I know our webmaster is said to be very 'busy' but is anyone else puzzled by the amount of coverage Sundays game is getting on ShrewsWeb?
If I gave a toss I'd log onto the FA womens site!
Farce, advertise it yes but why the **** all this coverage!? Boring!

Yes you are right, I think it a shambles that an international is being staged at our stadium, which we want to fill for it, and the club have the audacity to go and try to make an event of it.
Shame on them: I would make them play it at night with the lights out.

Agreed SSS, what a shambles by STFC. Where do we go from here?

Thing is I personally dont rate Womens Football much higher than Sunday League Football, why do I care?
I'm a Shrewsbury Town fan and log onto the site for SHREWSBURY TOWN related news, not England womens news.
If Mr Whitfield had so much time to cover the England game why not update the club shop instead?
Baffled totally puzzled!

This could go on for a while... Makes a change from your match threads tho Ned surelly?! Yeah, instead we're back to your boring moaning. Do you have a disorder or something? Where you can't stand to be happy about the way things are going at the club? Or do you just enjoy making other people suffer from your ridiculously pathetic ways?

Bore off Ned, i'm VERY happy with Mr Turner and the onfield events, VERY HAPPY. However just don't get the whole big thing about this womens game, why don't you mooch over to the Cardiff board if I moan too much for you? Very rare I moan now!

Its not a sexist post (far from it!) however I watched womens European Championships in 2005 (?) and the standard was terrible. Women's football is miles ahead of "Sunday League Standard" as you put it. Having been involved in the women's game, I was shocked at just how good the standard was. I used to dismiss the game like you are, but having got involved in it, and also watching several games, most of which are the ones the club have staged, I changed my mind and realised that the standard is nowhere near as bad as what some people dismiss it to be. If you give things a chance, you may discover something new about them, but I suppose that is not in your nature.

However do you personally think the womens game is getting too much coverage on ShrewsWeb? No, not really. I am sure the relevant coverage of Gillingham vs Shrewsbury will appear as normal. And, when we have the honour of staging an International, of whatever level, we should promote it as much as possible, and provide coverage for the game. Who knows, it may have been a VERY SLOW news week at the Meadow, with hardly anything to report, hence why it appears there is loads of England Women coverage. Like I say, you can bet your bottom dollar that the coverage of England Women will not be replacing the coverage of Gills v Shrews.

You are now, but will you in four or five months if we're not doing well? Will you if we lose tomorrow? Will you if we lose a couple of derbys? Will you if players like Wright, Sadler and Raven leave in January? Will you if We get beat by a non-league team in the FA Cup 1st Round?

2 out of the 7 stories currently on the Shrewsweb home page relate to the England game. Not hard to differentiate away from them is it?

Almost certainly those stories are written by the FA and the club host them on their website as part of winning the rights to stage the match.
The English women's team is clearly a fairly important sporting event, supported by the following:
- The game is being shown live on national terrestrial TV - England women hold the record for the record crowd at the Meadow
Stories appear for at max a couple of week period in relation to this event.
All in all, a quite bizarre theory from you and I really question my own sanity in taking a couple of minutes to reply!!

My argument is Ant if I wanted Womens Football News I'd log onto the FA Womens Site not the Shrewsbury Town one.

Added to Ant's reply, could a possible reason be that Town stand to earn some money from this event and thus the more that attend the better financially?
If not gate receipts, then advertising, increased margins on the concourses etc

Thinking like a cold hearted businessman the benefits of us promoting the game are clear - full ground means positive coverage of Town and GM in media, on TV (future TV games), and also young fans getting hooked on the game coming to the next Town game. We must also benefit financially from attendance somehow, whether it be caterers, staff getting paid, club shop etc. The question should be is it being promoted enough?
