The FA are talking about scrapping FA Cup replays to accomodate for a winter break. FA are currently looking to change the FA Cup and even looking to play some round matches midweek. Link------> The Guardian I feel this could wreck the cup, replays are a chance for smaller clubs to cash in and benefit more finnacially and have TV exposure and more importantly gives teams another chance to settle the tie in open play instead of just kicking a ball from 12 yards out. The FA Cup is special because of things like replays and weekend kick offs and of course the Cup shocks, except of course if you are on the receiving end!!! Your thoughts?

Terrible, terrible idea. They can fiddle about with the Carling Cup, Champions League and Europa League all they want but the FA Cup is special because of what it is and replays should stay! The idea of playing midweek games is also a poor idea but changing the dates probably isnt too bad, maybe move the third and fourth rounds to before christmas and then resume the competition again in february allowing all the Premiers**te clubs to have their precious money spinning tours of the far east, australia, america etc winter break!

What an apalling idea.
Why should we try to help the Premier clubs in the FA Cup, most of them don't take it seriously anyway putting out under strength sides. Tell to sod off and not bother entering it at all and leave it to those that are really interested

Awful idea
Why is it that only the 20 premiership clubs are being asked about a decision that affects the entire football pyramid???
Cup replays can form a massive financial boost to lower league clubs

Terrible idea
Think of the amount of smaller clubs who have had the glory of drawing with a big team at home and then having the experience of a replay at theres. Drawing and then losing on penalties doesnt quite have the same appeal
Sadly, the Premier League have all the power now so I wouldnt be surprised for this to happen
If the Premier League want to reduce tiredness, how about stop flying players over to the other side of the world for pre-season 'tournaments'. Or how about lobbying UEFA to reduce the amount of games in the Champions League or the Europa League
But then that might hurt their income.........

If they were in the developing world I would slightly understand but they seem to be at places that are no worse off than the UK. It also annoys me when clubs are described as 'brands' and 'products', that support is something to be sold like in those Teleshopping adverts on sky. Maybe the FA Cup should be renamed the Premiership Cup as it appears that they hold the power over it. If we arent careful the whole competition may get scrapped in the years to come.

Some of the smaller clubs in the league and non league can survive for years off one good cup run. Now they want to take all that away to look after the premier league! It's a disgrace. They're all paid thousands each week, have luxury homes and holidays and now they want to screw over the little clubs to give them some more time off. What a joke. The FA are just like the ConDems, making sure the rich get richer and the poor get poorer!

The FA Cup is dying. In my opinion it's rapid demise is really sad.
I notice that Shrewsbury Town's FA Cup match last season drew a crowd that was significantly lower than the average league game, so I guess it's not just the Premier League clubs who are turning their backs on the competition?

Personally I don't think it's such a bad idea. I think it's more exciting to get the tie done and dusted in one game and might give the smaller teams more chance of taking a few scalps - replays away to the big boys may be money spinners but the minnows invariably get well beaten in them. Would rather see the League Cup scrapped as a way to lessen the number of games clubs are having to play, but don't see that happening so...

Well we were at home against a club below that of the conference, yet prices were still as normal. We also had the unfortunate cup defeat the season before against a side of the same level and were from memory in a run of home games. And it turned out to be the worst performance I can ever remember

Its not clear to me from that bit in the paper whether the top clubs are voting on doing away with FA Cup replays or voting on a winter break if they were to be knocked on the head. I gather its the latter. Doesn't suprise me in anyway that its another competition that needs to make a change rather than the Premier League itself. As for the Cup, it might well mean clubs losing out on a big pay day if they were to manage a draw but if your holding a top flight side at home maybe you'd fancy the extra time and pens to finish the job on the night... If it can help the national side in anyway then I'm for it...

Reduce the Premier league to 16 teams. Championship 24, league 1 - 24, league 2 - 24, create a new league 3 - 20 add 14 teams from non League who have the stadium infastructure.

Hasnt it always been like that? A bigger team faces a smaller team at home and the crowd is lower? If we were to play Man U at their place now I have no doubts that the home crowd would drop because a home game against Shrewsbury wouldnt be the most appealing. However it would have been the same 30 years ago You have used our game as an example and its a fair point. But from our point of view, the game was against a team several leagues below us, as it was a FA Cup game it wasnt included in the season ticket games so people would had to have fork out extra money for it. And as people have mentioned prices were not reduced so a lot of people didnt go, simply to make a point (and well relieved we didnt go!!!) Your right though that the FA Cup is dying. The top 4 dont care about it because they are more interested in the Champions League as thats where the money is. The rest of the Premier League dont care about it as much because its all about staying in the Premier League as thats where the money is. In the past it was the glory of winning the cup, now its about the money from staying in the league The only way it might change in attracting interest again in the Premiership is having an overhaul of the European football and go back to how it was (European Cup, UEFA Cup, Cup Winners Cup), but there isnt a chance of that happening And of course the integrity of the cup was reduced when Man Utd were allowed/forced (delete on whether your a Utd fan or not!!) to withdraw from it that one season. Whilst this has been mainly a thread slating the Premiership, lets not forget that using the FA Cup to rest players or squad rotation as some might call it, has been used by a lot of lower league clubs. In fact Im sure under GP we did it as he didnt like the cups at all

I'm a spurs fan, but even though it would likely to be to their detriment now, i'd like to see the fa cup winners get the champions league place - or even a playoff between them and the 4th place team. - That would get the interest back.
Think scrapping the fa cup replays is a poor idea and wouldn't lead to that much change. Take for example this season, Liverpool were knocked out early on - due to the priority given to the cup over the league (no premier league games are played on the day of a cup round early on) it meant they had a week off when the 4th round was played, and another week off when the 5th round was played. Did this time off help gerrard and carragher?

I read it a fair bit in the press at the time, you see it mentioned every now and then...
Can someone please tell how Manchester not taking part in the Cup damaged the competition in any way? I thought at the time it was nothing more than a means by the press to have a pop at the FA...which they take great joy in doing. Have always felt that way.
Yet do supporters feel this way too? As I am at a loss as to why. The Cup is far more than any one club. I thought it had about the same impact as when Town made the decision not to take part way back when we joined the league...the Cup went on as usual, nothing changed...

Do what they do in Germany
Top teams are drawn away to teams lower down to ensure tasty and interesting ties.

A bit ambivalent on this, on one hand I don't like the idea of taking the opportunity of another big pay day away from small clubs but, on the other, it would be exciting (and maybe more attractive) to know there will be a winner.
Imagine if the United v Exteter game of three seasons or so back had gone to penalties. Could have been the biggest upset of all time.
I'd like to see something done to help the national team. Maybe we could have a Premier League of 18 or even 16 clubs and merge the Conference sides into a Division Five (League Three)

I think it makes it worse pandering to the Premiers**t Clubs and screwing the lesser leagues into the ground . I would get rid of the Premeirs**t League and breakaway with the other leagues and have our own FA Cup etc . The Premiers**t League would soon burn itself out . God riddance to it as it has ruined our club players , our national team and our pride .

Do what they do in Germany Top teams are drawn away to teams lower down to ensure tasty and interesting ties. There is that but as a supporter of a side in the lower reaches of German football I’d like the chance to see the Kickers play at stadiums they’re not likely to visit in the league. Wouldn’t mind seeing the Kickers play in Munchen for example, or Dortmund, or even a stadtderby against VfB in the Adlof Hitler Stadium…you don’t get that because the Kickers are always given a home tie against top flight sides… So there is good and bad about that way of doing things I’d say…
