Its getting crazy after the game now.Car drivers trying to race the pedestrians to the gate because at some point they do stop the cars.Get outside the gate and there is a line of parked cars all parked illegally on double yellow lines. Then as soon as you try to cross the road to go up Oteley Road you meet a convoy of cars ,buses and bikes coming from your left .(I park at the Darwin) Somebody will get injured and its as likely to be in the car park as outside it.

Coaches are part of the travel plan to cut down on the number of cars. I believe some of the buses are struggling for numbers as it is. The encouragement to use buses, is that you get away quickly from the ground. Keep them back, and the system would collapse, as people found alternative ways to travel. In our case, the A488 funbus in totally independent. If it goes tits up, there's no-one to bail us out. Although at present we are financially sound, we have lost regulars who have found some other way of getting to/from the stadium. Cars are kept back. But you have to remember, that Oteley Road is busy anyway. Is it really worth the risk to allow coaches to move whilst pedestrians are negociating the car park with no pavements? There is a pavement, Davey. It's to the left of the coach park. The coaches were held back today, to the point where just a few pedestrians were sauntering out. I thought today about the 80 somethings on our bus who are coming after not attending for years, because they can't now drive or walk far. Without our bus, they couldn't come, so I'm going to defend this coach on their behalf. There are better alternatives to help pedestrians out, but unless the will is there, it won't happen.

as you try to cross the road to go up Oteley Road you meet a convoy of cars ,buses and bikes coming from your left . But it's a public road. When we came out of the ground today, there was a queue of cars coming from Percy Throwers direction, they aren't from the ground.

When there was a big crowd at the Gay Meadow a policeman used to put the traffic lights on red and keep them on red until the biggest part of the crowd had gone.

When there was a big crowd at the Gay Meadow a policeman used to put the traffic lights on red and keep them on red until the biggest part of the crowd had gone. And many many more times they wouldnt bother and you'd run the gauntlet of inconsiderate barsteward car drivers to whom every minute was critical. I think for 10 mins from final whistle all cars/buses/coaches shouldnt move, in that time 90% + of fans on foot/bike will be dispersed and on the side of Oteley road that they need. By the time these 80 somethings have been to the loo and got to the coach the 10 mins will be done and dusted so no problem!

I saw the person being tended to by Percy throwers entrance before the game - I don't know even if he was going to the game, and it was still light and he had a fluorescent jacket on and was still knocked down.
Hope he's OK.

A better idea would be to keep all pedestrians behind for 15 minutes to let the buses and cars leave. There, I've solved it.

Being serious, I think we need to look at ways of getting pedestrians away after the match. We have bags of room , there has to be a better exit, which avoids the traffic. I'm not blaming the club here. When it was first explained, it sounded perfectly feasible, but I think we need to look at it again and get some other ideas. Oh, and pee ess....the club will monitor this thread, so anything you put on here, will be considered, if it's sensible.

There is a simple and I would guess relatively inexpensive solution. At the side of the power league pitches there is a huge expanse of green area, lay a wide tarmac path across that and make a gateway onto the pavement on Otely road (it would be approx 150 yards from the main gate). This would mean fans coming into and out of the stadium could keep a safe distance from the main gate which could be used by the cars / coaches. For anyone going UP Oteley road towards Sutton they would have the safety of the pedestrian crossings at the traffic lights. Surely a simple pedestrian gate and pathway (no steps required) would be a cheap(ish) and sensible option. Maybe Super Blues could help with funding (and call it Super Blues Gate)...
