...he's a very stubborn manager !
I know many on here view Turners return as the second coming but I have to say that so far I am very disappointed in his decision making with regards to reacting to formations and players performances during games. particularly at home.
Both the Rotherham and Torquay games should have seen us beaten, the fact we weren't is down to nothing more than luck. In both games Turner reacted slowly to obvious needs to change things and to make suitable substitutions.
We don't need stubborn we need cute. A manger cute enough to realise he may have got something wrong and have the balls to change it.
Poor management today.

So you didnt notice we changed to 4-5-1 in the 1st half to stop them dominating midfield.A couple of iffy results and here we go again,so what you think top 3 by Nov or sack him

Macintyre on for Leslie after 10 minutes with a switch to 4-4-2 would have seen us get the points.

I feel that the lack of depth in midfield and Torquay's tactics cost us the points. However he does need to address the weakness in central midfield if we have aspirations of promotion.

By and large that worked and we secured a point which didnt look likely at half time. At Wycombe last week he made a bold double substitution which pulled us level and almost won us the game. I dont think he is afraid to make changes in system or players if things arent working

Stop their threat ! weren't we the home team ? The home team that had the benefit of a lead after 6 minutes.
He allowed us to become utterly domintated bya team that were clearly set up with a much clearer, tighter formation than us and did nothing about it for an hour.

but the change to 4 5 1 didn't stop their threat did it, as in the last 15 mins they hit the post and Disley had to head off the line. At home we should let others worry about us, not the other way round.

Not true, you are talking about the substitution, he attempted to change the system from the touchline towards the end of the 1st half and consolidated that change at half time. As a result we had more possesion in the 2nd half. As for playing at home, our record is pretty good, but when the other team is on top, sometimes you just have to cut your losses.

they had a lot pf possesion, but apart from one or 2 half chanced didt threaten us too much, we could have done them some damage aswell

Turner is the messiah and we ARE going to go up under his leadership. Maybe not this year, maybe not next, but it is going to happen.
Actually that's not right, I will be staggered if we don't go up this year such is my confidence.
As for today, Torquay are a good side. Very quick passers of the ball and at this level that is always going to mean a difficult life for their opponents. If they continue playing in that vein then they'll be play-off candidates at least.
A difficult game for Turner and the players, but ultimately we coped with the threat, plus a really, REALLY s**t referee and Lino.
If by 'The Messiah' Jamo, actually means 'somebody who will take us up' then get real, on the evidence so far we have an excellent chance and plenty of optimism that Turner is actually the one who is going to deliver.

One look at my username and you'll know me as a Simpson fan. Though I do believe Turner to be a better judge of player (in terms of signing them) a man-manager, tactically and tactful a lot more than Simpson, I generally believe that comes with experience of having done the job for so much longer. Today though was like the Simpson days revisited in some respects, lack of energy, creativeness and ball retention by the midfield put massive pressure on our back line who all coped well. I'm just very suprised that Turner's answer to the Torquays five in midfield was to match them by putting Robinson back there, and hence isolating Harrold and any attacking threat. I think Today would have been a day for Benji VDB if he was fit. I went to the game thinking we could hammer Torquay, I was maybe egged on even more by talk on Radio Shropshire prematch by saying Town were going to give someone a thrashing soon. - I predicted 4-0 Torquay were a well organised team, in midfield, Mansell is decent, the wingers were quick, but surely there not the superior team in this division? Do we miss McAllister? - his efforts have impressed me, but I thought he did well to get player of the month, perhaps its him that key, he goes about his business quietly, almost Mark Taylor like? that said I think McIntyre is an able deputy, we were better with him today for the last 20mins. what McIntyre brings is pace and a hard tackle, his passing is generally a bit poorer than McAllister, though McIntyre is physically bigger. it was just very conservative from Turner today which upset me, I'd have had McIntyre in from the start, Leslie is not a central midfielder, let alone a defensive one, Simpson used to fall for this trick a lot. You'd see Disley out of position (left wing) with Dunfield battling for the ball with Leslie running like a headless chicken, with a completely shot Lewis Neal in for good measure, no wonder Dunfield (or murray) always had to smash the ball upfield to Hibbert. This had an affect across the middle four, Disley wasn't as creative, Wright I thought gave up at times. Ainsworth was quiet but was probably the best of the four. what was also negative was that we only made the one sub, I thought today (or its now techincally yesterday:) ) we could have used Lewis Neal, is the one thing he can do is run with the ball, at good pace? - not many were doing that today. I final cringe worhty note, I am a self confessed Dean Holden fan. But I'm sure 'Deano' has played for some of his career in midfield, I assume Defensive. wouldn't even he have been an option today? - but no he's sitting on the bench for one of our main rivals. Turner is a damm good manager, I like the bloke, but he is also very human, he got today wrong, in an almost Simpson like way

