B&A U20s boss Pete Jones has been dealt and 11th hour blow after highly rated reserve winger Young_Shrewster withdrew from the squad.
Shrewster, one of the real fledgings of Jones' squad is due to fly out to Spain supposedly to negotiate a deal with Real Madrid, who feel the need to bolster their midfield arsenal in the wake of David Beckhams personal problems. There are talks in the Spanish media however that Shrewster too could be enticed by the Latino lifestyle, bringing new meaning to the phrase 'toy boy'.
Jones was naturally disappointed at the loss of his young star, especially as it is believed there was no fee involved due to Shrewster only being on a rolling contract, but the Welshman is trying to remain upbeat on his sides chances, insisting they still have enough squad depth to compete with the rigours of supporters team football.
Speaking at a hastily arranged press conference, Jones said 'Obviously Shrewster is a big loss as he would be to any side, but when a club like Madrid come knocking, y'know, it's just too good an opportunity to turn down at the end of the day'.
When questioned on how his squad would cope with the withdrawl, Jones was optimistic. 'We have two talented young midfielders still available in reserve in the shape of HP_Shrew and jamojunior, and several of my team are very versatile and could easily fill in if the situation arose'
Jones as ever was full of praise for his team, keen to point out that they liked any real weakness in any position.
'It was a massive coup to sign Tyrone Marshall as goalkeeper, he has bags of experience for such a young age and I have no doubt my decision to bestow the captaincy of the side on him will be fully vindicated.
I have a couple of dependable full backs in Afro and Blueshrew and with Ema and TOAO in reserve I am fully satisfied that my defence is equipped to handle the Vets front line. I have two 'cultured' centre backs in Stue and Joey, they dont mind getting stuck in and playing the no nonsence game when needed but they are both equally comfortable coming forward with the ball and attacking corners, and that breathes confidence through the whole side.
Midfield is where the game will be won and lost, and I am delighted with the four I have assembled to take on the Vets. Fans of supporters football will need no introduction to Ant in the centre, his driven approach will hopefully have a positive impact on the rest of the team, and of course his goal scoring record speaks for itself. Rob is one who really wears his heart on his sleeve, willing to get stuck in and hopefully can provide decent service to myself and faginy. Murray is another with a great scoring record in these games and adds some good ariel presence to the side, and in ShrewFan we have a real gem, and no doubt this side will be the platform for him to go on to bigger things...this game will put the lad in the shop window.
Our front line of myself and faginy has been lambasted in the press but I think some of the criticism is very unfair, we have both chalked up goals in the past and if the service is right we will thrive on it.'
But will Jones prove to be all talk and no action? See todays Slopshire Star for the official lowdown on tomorrows action...
