Just asking the question really, my colleagues at work often ask me what inspires me to go 150 miles to watch conference football

The best reponse is usually to ask them what they'll be doing instead at the weekend because the answer is usually 'sitting in front of the TV' - nuff said.

Season ticket holder, have missed 4 games this season, but will be missing the next two home ones.
I enjoy the day out, the travelling can sometimes be a pain in the arse but it's always good to meet other football fans on the train to and from matches.

I suppose for me its the chance to watch the team I support, and get together with the family, or friends.

For me - it's about coming back home, home in the broad sense of England, specifically Bridgnorth, and always a Shrewsbury game or two.

I'm answering, because I'm based in Reading altho' I do come home for holidays.
Try and tie in visits to Amy (at Nottingham uni) with going to Salop games as well.

Living in York I travel to all games within 100 miles and get about 4-6 home games in when visiting family.

Replying on behalf of my son who lives in Yorkshire (Wakefield). He is currently in Washington (America) - I don't think this has anything to do with the Telford result - he was there and was pretty mad. He comes because he always has a season ticket and wouldn't consider supporting anyone else despite severe provocation over the past few years and despite the team's best efforts to save him petrol!!!!!

fair play fella's. all this endeavour on your part put's into perspective the very little effort i have to apply, mostly it's no problem getting up to go and watch the town but after the last Telford game i wouldn't have crossed the road to see them . I don't think the club sometimes appreciate the sacrifices to family and business life that some people make to support their team.

Jamo2 you're quite right. Even I travel 20 miles to every home match and 20 miles back + the same amount to catch the away coach for nearly every game. Ludlow Shrews travel even further as no doubt do those supporters from North Shropshire - not only do the club management not realise how far people travel but at times there is no doubt neither does the team

We are in the 20-30 bracket this season. Obviously midweeks are a problem - especially with getting the kids back home so late and having to deal with the M6 at peak time (good old toll road!). They will be suffering a late return on Tuesday.

I'll speak for my travelling companions, Tony and Andy as they don't have internet access.
We all go to every home game we can - work permitting - and to away games within a reasonable distance of Manchester.
It's abour 65 miles each way for Tony and me, Andy lives near Chorley so I guess it's an extra 30 miles for him.

I'm not particularly proud of my record. I'll have totalled 6 matches- plus Open Day (which is a sort of support for Town, because I bought my Town shirt and lots of other things from the Clubshop.) My problem is Saturday work (and Tuesday evening work) at The Dyslexia Centre. I did manage to nick 2 hours off to go to Leigh. Otherwise I have to wait for holidays- and then work round Mr Wiggy's plans. Hopefully, I'll be able to do better next year- I'm trying to wind down- an get rid of Saturday work. (But then he'll probably say we'll have less money, so I can't go every Saturday! Can't win!! Well - I'm aiming for a season ticket next season. (It'll be concessionary price by then! Senior Railcard as well, and I'll be sorted, won't I?

Stevenage next saturday will be my 14th game of the season which given the distance (approx 200 miles to Shrewsbury) and given that I'm saving for my wedding isn't too bad (although there have been plenty of away games local to me this year)
I've averaged between 10 and 20 games per season since I moved away from Shrewsbury four years ago

Not a clue how to vote, but add me to the 1-10 away matches, with at least one home match as well if anyone else knows how to do it!

Looking at the results up to yet, it seems that half of the exiles who have voted are season ticket holders. Thats very interesting, Im not sure why, but it is....
It also takes a hell of a lot of committment, you lads deserve all the credit you get.
After all, its not just the price of the season ticket, is it, you have to get there, theres beer to buy, and Loyalshrew has to have his two breakfasts...
I probably would have got into the 20-30 bracket if I hadn't been out of the country for 5 weeks, I missed 7 matches in that period.

First season that I haven't been a season ticket holder. Chester will be my 28th game this season. Can only get to Tuesday night games if they're south of Northwich if I leave straight from work in N. Somerset or Avonmouth.

Have to agree with a couple of posters who have said a big . If I had to do a 100 mile round trip to see Town every game, after some of the performances in recent years, I think I would have packed it in a long time ago. I consider myself a loyal fan, but you guys really do put some of us to shame with your effort. A lot of the travelling is much more than just the football. It's about seeing friends, talking to people on the trip up and having a laugh. Also playing for the ASFC makes a big difference. If I made a round trip of 350+ miles each week just for the game I'd get even angrier at some of the performances this season - fortunately though football is more about the day out on the whole.

Hey, Loyalshrew- stop laying that guilt-trip on me!!! I feel bad enough already. I do try and support in other ways- member of Super-Blues- so make regular contributions..etc...And I've brought along new supporters - my grandchildren! Believe me, it's hard being married to a Non-Shrew!!!! Especially an "armchair" Tranmere Supporter. Tell him I'm going to a match andf he'll raise 101 objections at least. (He's not aggressive about it or anything- he just doesn't see why I can't be content to be an "armchair" supporter like he is!!) Last time I left it till 2 hours before the train was due before I announced that I was going!!
