Never started one before ...
Been a brilliant day today, started off kind've early for the B&A game. Reds won 3-1. Good fun, non-serious game and was nice to meet people from here.
Onto the game, Neal MOM for me, quality saves throughout.
Raven was ok, looked very shakey again, wasn't always going in for the ball but had some good play. Sharps held of Le Fondre very well and was good in the air against Elliot. Saddler had some cracking runs and crosses (thiink he set up Ainsworth) and made some good challenges.
Ainsworth, scored a goal, looked very stiff and not fully fit but was ok. Disley muscled and tackled in midfield, quality first half although was looking for fouls and going down too easily. McCallister had a very good game, challenging throughout, second half he was our main player (behind Neil). Wright just ran and ran and ran, I take back what i said at the start of the season. We need to sign him up!
Harrold and Robinson did a decent enough job up top. Cracking movement and had good games.
1st half was brill, 2nd half Rotherham were far better, we were lucky Le Fondre had a poor finish today! They showed us how hard it will be against the big clubs, disappointing 2nd half, but for a team that came 12th last season, beating one of the best teams in the league is an accomplishment. So well done Town. Another 3 points. Lets hope this continues!

I was really pleased for chris neale, he has waited a long time for a run in the team and now he is looking the part
i wwould have had Kev McIntyre on earlier in place of McAllister, who gave it away a lot, but pleased to hang on for the 3 points

First half we were at our attacking best...... Second half we were tired looking and defensive..... a win like that feel so good...
word to Sherriff really growing into the season and the back 4 are as solid as I have seen at the club for a long time.
Though the weakest player today was Disley, the burst for the goal aside, he really stuggled... really needs a good 90.....
all in all though the record shows 3 points and top of the league... cant really complain can we...

wow, what a relief and what a defence we had today. Great first half, the goal was brilliant - fed up of those on the radio that said it was scrappy.
Rotherham looked a good team, but keeping ALF to long range shots like we did was a credit too us. MOM is between Neal and Wright, Neal making some great saves, but not for a long while have I seen such a good wing display down the meadow like Mr. Wrights today, a class player who picks all the right passes.

Chris Neal Man of the Match, closely followed by SCS who kept Le Fondra at bay for most of the game, Raven was good also, Sharps too, but got out of jail at the end with that dodgy back pass, McAllister got found out today and let Disley and a few other down with some poor passing, Wright kept going well,

We should of killed that game off 1st half and not have to have had to battle for our lives in the last 20 mins. Plus points from today we had another clean sheet and our defence never stop working. Welldone to Chris neal and MOM for me was Wright by a country mile.

Thought we played well within ourselves in the first half, Harrold won a fair amount upfront, Wright looked different class and Ainsworth looked very dangerous, maybe ab it of complacency slipped in as the half wore on in the manner in which we casually gave the ball away.
Second half I thought Rotherham stepped it up, control of midfield and forced us back. Was a bit bemused by Lefondre's never ending shoot onsight policy, talk about trying to pluck the golden ticket out of thin air...
Some great blocking, Neil did well, but for me Wright was MOM. Looked dangerous whenever he had the ball, was busy and if he didn't beat his man looked to retain posession. Liked his cut in and shot in the second half.

For a good part of the first half we were all over them. A couple of good low crosses could have easily been 2-0.
No doubt about it, we got battered in the second half by a throughly decent team, and kept them from scoring. Sometimes you just have to do that. Our back 4 and the keeper did well.
Agreed about Wright MOM: thought he was outstanding.
A great game of football to watch too: both teams passed it about a bit, and wiley players like Ellison and Harrold getting involved while skillful players like Ainsworth & Le Fondre brought a different dimension.

I thought a bit of tiredness crept in second half. We've played a lot of games already. We defended way too deep. Our passing was the worst I've seen all season. But, if you can play well below your best and still win.....
I know he gets goals, but I've never been very impressed by Le Fondle.

Good display first half, solid defensive performance in the second. Though in the first half it was pretty much even with us looking more dangerous around the box. The goal was a product of great football down the left, with Ainsworth with the tidy finish at he back. One criticism of us in the first half was the lack of clear cut chances created for all the football we had around there box; we gave the ball away far to cheaply in the centre, Disley a slow starter again, but got better as the game went on.
Second half we were being dominated all over the park and had to sit back and soak the pressure up. Defensively today we were excellent, throwing bodies in front of the ball and making crucial blocks. The back four was excellent again today, SCS and Sharps kept ALF out all game. Neal had a mixed second half, keeping us in the game at the end, but there were still a few fumbles, that could have been costly.
Good team display today, Harrold will get stick for not winning everything, but he worked his socks off and got nothing from a useless Mr Kettle, as per usual!
Keep the run going Salop, bring on the Gills!

