Keith,
Tommorrow is our first home game since the end of British Summer Time. For the many fans who use Oteley Road in the direction of Sutton it will bring the first safety challenge of the 2010/11 season.
As the custodian of our Travel Plan, may I ask you to reinforce the message to stewards that priority must be given to pedestrians leaving the stadium to enable them to reach the footpath on Oteley road before any vehicles, including P&R coaches, are allowed to depart.
May I also cordially invite you to come and experience at first hand the conflict of interest between pedestrians, cyclists and the increasing hazard of cars parking on Oteley Road to pick-up fans.
With no realistic prospect of adequate street lighting being provided along Oteley Road, those of us who walk along Otely Road are dependent on the correct operation of the Travel Plan.
Perhaps you would consider broadcasting a suitable safety message over the PA system at tommorrow's game.
Apologies for using the medium of B&A to contact you.

I'd be amazed if you get a reply on here TBH. Much better to use the email contact on the official site or post on Shrewschat (does that still exist? )

Not good that your cover blown in a few posts Very important post because Keith Sayfritz does read the mb, maybe it should be pinned so he does not miss it - and it's a good reminder to all, because Oteley Road after a match is an accident waiting to happen, especially considering the speed the buses zoom up Oteley Road over the bridge.

I've just sent Keith a text asking him to take a look. Can I suggest that if you do seriously want a dialogue with KS, you either approach the club who will pass your details on, or put contact details on your post - he's the sort of guy who will genuinely do his best to help with any issues but he's not a mind reader.

DaveG - Thanks for doing that. It just needs KS, or his designated rep, to wander over to Oteley Road immediately after the game and observe the situation. I believe there is a Travel Plan liaison group in existence which KS chairs. That's the correct forum for solutions to be identified/implemented.

I quite agree Spartan - and I hear it is chaotic after matches. As I say, in future I would suggest emailing the club for Keith's attention, which enables the club to keep a record of correspondence, and enables him to respond to you without having to put it on here. It also means that anyone else who sits on that sub-committee can be copied in. Hope everything gets sorted.

I dont know if you remember but the 'Super Blues' Way at the back of the West Stand was dangerous with lots of stones/rocks and generally uneven. Complaints were made but nothing happened. However these were all used as missiles against Port Vale and by the next home game the path had been miracously cleared.
Therefore after tomorrows home game we all set off fireworks and flares on Oteley Road and mark my words by Tuesday night, the road will be lit up like its christmas.

The council wont stump up the money for it. Sadly it will stay like that until someone is seriously hurt or killed, then they may feel they can justify the cost.

I really feel that this issue calls for someone to enter into joint talks with the club and talks with the local council fwiw. We really need to get to the bottom of this imo

Agreed that this needs resolving. It's been a serious concern for those of us that have taken this route since the stadium opened. Those first coaches out really do tear up Oteley Road, it's just a matter of time......

I've used the A488 Fun Bus since town moved grounds.
When we first started going to the ground our bus always had to turn right, under Steward instruction, and head up pass Percy Throwers' towards the by-pass.
In recent seasons we have always turned right and headed down towards Meole Brace island. I can only assume that the Drivers have been told to use there quickest route away from the ground.
Jaytee may be able to shed more light on the subject?

Two separate problems here 1. the coaches (and cars) should not be allowed to move / start engines for at least 15 mins after final whistle as at the moment there's a rush to get to the gate to be first away when they are allowed to move without restriction. The greatest risk is an accident on the car park with 5000+ people and cars and coaches all making their way toward the gate at the same time 2. Pedestrians either walking in the road or not taking enough care crossing - I'm referring to those walking toward Meole in particular as i walk that way - I'm sure the coaches and cars stay on the road once they've left the stadium so advice to pedestrians KEEP OFF THE ROAD unless crossing then take care and you'll be OK in other words don't cross if there's a speeding coach or car heading your way

I believe some of the buses are struggling for numbers as it is. The encouragement to use buses, is that you get away quickly from the ground. Keep them back, and the system would collapse, as people found alternative ways to travel. In our case, the A488 funbus in totally independent. If it goes tits up, there's no-one to bail us out. Although at present we are financially sound, we have lost regulars who have found some other way of getting to/from the stadium. Cars are kept back. But you have to remember, that Oteley Road is busy anyway.

Is it really worth the risk to allow coaches to move whilst pedestrians are negociating the car park with no pavements? are fans that fickle that they'd make alternative travel arrangements because coaches (and cars) have to wait a few mins? Dont know if anyone remembers a visiting team coach reversing over someone at the meadow causing serious injury or worse..... its an accident waiting to happen just to maintain the travel plan This thread did however have the desired effect of getting an announcement at the end of the game so well done

Hey ho, announcement made todays at the game about this , also as a side issue noticed a cyclist on my way driving into the ground that had been knocked off his bike on the percy thrower entrance , whether he was going to game or not unsure, several people had stopped to help put him recovery position before ambulance arrived.
