What are the reasons because i for one cannot remember the club giving clear reasons as to why the badge was changed...sometimes an identity is a bit more than commercial. Agree with those two points wholeheartedly. I personally never signed the petition based on any commercial concerns and am not (as some have suggested) being 'negative'. A petition is just a formal way of registering a point of view held by many. I signed a petition about something I would like to see changed and that's it, forgotten - if something comes of it then great, if not then so be it. A football club is not a normal business and it means a lot to the community. The Loggerheads are synonimous with our town and I think it should have remained our badge.

The badge was changed because a copyright couldn't be placed on the loggerheads by the club who were looking to prevent knock off merchandise with the clubs logo on it and protect the brand of the club and have that brand working for the club.
Its all very romantic wanting to go back to the loggerheads, but its not going to happen due to the above reason. The club never neally have ever had a settled badge, it has always seemed to change over the years anyway. The new one i personally don't mind.
Bear in mind that the money used to change the letterheads, the stationary, all the merchandising etc, I would prefer to be spent on the team that plays on the park or in the COE.
The Loggerheads is not going to return, but the petition may be useful in the next badge.

What romantic nonsense. This club is not Real Madrid or Manchester United. How greatly is a club of our standing affected by knock off merchandise ?

Actually the statement regading the copyright of the loggerheads is not strictly correct. STFC used the town of Shrewsbury logo (i.e. the Loggerheads) as part of their badge, it was this I believe that couldnt be protected, however, if they were to develop a new logo which incorporated the heads in a slightly (minute detail) different way they could easily protect it. I cannot see, other than the new badge has STFC etc. on it how a clipart image can be copyrighted. The only way this is done is because it's been modified slightly and included in another image. Surely it would have been possible to have the famous leapords heads in a circular badge like the new one and copyright it. It is a real shame that part of our history has been discarded with very little thought to the fans.

I like your suggestion to call them leapords, that should get round that leopard copyright nonsense.

That was the official reason given at the time. I do agree with the fact that not a lot of knock off merchandise is produced, but do understand the clubs need to protect the brand, even though i do hate refering to footy clubs as brands!!

I'm not aiming this allegation at everyone who dislikes the new badge as I am included but isn't this another negative swipe at the club based upon a personal opinion. No, its about being a football fan, a supporter, having an identity with the club you follow. If you think its folk just having a dig a the club for the sake of it then you are way off... Why have the club taken a crest that is a clipart lion from a computer package (which means it's no doubt in use by others not just our club) that has nothing to do with the club that we follow, it has nothing to do with the town or county that the club represents. That lion has nothing to do with the club or the 125 history that we are now looking to celebrate. So folk don't get it, which is fine, thats ok, but will folk stop having a pop at us that do get it, that it does mean something to us. Just leave us to it, if you are happy with the clipart then why say anything? I will never wear that clipart lion BECAUSE IT IS NOT SHREWSBURY TOWN. Has nothing to do with the club, the history of the club or owt to do with anything of the club... Its an awful barsteward of a bagde put together in about 2 minutes that for some reason our chairman though was ok...it isn't, never will be and I can't wait for the day when we get someone in who understands the fans and will change it. Why should the supporters of Shrewsbury and those from Salop have the team that represents them have a crest which means nothing to either the town, county or people of Salop? The Loggerheads is the coat of arms of Shrewsbury, of Shropshire yeah? Say no more...

Just out of interest, how did fans react to the loggerheads being used as our badge when it last changed? Did it go down well or was it loathed?

Just out of interest, how did fans react to the loggerheads being used as our badge when it last changed? Did it go down well or was it loathed? I asked a similar question about the kit changes but didnt get an answer Since the ground move people have said the club have forgotten its history, its all about the money and we have basically lost our identity However in the time Ive followed us (late 80's) we have never had an identity. We have never had one colour kit (eg Blackpool tangerine) We have never had one style of kit (eg Celtic hoops) We have never had one badge (eg Liver Bird) We have never had one nickname (eg Spireites) We have never had a single club anthem/run out tune (eg Never Walk Alone) Believe me I would love it if we had a kit playing in Blue & Amber stripes with a Loggerheads badge, however I dont get particuarly worked up over it because its not something Ive really experienced and subsequently lost.

£70k to re-brand!!
Just makes the decision to go with a cheap and nasty badge that much more difficult to comprehend.