Here we go, I wondered how long it would be before the moaners would raise their heads and start getting on GT's back. They crusified Peters and Simpson and now they have started on GT. If you want success at this club, leave the guy alone and let him get on with his job.

I think the only real criticism of GT is that he didn't replace Leslie half-way through the first half.
I think we needed McIntyre to add a bit of bite and added work-rate.
Otherwise credit GT for adapting the system and gaining a point. It was important that we didn't lose after our travails on the road.
Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and say that on the day the opposition were better at passing, ball retention and more fluid.

The initial team selection in midfield was poor today. Perhaps he felt Leslie deserved a chance in the centre. The change should have happened earlier but he tried something and it never came off. Made a mistake tactically today but it happens let's move on.

Playing as we do with 2 wingers means that the central midfield pairing have to be a bit special and sadly ours are not.
Back four and the forward line cannot be faulted this season, apart from the odd rash challenge in the box, but midfield is now our downfall and we do not have the quality in there to utilise our wingers properly by switching play, or to stop us being overrun at times.

the doom and gloom on here at times is like the grumpy old sods who sit by me in block 14. all i heard yesterday was the bubble has burst, turner is too old, he needs more signings, we will do well to fight off relegation. Yesterday Torquay were better as the manager got it right. Turner with his options thought a point was better than losing. i was disappointed with this but he was honest about it in the interview after. i dont think he had the options on the bench to change it too much. Macca i believe should have been on earlier, but disley let us down yesterday as did wright and ainsworth. the last couple of games have shown us how much we miss mcallister and we need a plan b when he is not around. Whether its promotion, or play offs or neither for 75% of the time im enjoying the football which is a 74% increase from simpson last year! lets see where we are at xmas, and if it top 8 at that point im happy

I didn't say anything at the beginning because i'd be slated as this Turner bandwagon is massive. Nothing he does is wrong, nothing is his fault! Blah blah. I was excited when I heard he was appointed and then even more so when i heard the signings he had made. We had a quality start to the season with a new outfit that were raring to go and give everything they've got. But its slowly falling apart. We are not the automatic promotion side everyone is branding us. If we do go up, its going to be through Wembley. Thuere are far better sides in this division than us.
However, Turner is a good manager, and I do believe he can get us out of this division, its just a tad hard to believe it when he failed with Hairyfuddddd.

How did he fail with Hereford, Nath? He them out of this division a few years ago (granted they came straight back down) and last year they only struggled until he started back up as manager.

Unless he rode upon an Ass up Oteley Road which was paved with olive branches , he is not technically The Messiah ,
BUT
He has resurrected our club from the dead so I am having second thoughts . If only he can heal our injured players instantly .....................

Personally i wouldn`t say its falling apart! Far from it, Only in october and in a healthy position in the league! We cant expect to be on top or top 3 for all 46 games. Bit of a sticky patch thats all it is im sure

Somehow I doubt the likes of our injured players would have had any bearing on yesterdays result.
Just not enough either tackes or guile in the centre of midfield, though the thought of the Dutchman running at Branston fron the centre of midfield may have led to perhaps an enforced change in the Torquay ramks.
