Pre Season about to start and our current team, to put into bluntly is average at best.
I think we all agree last seasons squad was no where near promotion standard, and as far as I can see we are alot worse off than this time last season.
We have lost out top scorer,No 1, first choice full bank, centre back and midfielder.
So far people seem to be caught up in Turners emotional return, but the facts are unless we sign 5/6 decent players before the season starts we WILL struggle again this year.
It`s all very well GT bringing in all his mates but where are the players!!

You would like it sorted sooner rather than later I guess...
But like any manager at this club you stand and fall by the signings...
Its fair to say Turner has it harder than Peters and Simpson in trying to rebuild, there are less quality players now on the books than there was when the other two over.
Turner is a hero of the club, but will not be immune from the critics if we bring in a load of new players (again) who dont cut it...
Could go either way, and half the fun is waiting to find out where we end up on week one of the season.

I would much rather wait and hope to get what are considered the best players for the club than rush out and sign any players just because they are available. At the moment none of us know what negotiations are going on behind the scenes, I for one fully expect decent signings in the not too distant future. You say "Turner bringing his mates in", well nothing unusual about a new manager putting his management team in place early in his tenure, often (if not usually) some from his previous club. I know from experience in management (not football) that after a manager was selected the first position to fill was assistant manager and this was usually someone I knew and had worked with before, he could then carry on running things on a day to day basis whilst the manager could get down to the organizing of staff etc. Turner would not have been my choice as our new man but now that he is here I trust him to use his experience and enthusiasm to do a good job for us, I am sure he is as aware as you of what players are needed and will be doing his utmost to get them.

Just havign a think, is this the current squad...
Keepers Chris Neal Defenders - Dean Holden, Shane Cansell Sherriff, Danny Taylor, Harry Hooman, Connor Goldson, Ian Sharps
Midfiield- Steve Leslie, Kevin MacIntyre, Lewis Neal, Craig Disley, Van De Broek, John Taylor
Forwards - Chris Bright (injured), Tom Bradshaw, Jake Robinson, Nathen Elder (Injured)
Frankely when you look at that its abit worrying, Midfield is terrible, assuming that Disley eventually gets fit. If not its even worse. Up front we are sparse with the two injured players (and there two players deemed so bad last season they were dumped on the transfer list)
At the back, only some minor tinkering is needed I feel, a new left back would be great, and some further cover across the back.
Will Neal be first choice? Or will be on the bench as we bring in another?

As today's July the 1st - most contracts finish at the end of June - I expect lots of transfer news in general.
Unless I've missed something is Akinfwa (ex Northampton striker) still a free agent?

When you consider there are 18 players in the squad it gives GT plenty of room to get in the players he wants.Looking at it the strikers look the area needed most and then midfield,i am sure we will get more players in soon.

When that current teamsheet is put in black and white it makes for dismal reading.

But we won't be running out against Bradford with the current teamsheet will we. Patience is key, i am sure new signings will be announced soon.

Does anyone seriously think that we are going into next season without any further signings? Patience is a virtue and a sign of maturity, calm down

I'd be deeply concerned if the season started tomorrow and this was the squad we had.
However, I've no doubt we'll see several signings arriving over the next couple of weeks.
There is absolutely no way that GT is, for example, planning to start the season with our only two fit strikers, Bradshaw and Robinson, playing together up front.

i think long term future has to be thought about at the moment with Turner's return. OK last "2" seasons on the trot we have lost the clubs top goal from the last season in Holt & Hibbo and decent Midfielders in Davis and Dunfield, 'BUT' we have seen some great potential coming in with Bradshaw & the Taylor brothers. The introduction of Sharps give me a little confidnce as i thought he played well when i saw him both at the Meadow and up in Rotherham, so who knows who Turner has in the pipe line and lets hope it is someone decent both up front and a HUGE pressence in midfield to make the game always Town's and to hold the ball better

Deep breath everyone... And relax. Turner will add another 5 or 6 to potential first teamers we already have such as C Neal, Holden, Sharps, SCS, Taylor x2, VDB, Macca, Disley, Leslie & Bradshaw. We also have another batch of underperformers like L Neal, Robinson, Bright, Elder etc who could turn the corner and thrive under GT. Sure we're very light at the moment but almost every other side will be in the same situation. Lets not lose our heads just yet. We can easily save that for mid August!

