I will be challenging the football club on this and expect to be able to purchase tickets for the friendlies at £5 a pop adults and £3 for children.
The e-mails I received from the football club (one for the original offer plus a reminder) read as follows:
[glow=red,2,300]Exclusive
Season ticket holders for Season 10/11 will have an exclusive Discount if tickets are bought before the end of June 2010, you can watch both games for as little as £6 for Seniors, Juniors and disabled and £10 for adults [/glow]
Now, the way I read that is that if you purchase your season ticket before the end of June (I purchased mine and the childrens in April) you get the match tickets for £5 per adult and £3 per child.
As I see it, take it to trading standards and they haven't a leg to stand on.
Call me petty if you like, but I have been intending to take the kids to both games. The outlay as their advert words it is £11 per game for the 3 of us so £22 outlay in 5 days for friendlies.
Now, according to the e-mail I received yesterday, it is going to cost me £10 and each child £5, so that is £20 per game or £40 for the two friendlies. Almost double.
Like I say, I will challenge them on this and they have the choice of the pleasure of £22 of my money or none at all on the principle of it. Plus the bad feeling this will leave. Not to mention the friends of mine who will also probably decide against attendance based on the misinformation.
STFC really should take more care of the way they word communications.

Call me petty if you like Petty. Seriously though, I can see where you're coming from. I found it a bit confusing myself, to be perfectly honest. Best thing to do is to put something on ShrewsChat, email a "question to the club" or email Ian.Bebbington@shrewsburytown.co.uk

The last time I put something on shrewschat (asking for fellow fans feedback) it had zero responses.
Also, Ian Bebbington is the Commercial Operations Manager, not the ticketing manager in any case.
I will go down in person with printed version of e-mail communications from the club and £22 in my sweaty palm.

I read it as discount applies if you buy the friendly tickets before the end of June........sorry. Agreed. For a variety of reasons I chose to buy the friendly tickets after June 30th and fully expected to pay the increased prices.

I read it as discount applies if you buy the friendly tickets before the end of June........sorry. You could not purchase tickets fro the firendlies in June. £10 is too much fro friendly games, £5 entry for all is much fairer.

And yes, the only reason I'm going to a PSF is because it costs a fiver.

Fiver per person and the gate would be higher for what are inconsequential games just a non competitive pre season preview, a tenner puts more off than it attracts simple as!

Chris - I don't see the confusion in the statement myself. However, if you contact the ticket office and explain the situation and the confusion I'm sure they'll help sort you out. Oh, and finally, chill dude

Yeah, i read it how they meant it too. Unless they're going to extend the cheaper prices for those who read it the other way.

Chris, companies will always wriggle out of statements by suggesting you have read it wrong or misinterpreted it. We have recently returned from holiday and on out invoice it states; Booking Reference - Txxxxxxx Package includes; 20Kg pp luggage / Visas and transfers. Includes inflight meals. departure (notice no capital letter) tax 25 Cuban pesos per person. Reading this it clearly states that the departure tax is included, however, when we tried to do this we were told NO CHANCE! When we got back I went to Going Places and they said that because it has a full stop after inflight meals it meant it wasnt included and was just there to remind us we had to keep the 50 pesos to exit the country. Wording can be misleading, having read the email you posted I can see that both meanings could be valid (in the eyes of the law that is). Good luck though if you try.

£10 = not going £5 = not going
Coventry City just doesn't do it for me, if they had maybe pulled in a decent Premiersh ite team then i may have bothered.

Can't be arsed with them and moreso these days with the cost of them (in England anyhows). Folk have to pick and choose their games a lot more these days than in the past...folk need to think twice about friendly and cup games now. Granted I may not appreciate the value of the pound but ten of them to see Town against a 2nd division side seems a tad on the expensive side.
I think the last Town friendly game I went to could have been Dick Pratley’s testimonial game...that were a few years back now…

Prefer to go to the away friendlies at none league sides I've not been too before - but haven't been able to make it to the Joma tournament.
From a team point of view I can see that Coventry and Tranmere will be a good work out, but they don't really appeal from a fans point of view so will give the games a miss, especially having missed out on the £5 offer.
I'm probably being really dim, and its mentioned elsewhere, but is are there Shropshire Senior Cup games in the pre-season schedule this year?

