Correct me if you think I'm wrong, but I've never been this guy's greatest fan.
He shows the occastional flash of brilliance, like a couple of goals last season and a classy touch here and there...but otherwise he is average at best and certainly, on the whole, won't be an impact sub.
Lionel and Wright are undoubtedly great players, but I worry about the backup.

Average is being kind. Very frustrating player! Can rarely do something brilliant but to often it to weak, extreamly poor at defending and gives the ball away far to easy! He was at fault for the goal tonight, letting there lad come inside, leslie didnt even attempt to challenge him.

One of the best footballers at the club in my opinion. Yes he can frustrate. Yes he's inconsistent. He plays with a great awareness of those around him and often can pick out a killer pass. I like him. I can see why he's unlikely to oust the two wingers at the moment but more than happy to have him as back up. And we were far more of a threat at Vale Park with Leslie in the side than Ainsworth. Lionel also frustrates but as he has pace to burn and excites, he's always likely to be a fans doyen over Steven Leslie. Steve unfortunately, is one of those players for whom scapegoat is a tag that often accompanies his name

I just don't get why Lewis Neal isn't ahead of Leslie in the pecking order. Neal came on last night and showed some great touches and deliveries. As for Leslie, not good enough I'm afraid, to weak, not much pace and doesn't want to tackle. Compared to Vale are bench looked very poor, Dodds and J Johnson on there bench and I'd take those two in are starting line up anyday. Maybe time for a loan signing GT?

Leslie is not as good as Ainsworth or Wright in my opinion, and I'm sure most agree with me. But we're blessed at this level to have two wingers of their quality and Leslie and Neal are both more than capable back-ups, though I would worry if we were without both Ainsworth and Wright. I disagree with the person who said he isn't an effective impact sub, he is capable of producing one moment of magic, a flash of brilliance which makes him the perfect substitution to bring on in my opinion. Did he not come close to scoring last night aswell?

For those who think Leslie is good enough ask yourself this.Do you think he is good enough to play in league1?
Most of our first team are good enough for league one but he aint. I want to see town set high standards but with him in thew squad there is no chance. Tbf i have honestly seen better players in the sunday league prem and if you dont belive me go and look for yourselves.

Heavenly we understand you don't like Leslie but you don't need to try and convince everyone else not to like him. It's a bit embarassing really. We can make our own opinions, and mine is that he is an effective squad player

You are so wrong it is not that i dont like him.He does try and most games he gives 100% but that is still not good enough if this club wants to move forward we need a better standard of player.

Frustrating player, can be brilliant one moment (three 50+ yard balls in last two games landed on a sixpence) then fails to find a pass of 5 yards or as last night tackles himself on the byline and loses possesion.
He is unpredictable and probably needs a run in the team which he is unlikely to get with Wright and Ainsowrth ahead of him. Add VDB in to the mix and its not a bad back up.

I dont have their names Jonah but there is a lad that plays for Meole on a sunday that is pure class and he slipped through the net.Same goes for a lad that plays for the rock on a saturday. The only thing that is missing is their fitness.

Whether you like Leslie or not , the fact is VERY CLEAR ...............he made the mistake which gave them their goal ! Every player will make mistakes but are we going to use it to pillory them everytime. You could argue last night that, as on saturday, the scorer was not closed down very effectively either. BTW Heavenly it might have escaped your notice that we are not in L1 so that question is irrelevant for the time being. You can only guess at how players will step up or not. The problem for Leslie is that - (1) I'm not sure he or anyone knows what his best postion is (2) that he rarely gets a run of 7/8 games and is nearly always the first to be dropped. I doubt that breeds confidence. Please let's not turn Leslie into a target for the rest of season. We might just have to live with the fact that he'll produce moments of brilliance that few players in our squad are capable of along with moments of farce.

Inconsistent to ridiculous proportions but has got more than enough to be a valued squad member at this level and is going to have an important role to play this term.

I quite like Leslie though I admit he's a frustrating player to watch at times, However I wasn't there last night, against Northampton he impressed me
He's not a central midfield and so his only position is out wide, I'd still prefer Ainsworth and Wright at the moment, though I do think Lewis Neal should perhaps get first chance next time
I wander if Leslie's contract will be renewed next year, i'd imagine he'd be a decent signing for most league 2 sides

He might need a run of games but he's had plenty of chances to establish himself and not taken them. He's an 8/10 or a 4/10 and that's why he'll probably only ever be an occasional starter or a sub with us. If he could produce a reliable 6 or 7/10 most games he'd be in, because he's undoubtedly skilful. But he never has and I doubt he ever will for us. Maybe he's one of those players that needs to move on to progress - we've had a few lately!
In the meantime, he's part of our squad and I'll support him.
By the way Heavenly, what sort of opponents are these Sunday League class acts performing against? Do they do that week after week? There's usually a good reason why pros are pros and the rest in the Sundays.

some of his work is great, but too often its mediocre at best.

Im not saying he is great, but come on guys, give the lad a break. He's a great squad player, capable of picking a pass or scoring a wonder goal - he cuts in well and his left foot crosses can be just brilliant (always remember wycombe away on sky for one example)
The inconsistency arguement isn't a good one IMO, any player that can play consistently brilliant is in the premiership, so we can't expect that from him. Ainsworth and Wright can be inconsistent but admittedly - with more experience on their side - to a lesser extent. Therefore Leslie probably never will be our main man but he can certainly hack it as this level.
