Radio 5 are reporting that apparently he won't fly to Switzerland today because of something in the NOTW?
What's it reported?

I think they are reporting he had to come clean to his Mrs. yesterday about getting up to no good whilst he wife was pregnant. Thats why my good lady says anyhows...it's all over a fair few Sunday papers apparently...
So is this the reason he wasn't himself (on the pitch) during the World Cup...

Always amazes me how footballers think they can go round cheating on their partners in this day and age and not to expect to be found, they are world famous celebrities.
I suppose a relationship is a different matter but I dont think you can be too surprised when a call girl sells her story.

It makes one wonder now what the injunctions that have been put in place by 5 premiership footballers are hiding?

He epitomises everything I dislike about premiership football and premiership footballers. I know that for every Rooney, Gerrard, Barton, Cole etc there is Scholes or Neville but every week seems to bring new revelations. Too few role models left these days unfortunately. Our children are left to idolise some of the most morally repugnant individuals in society today.
Rooney will travel to Switzerland. Great news for the Swiss. Rooney obviously lets the car crash which is his private life affect him heavily on the pitch. Leaving him out of the squad/starting eleven can only help Englands cause.

Haven't read the article and don't particularly want to but, unless he's committed a crime or some similar outrage, I don't think it makes any difference to anything.
Is it any more than having sex with someone other than his wife? If so, that's a serious matter for them and nothing at all to do with the rest of us. Does that make a "car crash" of his private life that demands he be dropped by England? Not at all.

My point is that he carries his self made problems onto the pitch and these effect his normally excellent performances. It's been alluded to that is poor WC was down 'difficulties' in his private life and I think we can all accept that. On this basis I would expect Rooney, if selected, not to be at his best and would fully expect Fabio to be considering leaving him out for football reasons only.

Why would leaving him out of the team aid England's cause, he would have been aware on Friday that this report was coming out but was still involved in each of the goals and gave his performance for a long time.

Don't really care who he's slept with but you have to say the current England team don't exactly ooze class or dignity do they? In fact a lot of them come across (maybe wrongly) as pretty unlikeable.

Glad someone has the balls to stand up and say what needs to be said. Rooney is a role model to our children, and in his position I expect him to behave accordingly, not get himself plastered over the pages of our newspapers on a regular basis. If it means he loses his England place, well ,so be it. Did'nt see him pulling up many trees at the World Cup, so no great lose there. Playing for your country brings with it great responsibilities, more so off the pitch than on. If he can't raise his game to cope with both areas, time we looked elsewhere.

If you want the England team made up of the 12 disciples then go ahead and follow your advice. If you want the best footballers to give us the chance to have just some chance of succes at international level then lets pick the best players and accept them for what they are, flawed, weak and impressionable young men who are as capable of getting things wrong as we all are. Gets on my goat when people bang on about role model this, role model that. Make your own bloody mind up and form your own morals and stick to them, just don't force them on others like some modern day evangelist.

Brilliant reply Jamo Footballers are just human beings, just like everyone else. They all go through good time and bad times. Suffer things like depression, have family problems and do things that they may possibly regret afterwards. No twenty something working at the post office or a factory or office is subjected to such scrutiny by the moral high.

Is anyone else concerned how much Rooney seems to smoke? We would all probably be alarmed if we ever found out the number of Premier League players who do smoke, Ashley Cole was snapped puffing away whilst on holiday in LA just after the world cup, Paul Ince and Gazza were well known smokers, although I think Gazza never up smoking until quite late on in his career, maybe not until he joined Lazio at least....

I don't really care about footballers lives, what they do with it is their own business and people that latch onto it need to get a different interest. However, their off-field actions may affect them on-field and also, I think its about time some manager had the balls to drop the big names and introduce smaller players who will play their hearts out. These 'best' footballers as you call them have not done anything in any competition since 1990 really ... So for me, i'd rather see the big names dropped.

The people who consume this sensationalism of celebrity pumped out by organs like the NOTW are equally to blame. It should be of no interest to anyone what people do with their private lives. The NOTW should stick to proper investigative journalism like they uncovered over the cricket betting scandal.
I just wish people would stop reading this Rooney type junk and then these "pillars" of the press would soon stop publishing it.

Is anyone else concerned how much Rooney seems to smoke? I am surprised these days that a professional footballer is allowed to smoke given how much care is taken over their fitness and diet and so on. We have moved along way from the days of Dennis Law, who used to have two cigarettes at half time, but obviously not as far as I thought.

Got a feeling that Sir Alex hasn't sanctioned this in any way! SAF needs to get a grip of the lad double quick.

As I've heard a few times on 6-0-6 recently, and the most important role models are parents. Footballers don't sign up to be role models to anyone, it's not part of their contracts that they have to behave at all times in case journalists follow them around and decide to report on their activities. And yet again this is another kiss and tell story from some fame wannabe. Is there any proof in this, or is it just slanderous again. And again you've got to say what on earth is this rag doing publishing this story now. obviously they couldn't wait until another time, it had to be just before the most difficult and important england match of the next 2 years, it couldn't be next weekend when england aren't playing - fantastic stuff for a paper that promotes itself so much for it's football coverage.
