Opinion seems to be divided. Is Scott Howie really the best keeper at the club.Everyone I seem to speak to has a different opinion. For me he is too indecisive and does'nt command his box enough and the back 4 clearly don't have a great deal of confidence in him.Would he still be in the team if JQ had managed to sign Telford keeper on deadline day.I think not. And what did Ian Dunbavin ever do wrong?

I find it hard to believe that you criticise the lad after tonight. Is it just natural to find a fault/negative in a town player after every Town game. Give them credit for once, Howie did absolutely nothing wrong tonight so why bring this up ??

Not saying he had a bad game but didn't exactly have a lot to do and he's not the type of keeper who fills you full of confidence.I think more often than not our defence make him look good cos lets face tinno and co have been excellent for the majority of the season

Howie is comfortably better than Dunbavin and is a contender for player of the season.
Dunbavin is not a terrible keeper but at the same time not brilliant either. Clubs have hardly been rushing for his signature.

Howie rarely does anything wrong, and the poll I conducted on here a month back had about 80% of people saying they prefer him in goal to Dunbavin.
Bavo is a good shot stopper but thats about it. His kicking is poor, and he has no command of his box. Any sort of cross has him flapping. Does anyone remember the Cambridge away game last season? I have never seen a worse goalkeeping display.

Unbelievable. Howie was solid as a rock tonight. Took the danger out of some very good crosses

Another good game - well he had little to do really
BUT - there is lots of room for improvement in his game and he is not the finished artical - two key areas for improvement for me - Comeing for crosses and holding the ball not punching and when defenders are running back at goal takeing charge of the situation not staying back on the line. Its clear that both Rids and Tinno have lost some confidence in playing back passes to him now. But he will recover from this and be an important player in the playoffs no doubt.
Well done Scott

Our defence has improved no end from last year- the goals against stat speaks for itself- and Howie has made a significant contribution to this

"Too indecisive and doesn't command the box enough, and the back 4 clearly don't have a great deal of confidence in him". "And what did Ian Dunbavin ever do wrong?"
Seems like you have answered your own question, in a nutshell.
Add on poor kicking, total lack of the basic instinct of when, and when not to come for crosses, as well as when and when not to open his mouth. What is left? A shot stopper and not much else.

Bavo's attitude off the pitch is enough to convince me

Some of the comments about Howey are unbeliveable!I presume we are watching the same keeper here? It's the one that plays in the Grey top, tall lad, always cleans up the mess the defenders create?
Howeys kicking has been pretty much consistant (incomparasion to some) all season and last night proved this. Or perhaps you would prefer the kicking of Eagle or Bavo?
Yup, he's not vocal as he should be, he does punch sometimes when he should catch but lets face it Bavo is feckin useless when it comes to crossing, set pieces and was consistanly lobbed for all of last season.
Howey is the best keeper that has been here for a decade BAR NONE and it's about time some of supporters recognised this.

IMO Howie is so much better than Bavo it's u true.
He puches the ball in a lot of situations as it's the safe option. His shot stopping is second to none and he compands his box 100 times better than Bavo does.
Player of the season IMO

As a former keeper myself of some repute ( all poor of course) I would say that scott Howie is one of the better keepers we have ahd at the club for some time. He is worth his place in the side. His ability to pull of saves, agility and athleticism are good. His positioning is also good. Kicking is sound, every keeper has one or two misplaced kicks in a game.
The one area he need to work on is his communication with his defence. He is not as commanding as he could be and especially when the defenders are chasing back towards him he should give the lead and take responsibilty. Last night this weakness was apparent several times.

Punching is much more a part of the 'keepers game these days, is it because of the new 'swervy' balls?
All the decisions to punch were right last night, trying to catch the ball when surrounded by a bunch of basket ball players would have been very risky.

scott howie is without doubt the best keeper i have seen down the meadow in a long time, he can kick well under pressure with both feet, he's catches crosses with confidence, he's been a rock in that goal for us this season and i can't believe people still find room to critisise the lad
i do wonder though if he and tinson get on at all though because tinson seems to be the only player in that team who doesn't trust passing the ball back him

Did anyone notice Bavo shaking the hands of all the Town players last night as they went off the pitch after the warm up, i wonder what all that was about then?
Was it a good luck lads or a good bye lads handshake?

Surely Scott is one of JQ's star signings. Most of the goals I have seen him let in have been from excellent strikes or curling shots that ANY keeper would not have saved - Telford's goals especially. I would go as far to say that if we were a league club, he would probably be in line for more Scottish caps.

Judging by J Q's views last night, it doesn't seem as if Bavo has got much of a future at Shrewsbury. He sang the praises of Joe hart, seems to want to install him as the future No 2 keeper, and gave the impression that it wasn't feasible to have three goalies at the club.

Scott Howie is a better goalkeeper than Ian Dunbavin.........FACT!
I cant understand it when people around me get peed off when he punches the ball away from corners, rather he did that then attempt to catch it but then flap at the thing....