Good luck though if you try. in all fairness Blum, I read that as a list of things included and then a statement that tax was 25 pesos. The full stop does give it that emphasis to me. I'm just glad you didn't get locked up for taking photos.....

The thing is it is ambiguous wording and communications should be checked for things like this before being issued to the fan base.
Incidentally, I have had several communications from people who read it the same as me. Oner person tells me he went down Tuesday to pick up season ticket and buy the friendly tickets and was gobsmacked when they asked for double what he thought he had to pay.
I can see now that it can be taken both ways But the word 'Friendly' should have been incorporated after 'if' and before 'tickets' like so:
Exclusive
Season ticket holders for Season 10/11 will have an exclusive Discount if friendly tickets are bought before the end of June 2010, you can watch both games for as little as £6 for Seniors, Juniors and disabled and £10 for adults
Then there would be no confusion and I would have been perfectly happy to make the effort to go down before the end of June to buy the tickets.
This is just an o.g. by the club. It's poor PR and it leaves a sour taste.
I don't particularly wish to moan at the club and I am often supportive of them and the initatives they undertake, even when others have taken exception.
However, they also need to be made aware when they get things wrong

I thought exactly the same thing, but my misses said are you sure and i said yes. I read it again and thought about it, then i went down the ground and bought them before the end of June anyway, but i must admit i thought the same until my misses said are you sure.

Must admit that I it as you have to buy the tickets for the friendlies before the end of June to get them at the reduced amount of £5, rather than have purchased the season tickets before the end of June
Either way I wont be attending anyway, not so much the price of the ticket, I just find pre-season friendlies boring

I read it as you must buy the friendly tickets before the end of June, but I forgot I went down on the 1st of July to buy mine and my brothers tickets and asked if the offer was still on because it had slipped my mind and the young man behind the counter replied "No it finished yesterday" so I said thankyou I won't bother then and walked away. So the the club lost £20.

I know the club will see it as getting criticised no matter what they do but end of June does seem a long time as its nearly a month before the two games
Most people I know dont consider getting tickets for league games until the week leading up to the game (unless its a big game), so I wonder how many people are going to plan going to a pre-season game a month in advance?
Its things like this that make me think the club are trying but cant quite manage to get things right

Agree with you 100% on this. Granted it is a bit ambiguous and can be read either way, but charging £10 per match for a friendly is taking the p**s. My views on this are posted on the thread, "the new red away shirt".
I can,t see why season ticket holders have to apply before a certain date. The ground holds 9000 plus. If 3000 S.T.H. want to watch the game there will be 6000 seats for the casual supporter to sit in. Why do i have to "claim" my seat before a certain date for a match which hardly stirs the imagination. Why can't i just plonk myself down in my seat, bought on the night if i wish, and preferably for £5. Why can,t non S.T.H. pay £5. Don't tell me its because they want to have a rough idea of the numbers due to the policing or security criteria. The crowd will not be that big.
Another point, if they wish to entice more fans to these games, could they, just on these occassions, open the car park for all on a first come first served basis. You know, like in the old days at the Meadow.

Pre season games should be free entry to encourage the Shrewsbury and Shropshire folk to come and support thier club for the coming season. Maybe a few extra might come back over the season or even better join the band wagon of shrewsbury town on a more regular basis.

Telford got 1400-odd for their free entry game against Prescott Cables
Then in the slightly more glamourous game against Hereford, they got 800

If it was free entry for a pre season game how many people who dont normally go to the game would go, a fair few i would guess, and they would also encourage others to go. I think it would be a good idea every pre season to try and get the stadium full its a really good way to sell the club.