I expect a lot of clubs are in the same position today. There's a lot of business to be done in the next couple of months, as usual. No reason to panic at all.
I don't agree that the current squad is as bad as some are suggesting. In answer to HYPE's question, I'm encouraged that we have Sherriff and Disley, I think there's a lot of potential in the young players and I believe a lot of the players that were disappointing last season could be much better this time.
Everyone should be given the chance of a clean slate, not written off on the first day of training.

Turner is a very clever man, he Waite's till a week before the season starts, then he signs his players, you know the sort, the kind that no one else wants so that he can offer them peanuts. He's done it this way at H.U.F.C. for the past 10+ years. Has he been successful? you decide.

Fair point where your pennyless Hereford , but he should have a little more clout in wages and transfere budgets here (Shrewsbury Town = The club that paid money for Nathen Elder ) Dont think most would be happy unless we go out and sign a couple of players whith some kind of pedegree... Sharps was a good start... a player of his ilk in midfield and attack and as many loan players as GT wants I would be happy. We need a spine to the team...

A minimum of 7 decent players short of a play off squad - hope that they are all ready to sign the dotted line.

Not concerned yet, it could just be that 2 or 3 players are all very close to signing and we'll see a rush of new blood coming in through the next week or so.

Have seen quite a bit of Turner lately, giving interviews, and i must say, i like what i have seen. He seems quite, assured and confident without being over zealous with the way he see's things panning out in the future. I hope we achieve promotion, but i am sure we will see a more enjoyable game of football this season than in the past. I don't think we are too far short of a good squad. A few signings of the right type could help improve the performances of those who under achieved last year. He still has time on his side, but obviously he is not going to tell us who his targets are until they have signed their contracts. We may be pleasantly surprised.
I,ve had enough doom and gloom over the past week with our wonderful "golden age" England team, and look what they achieved. Lets look forward to the new season with a sense of excitement, instead of this "we're going to be rubbish" attitude.

I honestly think we could pick a good attacking eleven that when confident can play some awesome stuff. I like teh way Robinson and Lewis neal were full on the weights in todays photos, maybe hes told them something. We all know that Robinson and Neal have good skill but are built like pigeons and have no strength, this could be about to change. With what we have we could possibly beat anyone in this league anyway.
GK Neal
Holden/D Taylor Sheriff Sharps Mcintyre
LW John Taylor/Lewis Neal CM Leslie CM Disley RM Van Den Broeck
FW Robinson FW Bradshaw
Heck in all honestly you can do something with this, 4 or 5 signings as back up and bingo.

Just in referance to the point made above, I'm really looking forward to seeing Robinson and Neal next season. Both have clearly got ability, but we only saw glimpses of it last season. They will both be hoping for a fresh start under a new manager, and who knows they could both suprise us.
I just hope ALL the fans treat it as a fresh start for all our players, and get behind them from the start, forgetting their troubles from last season. Unfortunately I can see a couple of mindless idiots getting on the backs of Neal in particular straight from the off

Not too bothered yet. Plenty of irons in the fire. Think of the savings we've already made. Manager. No manager for 11 weeks @ £200.00 per week. Total savings - £2.200.00. Loadsamoney.

"I'd be deeply concerned if the season started tomorrow and this was the squad we had". I wouldn't, there is some talent there, Robinson has proved before that he can cut it but IMO became a shadow of the player he can be due to a certain amount of panic buying / loaness up front. Bradshaw will be hungry to prove he can go all the way (ala Joe Hart). One or two (maybe three) good senior signings with some bite and attacking midfield we wont be far away.
