Depends on your criteria but lots of recent strikers come to mind - Cureton, Riza, Ashekodi, Nicholson and Sheron for starters. Denny and Hogg in midfield. Defenders are harder to think of - I wouldn't include Luke Jones for example as I thought he did well enough in the shortish time he was here.

I was going to say Darren Simpkin, but I'll NEVER forget him.

Graham Worsely or Naylor, both right backs, both capable of scoring a 4/10 every week ( at their peak) and both players i wish i could forget but can't.

GK Scott Cooksey
DF Kevin Collins, Lee Lawrence, Gavin Cadwallader, Andy Thompson
MF Jay Denny, Dean Peer, David Hunt, Emeka Nwadike
FW Simon Sturridge, Chris Murphy
Not a slur on any of these players, as there are some pretty decent players amongst that XI, but for whatever reason they never really hit it off at Town.

Lee Lawrence? He was only in on loan and did a good job.
I wouldn't include David Hunt either. I can see what you mean but he's more one that got away for me.
Sorvel & Sedgemore seem harsh choices too. I must be getting soft.

John Gayle, Remember him? He couldn't score to save his life. Also, Dean Craven!

Sorvel & Sedgemore seem harsh choices too. I must be getting soft. I don't necessarily mean the players are bad in the XI I listed, more they didn't become established, memorable players. Like you say, perhaps ones that got away! I'm with you, I thought Lee Lawrence was an awesome player when he was here, same with Hunt, a good midfielder who with injuries etc, never really settled into a run of games.

The list could be endless. A couple I remember: Lee Taylor - sounded like we picked him up from the South London sunday league, looked great for a spell on the wing, somehow ended up a centre back under Jake. Simkin - 20k signing from Wolves and according to Fred Davies after a couple of games the 'boy is lacking some basic technical skills' (then why did we sign him). According to soccerbase he was with us for 4 years which suggests we gave him a 4 year deal ) I am sure that are a few Jock McSporran from the McNeil era, to offset the occassional Micky Thomas or Dougie Bell.

Thomas Nielsen owd lad never quite grasped the english language telling a ref to f@@k off in a reserve game haha legend. Nick "blobby" Brookman a midfielder from the early 90s dnt think he played in the first team but looked skillful as hell in the ressies.

Bob Wardle, swopped him for Big Oggy at Liverpool, never heard of him again, and he was a good keeper, anyone know where he ended up?
