Nags Head is where I go most of the time but also regularly frequent both the PoW and Three Fishes as they both have good ales. What about the worst pub? I'd say the Masonic is pretty bad, it looks smart and has all the screens for sport but it's clientel, s**t beer and crap atmosphere mean it is at the bottom of my list. Closely followed by the Shrewsbury Hotel and the King's Head. But that's just my view, sure many people will disagree.

Not a big fan of montgomerys and get dragged there sometimes, ditto with Players. Altho went to morgans and surprised, didn't think it was bad. Still would much prefer benbow, coach and horses or nags if in the centre. Hole in the wall is awful too. What's the current news on the old liqud/diva etc? Difficult to keep up with stuff like tht when you don't live there all the time.

Havent been but Id suspect its another case of "we have spent thousands on refurbishing the place" only to get there and realise that its pretty much the same as before with a bit of paint and a new sofa somewhere.

As posted before - regarding Bar Severn....
Simples...... Bar Severn is owned by who ever owns R R R Reflex......... they are trying to sub-let the space but have resirticted the licence to finish at 11pm so as not to clash with their customer base....... Cheaper for them to pay the rent than to allow a new venue to open up behind them

I know the theory is that we live in a 24 hour drinking culture nowadays but in reality its rubbish, plenty of pubs either have the traditional last orders or if they do continue serving late then they have it a lock in type style so no one else can go in. If you went into town after 11 to get a drink there wouldnt be a lot of places you would be able to From memory Bar Severn never opened late and it was more of a place you went for a drink and then went to the Academy, in fact I think it occasionally opened up directly into the Academy. Just seems a waste to me.

The Three Fishes. 1st pub to go no smoking when smoking was permitted elsewhere. Excellent selection of real ales. Good food too. First port of call when I'm in town...which is too rare.

Sad to read that several favourites from my youth have gone, however pleased to see several that were top places 40+ years ago, such as the Yorkshire House and the Loggerheads, are still popular.
In my youth the Bull in the Barne was the Windsor Castle. Apparentlly the original Bull in the Barn was on the other side of the road by Barracks Lane.

Anyone go in the dolphin? Whats that like these days? Well it looks like it has done ever since I can remember, shut!! Never been in there, always used to remember walking past it and being told that they didnt serve lager and it was over 25's only. Not sure if it was true but definitely not the case now as has a Carling sign. Noticed the Britannia has been shut quite a few times walked past recently, not sure if that is still open? Shame if it goes as with the Station and the Plough going, the amount of places down there is reducing. Although I see the Castle Vaults has opened again now.

For me, no pub in Shrewsbury or any of it's surrounding boroughs for that matter can even come close to the Two Henry's at Battlefield. I knew as soon as it announced it was going no-smoking from day one that it would turn out to be a great watering hole.
A special mention must also go to the Romping Cat in Bomere aswell, Always good to end a weekend with a cheeky half in there.
