Let me guess, this is all Benitez's fault isn't it? It sure is his fault he had the budget to keep them in the top 4 last season and blew it. The club are now screwed and i doubt they will make the top 4 or CL for a few years. Same goes for man utd. so you don't think Man Utd will finish in the top 4 ?

The club are now screwed and i doubt they will make the top 4 or CL for a few years. Same goes for man utd. Last season, Liverpool made a profit on transfers, they did this season as well, and have done for about the last four seasons. So, in effect, Liverpool are operating with a transfer budget of 0, which means other teams were always going to catch them up in the end, now they are just mid-table obscurity. But not quite sure what the point you made has to do with last nights defeat, there was a semi-strong tem out there, and they had TWO shots on target all game. TWO. We had more than that against Northampton after 5 mins, and one of the best sides in the country had two in 90 minutes. This was their line-up Jones
Kelly-Kryiakos-Agger-Wilson
Pacheco-Lucas-Spearing-Jovanovic
N'Gog-Babel The tactics are all wrong from Hodgson, this stupid sit-back, invite the pressure, long balls up to the top, ridiculously late substitutions. I actually believe Benitez would have been a better option, I expect I'm in the minority as everyone buys into the "nice man, everyone's friend Roy Hodgson", that he comes across as in the media

I cant see why Fergy is playing scholes and giggs at the same time tbh i can understand if he plays one or the other. Is Carrick injured as i cant understand why he aint playing to many games and the same goes for Park.

As the part time Liverpool fan that I am, there is no way that any Liverpool fan cant say that result hurt last night. Shocking performance, and a gamble that liverpool dont have the squad depth to undertake.
But theres more to it than that.... Roy has to play a load of kids and reserves because frankley other than a half decent starting 11 there is a week ass squad there, which a remininent of having cut all Rafa dead wood, and not really replaced them, and because of the fiancial problems at the club, and the overwhelming sense of crisis that its caused (alongside the bad start its doubled) .
If the mess at the top can be sorted befor Jan, and some stabilty put in place, alongside some strengthening, then I feel liverpool will be top 8, without, the doom mongers predicting a bottom half finish could well be right. Cant see a higher finish that 6th to 8th
Its a shame for the young lads of liverpool last night mind, by all accounts some of the English lads, played ok and might have a future, but some of Mobeys commentry last night was spot on - Bablel, and Pancho (is it?) were a joke....
Dont think it would be time to panic yet, two "easy" home games and 6 points would right a few wrongs, and 2 more weeks of boardroom battles and who knows what state the club is in come October.
And lets be honest EVEN after this start, to count Liverpool, (a team with a strong enough first 11 to push Arsenal and Man U close already this season) out winning the FA cup, or even have a go in Europe again would be wrong... if they can be shocked like last night they can also shock bigger team (and there are a few bigger teams that Liverpool at the moment). Every fan has to belive they have a shout despite the last few results (as town fans we stilled belived we could do Everton despite the results of the previous few weeks???)
Most happy must be Chealsea and Man City, the result all the press away from there limp exits!
Put your money on a Man U - Arse final!

Posters of a certain vintage will remember Liverpool dominating the 1st Division and Europe.
I remember fondly listening to the radio in the 70s as they on and beat the cream of Europe with largely British players.
Shame to see them fall so low but it goes to prove you have to develop and buy successfully to remain up there.
Cant see them going anywhere but mid table this term and frankly they are further from success now than when the last two managers and chairmen arrived.
Be interesting to see how the fans tolerate further failures.
I was also fortunate enough to see St Etienne v Liverpool on a school exchange trip in 1977 !

No idea about Newcastle but all the other three teams in those ties (just like Liverpool) fielded weakened sides. Manchester made 11 changes from their side at the weekend. I'm honestly surprised to hear that you think Liverpool fans would be hurt by that result last night. I can only think that the one thing that could possibly gripe would be the club you support not taking a competition as seriously as you as a supporter does. As a supporter can really take anything away from the game considering who was playing? I’m not taking anything away from Northampton, it’s a great result but let’s be honest…it was Liverpool’s second string by a long way and was far from their best eleven. So I don’t think what happened on the pitch is that ‘great’ an upset… I’d have thought most supporters of these clubs who play weakened sides would have come around to the risks by now and would be fully prepared as to when it might not come off…

I think the hurt come from the result being the top of a big problem, and despite the averageness of the reserves feilded (only three kids started) they got knocked out, at home to a team 17th in League 2.....thats painfull to take as a fan regardless of the team you put out...

Well now Valencia is out for the season it will probably be a straight swap for Park (very energetic and will work hard) on the right in most games. Scholes is still class and Carrick did have an injury at the start of the season but don't know whether he's fit again though.

In defence to the scousers Shrewsbury are also better than man u Liverpool and Northampton seem to be the same standard Town won 3-1 against one of them whereas united only just scraped a 3-2

congratulations to the cobblers. so happy for them. i think teams like liverpool should do their homework and show sides like northampton a bit more respect. in all fairness no "big" teams seem to care about the carling cup until the semi's. but it's nice to see a good team gt knocked out by the lower league teams

I don't know what the big fuss is about, all mid-table Premiership teams suffer a cup upset now and again.

Further more, while it wasn't liverpool's first team a lot of those players have played a lot of premiership games this season - Agger, Lucas, Jovanovich and N'gog have all started several times. Added to that Kyriakos and Babel are internationals, as is reserve keeper Brad Jones - who was middlesbrough's first choice in the premier league and championship. Also in fairness, one of liverpool's least experienced players who came on as a sub was Jonjo Shelvey - who they signed last season from 1st division Charlton (i.e. a player player in one league above Northampton). And bearing in mind liverpool were at home and actually the lead, I'd say that makes it a big big shock! Hodgson doesn't sound very happy anyway with several of the expensive liverpool players : news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/league_cup/9025262.stm

If he had of been on Saturday and watched that Northampton performance I think he'd of made even more changes and the result could of been a lot worse. Does anyone know if there was representation from Liverpool at the game on Saturday?

My God (oops ) Aren't you a strange one. I've ready several of your posts today and there does seem to be a slight hint of paranoia about you. Such obvious angst is not good for you and should not go untreated. I have a friend; a Psychiatrist, who specialises in disorders such as your own. He's a bit pricy but I'm sure I can arrange a discount for such a needy case.
