I would say mine is the Bull in the Barne on The Mount. Good pint, nice beer garden with a view over the West Mid and plenty of town fans who attend games in there who you can chat to. Plus it's the nearest pub to where i live.

From college days, the Boathouse. A lovely spot in the summer and in July this year, I the opportunity to visit the pub and show off some the delights of Shrewsbury to my wife. Brought back wonderful memories of summer drinking a good ‘free’ place to watch the flower show fireworks!

The Three Fishes.
1st pub to go no smoking when smoking was permitted elsewhere.
Excellent selection of real ales. Good food too.

I don't go to many town pubs these days (family commitments etc, you know how it is) but I always enjoyed the Rock and Fountain, and their unrivaled selection of fine local ales. I always enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the homely feel - a world away from these identikit pubs that seem to be springing up all over the place these days. A shame there aren't more places like that around imo

No good pubs left in shrewsbury. Since the Mardol, whitehart, elephant and old slipper have closed the town centre has died (pub wise).

Dont drink in Shrews too much these days, the Yorkshire House has a good friendly and lively atmosphere but the Crown in Coleham is a great little boozer with a great beer garden overlooking the river, was probably my favourite GM pre-match watering hole overall although I also enjoyed visiting the Telepost in Town Walls when they opened before games for a brief period.
As for the worst, never really liked the Albert for some reason or another.....

The Three Fishes. 1st pub to go no smoking when smoking was permitted elsewhere. Excellent selection of real ales. Good food too. i thought it looked a bit in need of some decorating last time I went in - there was a group of us, and we turned and left - which seemed to please the few people in there off to bull in the Barne in a minute - in town it has to Nags, salopian, Loggers, coach & Horses, benbow

On current form I'd say it would be the Benbow, Salopian and Anchor Frankwell for me.

haha. Oh dear, might limit my xmas exploits to others then.
have to say a few of my experiences in the Boathouse have been like that, as soon as you would have to drink inside, i don't go near it.

bull in the barne out of loyalty.
some cracking little pubs in shrewsbury - nags head, the crown in coleham, the masonic (once upon a time), the loggerheads, the plough in frankwell.
where was the white hart? i remember the name and think i went there a few times but just can't remember where it was. also used to like the pub on the square, the plough before that closed down.

Nags Head and Crown Coleham, handy when I used to work at the Telephone Exchange, also like the Fishes but agree it's looking a bit tired but maybe that's its charm. Even my missus likes it The White Hart was next to the Ploughboy and is now a shop.

I had dinner in the Dun Cow before watching the Manchester derby and the one girl behind the bar was nothing short of rude to us. Won't be going back in a hurry. We ordered a couple of steaks and some ale, didn't do anything silly, but she started trying to be funny with us, in an awkward way, not humorous at all. I think she was trying to impress a "regular" also at the bar, but it was the worst service I have ever had and I won't be going there again for a while. If we weren't so darn hungry (and the game about to start) we would have left. We were putting £25+ in the till and we didn't go there to be humiliated for someone else's pleasure.
On to good pubs in town. Agree with much of what ahs been said. Salopian bar is great but doesn't feel as the same as other places, probably because it is newer. Ollie is a great landlord, keeps a good ale and has let us use the venue for music night's etc.
The Three Fishes does some of my favourite ales, but agree with Scoot that some of the regulars can make you feel unwelcome. I also like the Benbow & Coach and Horses.
I think the crown in coleham is a good all rounder for sport / cheap food etc.

No good pubs left in shrewsbury. Since the Mardol, whitehart, elephant and old slipper have closed the town centre has died (pub wise). I wouldnt say theres no decent pubs left but they are definitely dying out. I think theres plenty around Shrewsbury for a drink but pub crawl wise, Shrewsbury town centre is rubbish now. When I started you had the likes of Black Bull, Hole in the Wall, Exchange, Lloyds, Jacksons which were always a good atmosphere. These places have either shut or been turned into completely different places which arent my cup of tea. Im liking the pub crawl between the Brooklands and into town down Belle Vue Road but someone needs to build a pub halfway between the the Brooklands and the Grove as thats a bit of a walk without a drink

It's a shame they're dying out - i hear a few pub which are closed down Coleham/Belle Vue have bee bought with the idea of turning them into flats too. Town centre 'pubs' are awful - ok not all of them are but i hate this 'wine bar' trend, serving pints in really long thin glasses pfft. Also when i go out these days, there just isn't anyone in these places - no atmosphere at all.

Also when i go out these days, there just isn't anyone in these places - no atmosphere at all. Yeah the Hen & Chicks is being knocked down, as is the Castle. Lots of pubs been closed/knocked down in recent years but not exclusive to Shrewsbury. Ive moaned about some of the places that have been shut as refer to them as proper pubs (Station, Plough x 2, Severn Apprentice, Castle, Hen & Chicks etc) but in reality I hardly drank in them so a bit hypocritical. You have to say that judging by how busy some of the wine/cafe bars are then they are clearly popular and if people want to drink in them then thats up to them. But Ive been to places such as Morgans, Romolo's (Grazia), Franks and it really doesnt do anything for me. For some people though its about being seen in the right bar which is laughable as this is Shrewsbury, not West End of London. Although I do remember the area down Barker Street being referred to as Shrewsburys West End Maybe with the re-opening of Liquid/Diva and the re-opening/refurb of a few pubs (Players, Evolution, Bar Fever ) the town centre will pick up but it has been quiet for a long time. Ive tended to avoid the centre where possible and drink on the outskirts

Dont like real ale, and pretty much only go to pubs in town for watching matches, or pre STFC matchs and each time its the Crown Colham, nice mix of old mon's in the corner, the staff are in general decent, good supply of crisps, always have the football on and in the summer idea for sitting outside.... all I require at the moment.
Franks is a decent little place for a few drinks out with friends, as is the Salopian and Bull In Butcher Row (nice bit out the back), but I think thats because there all pretty local to where I live!
And I have always had a sweet spot for the old school charms of the Kings Head at the bottom of Mardol!

Oh right - that place changes it's name daily, is it even open at the moment as Evolution? It was Topcats but then changed to Evolution. Went to a party there about 6 weeks ago when it hadnt long opened and to be fair it was quite nice, well upstairs anyway as that is where I spent most of the night. Assume its still open but havent been back since to say how busy it gets The one place I cant believe has never been reopened is Bar Severn, that would be ideal for a sports bar. Over the years heard that the reason it hasnt is something to do with sharing a cellar with Reflex but not sure if its one of those stories that does the rounds.

Bar Severn used to be heaving back in the days of the Academy - even thurs and weds nights were buzzing with students. Such a prime location at the heart of the town - it would be a good sports bar/live music or comedy bar or a combination of the three. I always thought it was to do with the flooding in the cellars which was fair enough; however since the success of the flood defences i imagine that problem ceases to exist.

Usually sad to see pubs go, but I have never missed the White Hart to be honest
used the Chicks pre match for many years, and it will be a shame to see it go, but i would rarely go there now

There must be something more to the whole Bar Severn thing? Seems bizarre to have a venue in such a prime location sat empty for so long - what is preventing it from reopening as a bar/ club or something else?

Conflict of intrests between various owners in that local... was it not that Reflex said they would move out if Morris let the bar seven venue to another night club/bar owner... therefore as Reflex has the larger property and thus higher rents to Morris properties they just leave it old bar severn unused or advertise it to new owners with LARGE rents which if it came off would mean that the money lost from reflextleaving was covered?
Someone put up an informative post on the matter some time back, bit I cant remember the specifics now...
