His interview will be showed within the next 45 minutes. I wonder if he did it the day after their 5-0 drubbing to Preston.
Simpson out!

"a little bit of bitterness and anger" when at Town. Discussed "a bit of a dig at previous clubs". Wonder which one.

I was speaking to the SKY guy (Peter Stephenson?) in the press room ahead of the cup tie in midweek, and he told me he was staying overnight in the area as he had a job to do near Oswestry the following day. He went on to tell me that Simmo had invited him to his home in Maesbrook to do the interview. Said that he was one of very few managers who always made the press feel welcome, and spoke very highly of him. I know he was liked by all the press lads at Town and whatever his failings from the sidelines, he remains a really top bloke IMO. Looking forward to watching it on plus.

He said he didn't have enough time to see Jake Robsinson come to fruition. 44 games plus cup matches not enough then no?!

Keep the media on side and get a sympathetic hearing, maybe.
Not that I am a cynic or anything.

Not especially JT. But there are things that conspired against Paul within the football club. And I dislike the intense vilication of him on here. Each to their own I suppose. I'm happy to let others hold a different view to mine. As long as the debate is reasonable and not vitriolic or sensational (jaytee)

For all his failings, Paul was a thoroughly decent, jolly good fellow, imo

As long as the debate is reasonable and not vitriolic or sensational (jaytee) I would be delighted if he was a neighbour, seems a throughly decent chap. I gave him 2 and a half years support when I was clearly in the minority. But the bloke can moan for England. He was given money, but wasted it, (imo). He's gone, but stills moans about us to his friends on Sky.

I know he didn't do as well as he would of hoped at STFC, but he's great on the TV. Enjoy the programme whenever he's on.

Without doubt an nice guy but in his last two jobs he has alienated the fans enormously. Much is made of his 'media guile' but wasn't it via the media that he made most of his problems here? Cannot help but feel that if he was a bit more positive and kept the fans onside he would still be here this season. The running verbal battle he had with the 'minority' of fans was devisive and ultimately fatal for him.

I know other bits that went on, but in the end, I could see he'd lost the plot.

Typical Simpson in that he spoke and came across well.
But he hasn't changed. Tried to take credit for Preston's win in that they had a couiple of youngster's playing on Tuesday night that he had apparently brought into the club and nurtured.
He then tried to take the credit for Jake Robinson by saying he brought him to the Town and he knew what a good player he was.
Thing is Simmo, for whatever reason, Robbo failed under you last season, one of a number of players to do so. He has started like a new player this season.
Yes early days and all that, but you do wonder if Jake would have been given a chance under Simmo this season and if so if he would have come out of the blocks in the way he has so far?

Thing is Simmo, for whatever reason, Robbo failed under you last season, one of a number of players to do so. He has started like a new player this season. Robinson had hernia problems and a while to settle last season, so it could argued that Simpson was a bit unlucky, as with the Disley injuries. Robinson has said that he's fitter, sharper and probably more focused. The new style of play and system suits him and it's arguable whether Simpson's style/system would have/did. The thing about Simpson is that he's left 3 clubs with bad feelings and a bitter taste for various reasons. My old PNE supporting boss said exactly how it would work out when he found out he was manager 2 years ago and so it came to pass (as did the PNE fan who posted on here when Simpson started). It doesn't help that he alienated some of our supporters and it doesn't help when a female relation of his slags of the Club and it's supporters in the area where the centre stand meets the family stand.

A decent, articulate man who I really feel would be better off working as a pundit than a football manager. In respect of the reference to a female relative's open negativity towards the supporters we need to look at it from his family's perspective; if you are hearing abuse and extreme criticism aimed at a close relative you are likely to defend them vehemently.
He often spoke when here about managing expectations and he's been pretty clever by suggesting that Stockport's sole aim is to avoid relegation. I'm not suggesting they will be pushing for play offs but looking at their squad they should be mid-table.

An articulate and engaging media pundit but really happy that he is no longer the manager of the team I spend my money on watching.
A very stubborn, obstinate and limited football manager

Bet the Stockport fans love it that as he had taken them players to preston it put a bit of a smile on his face to see them doing well. Funny thing to say! Anyway, he came across well, as always but I think he must of paid them to say before hand that he was used to working with a tight budget!

A media darling but a poor manager who was rightly sacked. I'm not going to judge him on his ability to articulate a point but on his record at STFC and that was disappointing to put it mildly. Just once you wanted the reporter to say: "Paul, you spent a club record on Grant Holt but still didn't get promoted. How did you manage that?"
You've got to laugh at how these guys present themselves as authorities in a TV or radio studio and then look at their records. Kevin "Conference" Ratcliffe was at it again on Tuesday night on 5Live telling Nottingham Forest what they should be doing to beat Bradford.

For those of you wanting an interesting view of Paul Simpson buy the next B&A fanzine and enjoy our interview with James Constable, fascinating.
When we beat Bradford 8 of the starting 11 were GT signings and only 2 were signed by Paul Simpson. The two major losses of the summer (Langmead & Hibbert) were NOT Simpson signings.
I think we can therefore proclaim his transfer record as absolutely dire. Pugh leaves on a free, and we sign Neal. Think about it.

I'm glad he is no longer the manager but Simpson was by no means a Jake King/Kevin Ratcliffe or John Bond. Gave us some good moments, was a well spoken manager and I wish him well.

Agree with page58 and Roberto. High time we all got past this need to vilify Simpson. It's petty and pointless and makes us look insecure.
I'm not saying we airbrush our own history or anything so daft, just that it does us no credit to personalise it. All managers have their shortcomings and all stories have more than one side. Simpson and his teams gave us some great moments and some dreadful ones. Overall it was OK, we weren't good enough to go up but nor were we in the downward spiral we had been when he over. But that doesn't matter - he did his best, now he's gone and that's it.
I hope the fans will be big enough to give him a decent reception when Stockport visit (and up there in a couple of weeks). The anti-Simpson chants of some Rochdale fans were pathetic and we should do better. Time to say thanks and move on.