1st half we were superb, deserved a 1-0 lead and felt we could have had 2. We played the ball well and passed it around nicely. 2nd half Rotherham came out more, the last 20 minutes or so were nail biting, credit goes to Chris Neal and our defence were were solid, and Neal made some superb saves, prefer him to Smithy atm. We defended well but felt we could have done better when we had possesion. Mark Wright was fantastic today always felt we could do something when he had posession, hope we can extend his loan or better still sign him up. Ainsworth had a good game, nice to see him get on the scoresheet. Well done Town, top of the league, roll on Gillingham

Good first half, kept Rotherham relying on long range shoots,( Sharps and SCS excellent,) although McAllister tended to give the ball away to easily on occassions. The build up to the goal was pure class, and well put away by Ainsworth. I thought the chance was not as easy as it looked. We should have capitalised on our superiority and maybe gone in at least 2-0 up. Robinson chased everything, but tends to be a bit greedy and is not always aware of other players who are in better goal scoring positions than himself. Rotherham looked there for the taking, you could see the apprehension on their faces, and some were blowing hard after 20 mins or so. Not surprising considering the wide players were giving them a right chasing. Second half, different game. They the game to us, not helped by some aimless and hurried clearances by our defence. Having said that, the defence stood firm and Neale made one or two good saves. His handling is not 100%, but hopefully this game will improve his confidence no end. McAllister and Ainsworth were obviously not fully fit and had to come off before the end. McIntyre came on and plugged the gaps, but VDB. He,s a willing lad, but his control is poor, as is his awareness. I don,t think he knew if he was to play wide right or up with Harrold. In the end he did neither. Sorry, but if we are to progress we need better. All in all, not one of our better overall displays, but a good team effort to see us take three points. If i was a Rotherham fan i would be disappointed we did'nt take a point. Last season this is a game we would have lost. Five games gone, top of the League and averaging 2.6 points a game can't be bad.

Great 1st half display, Rotherham were never in the game, and at half time there was only ever going to be one possible outcome. All credit to Rotherham for the way they turned the game around, we lost the midfield battle which put our defence under constant pressure for long periods. I thought the ref was having a decent game until the last 15 minutes, pathetic booking for Wright

I thought Neal made more than one or two saves though? - I think I lost count at seven personally Benji had one of his poorer Cameo's today, but made an important block near the end, how much he knew about it am not sure, I thought Ainsworth started to struggle in the 2nd half with his injury and was suprised he stayed on for so long Sherriff, was fantastic, won everything in the air, I think we saw the best of Raven in the 2nd half also

The booking should not be rescended. The Ref told Wright to hurry up as he was 15 yards from the corner. Wright jogged slower than a normal walk then proceeded to walk again before another slow jog.
The Ref rightly booked Wright before either had noticed the Linesmans flag for the sub. Wright was time wasteing, seeing the sub as the card came out he tried to use that as an excuse.

What was encouraging about that defensive performance was that we limited them to long range efforts, lots of them, but long range. It seemed frantic at times, but they didn't breach the back four.
I stand to be corrected, but I only remember one effort from inside the box and that was because the ball bounced to them off one of our players.
Though we didn't trouble them so much in the second half I thought the Rotherham back four were pretty poor.

I have to agree with Windsor Our time wasting was pretty obvious in the last 10 mins - Neal could easily have got booked as well. I know they would have done it if they were 1-0 up, and pretty much all teams do it, but I still don't like it

Cliched game of two halves. First half we could have been more than 1-0 up and comfortable. Second half Rotherham did more than enough to get a point and we were fortunate to hang on though. Neal and the defence did pretty well but we were getting deeper and deeper.
few random thoughts on individuals: - McAllister was nowhere near the standard of the last few games and gave the ball away far too often. - Ainsworth probably should have been replaced earlier in the second - didn't seem fit. - Felt sorry for Leslie must be thinking that he'll get replaced at the first opportunity whatever he does. - Not sure about BvDB being pushed up front. - Wright was superb again

What did anyone think of the off side decision late on against Ainsworth. My lad is sure he timed his run to perfection and was on side! Should have been 2 - 0.

Excellent defensive performance. Chris Neal has shown to many of us who doubted him, myself included, that he is a top class goalkeeper. Ian Sharps and Shane were brilliant in front of him as well. Sadler and Raven did well at the back, as well as supporting the Wingers well. Ainsworth was ok, out in a good shift. However, he didn't look fit to me. Wright was brilliant, again. In the second half, he was the only player I could really see being a threat for us. McAllister playing good, but not fantastic. Gave the ball away a few times, but worked hard and helped the team. Disley was brilliant IMO, up there with Neal. I said a few weeks ago that I thought he'd be a crucial player for us this season, and I stll think that. Robinson played well, put pressure on their defence well. Him and Harrold have a great understanding, and he also had a good game. I would of liked to have seen Bright get a run-out, but hopefully he'll get twenty minutes at Gillingham next week. All in all, a great day - especially after the B&A game! Well done Town

Agree we should have been 2 or 3 up at the half. Some quite outstanding football on display, a good tempo and the fullbacks from ooop north were rattled. We really must capatalise in periods like this against the best teams to avoid the second half onslaught.
I thought the Rotherham formation of the two lads behind le Fondre caused us all sorts of problems and after Elliot went off they got better. Bringing McIntyre into a 3 man centre mid was a bit late, but absolutely necessary as Disley and McAllister were being overrun.
A great earned win, some fantastic saves by Neal today who did everything pretty bloody well. Wright was again very very good, and I was impressed with the communication and spirit between all players.
Not entirely sure about Robinson. Doesnt look like he can last 90mins, and was never really in the game, not linking with Harrold who got sod all from the ref after being fouled for 90mins.
Just the type of gritty 1-0 win you need after starting out so well. I have no doubt last season would have seen us capitulate under those circumstances.
