Totally cr@p at getting my point accross today - not intending to make people angry....... so Ive established fans 'in general' would / are willing to pay for a more prestigious game BVS - I think it is disgraceful when some clubs, especially away ones charge crazy amount for kids. In my opinion Kids should be a token gesture of say £1 with adults paying normal admission for games that are not sell outs - get bums on seats. I'll put it another way - the faithful few will ALWAYS turn up - be it Conference or Championship. We have a fan base of about 10,000 of which each game 4,500 - 5,000 currently attend home games. What I was trying to get over was that if entrance was free, I don't think you would get a full house and another 10,000 locked out of the stadium. (exaggerating the example to make the point). And I also feel the total gate receipts would be far less if they charged £13 instead of £18 because there would not be the increase in numbers to make it financially viable and reach the break even figure. Just to clear up fans bases according to the club is a bit more than you stated at just over 14,900 as a base with around 5,100 home fans on average that turn up each home game.

Not very consistent from STFC here, they didnt seem to object to the free admission offer from Wycombe a couple of years back? I remember my one friend who was going purely because it was free entry, I must admit I did scoff at his intentions as I wouldnt have gone if I had to pay, so I didnt intend to go for free either just for a low key JPT game, we then go on to win 7-0 of course! I dont like the way STFC are going at the moment, they are becoming right greedy little bleeders.

I think it is a bit naughty by Oldham - would they have proposed this if they were playing near neighbours Rochdale - I doubt it Very few town fans will go even if free Charging £5 seems a fair compromise As for the delay over Stoke tickets

If this is true Oldham have plenty to gain from that (programme sales, food, club shop etc) but Town get nothing out of it. £5 or so is fair enough so both teams have something to take home.

Wouldn't we also have to pay for a meal somewhere for the players, appearance money and maybe there win bonus Not saying it shouldn't be cheaper though I'd be genuinely interested to know what the cost would be. I know the club will not say as it's a private business matter - but a ball park would be nice! We have got room for 3 players and their kit bags in our 10 years old car. We will make extra rolls for the journey to share with them. We are having to book time off work so we can head off as early as they want. Now if we can find another 20 or so seats in cars we can save the club a few more quid. The win bonus can be paid by charging us the full price for the next round. The sooner we leave Gay Meadow for our new stadium where we can make money 7 days a week the better

Take, take, take?
I'll take the season ticket price at £11 a game, lovely.
I thought the £16 I paid for the Charlton game was good value, a great win and the added bonus of a good game of entertaining, passing football .
That's all the Club get from me, the admission price. No one is forcing me to buy the merchandise, program, pie, or a golden gamble ticket. My only other match-day expense is a pint or two and those breweries are all take, take, take.
The Club are only maximising their revenue streams, lets face it the vast majority of our support want to see players like Ainsworth and Wright and not Dean Craven and Sam Aiston.
To answer the question posed by Billy, no I wouldn't go if it was free, I still have to to get there, get the time off etc.
£5 is perfectly reasonable if you chose to take the time and effort to go and watch.

£5 is reasonable yes thats not the argument, the argument is that there was a plan to treat the fans to free entry, this was blocked by stfc i just get the feeling that if oldham had suggested £5 we would have wanted £10
some of us were not in a position to buy a season ticket we pay up to £7 a game more for our troubles

But why should we miss out on any revenue?
As has already been pointed out, Oldham would have still made money on the spin-offs, the Club wouldn't have, unless Oldham offered to share that money, which I doubt. It's a great gesture by Oldham, but let's be realistic, the Club still has to get up there, pay any bonus that may be accrued, I'd imagine stand a pre-match meal and I wouldn't be surprised if the Club still lose money even after a cut of the gate.
This is speculation as the Club may have budgeted for an away tie in the first round of all the cups, but still why miss out on any revenue while Oldham take some from the sale of programs, pies, etc.
As for the season ticket, do what I do (if you've got the cheek) and ask for money toward next seasons in lieu of presents, explain that you'll be getting something that you really want and appreciate.....or not.
