddler Tinson Challis
Lowe OConnor Street Aiston
Cramb Darby
Shock horror no Rodgers, Tolley or Edwards.
I was at Farnborough and thought finally that Luke had regained some of his form but subsequent games have shown that to be few and far between. Some of his decision making yesterday was diabolical and put us on the back foot when we should have been in their box. I know allot of people hate Cramb but he seems to work well with Darbs (Hereford at home) and I reckon he'd be up for the playoffs. I think yesterday showed that we are a far more creative side with Ryan in the team, the lad has alot of talent and if he could possibly interchange with Street now and again and come infield I think we may see a little more of that. I don’t think you could take Street out of the side on current form and we definitely need a defensive midfielder there that can take the game by the scruff of the neck, I’m yet to be convinced whether Tolley or Edwards can do this.
So what does everyone else think?
