Ed, whilst its clear there are problems within English football, specifically relating to the amount of debt clubs are in, its a bit rich to say the English need to get their house in order when you look at problems around the world
Theres lots of problems with various leagues in Europe (and around the world) ranging from serious debt, match fixing, hooliganism, racism, corruption and so on.
English football isnt perfect but I would argue that its biggest problem stems from the growing commercialism of the game. However to suggest that it is only in England where profit is put before sporting success would be very, very naive. You only have to do a google search of most profitable clubs in Europe to see that
But anyway what has the English Premier League go to do with the English World Cup bid? Surely the fact that this years world cup was in South Africa and the 2022 will be held in Qatar shows that the strength of the host nations domestic league is immaterial.
Paul the Premier League is seen across the world as English football. Slowly it together with its partner SKy are in my opinion destroying the international team. Games are no longer played for the fans who go out in all weather to support their clubs they are played for the convenience of a Media company. It is ridiculous that only just over 30% of the players on any weekend playing in the Premiership are English.
The wages paid means that now rarely do the best players move into coaching or finish their careers playing for clubs like the Town.
Can I ask why the amount of English players playing in the Premier League has got to do with the English World Cup bid? Or why the lack of English players ending up at lower league clubs has got to do with the world cup bid?
This thread is about the world cup bid and you said we need to get our house in order, I fail to see why anything you said should affect the world cup bid. Im not saying it doesnt but surely we shouldnt be penalised for the way the footballing world sees us
As I said earlier, surely the fact that South Africa held the tournament this year and Qatar are due to hold it in 2022 means that the FIFA dont care about the countries domestic league. In fact it clearly shows that the strength of the host nations international team is immaterial. However your now claiming that we need to get our house in order and that is what cost us the world cup bid. So England get penalised for problems with its domestic league but for other countries it appears to be immatieral. Surely that would lend favour to that there is an agenda against English football?
