Great speech from Bob Crow and enjoyed the other speeches as well. I fear we could again see workers criminalised for exercising their trade union rights as people resist the unfair austerity measures the Con Dems intend to inflict on us. Did Mr Crow also mention his 20% payrise whilst expecting union members to take nothing this year!!

The variation in topics is what makes this site stand out. It's simple enough - if you aren't interested, don't read (or contribute!)

cobblers! the site is called blue & amber it should be about STFC! If members agreed with you, these threads would just fizzle out. They don't - on the contrary, they flourish. All kinds of political/economic/social subjects are discussed and (most of the time ) the debates are of a high quality. What right do you (or that geezer from Geneva) have to come on here and dictate what topics are raised? As the previous poster said, "If you aren't interested, don't read it". Either that or sod off and stop trying to interfere with our enjoyment and freedom of speech.

Whilst I agree in principle that Warren and Tomlinson may have been convicted in dubious circumstances, the fact still stands that Tomlinson had the opportunity to apologise to the injured man and by all accounts appeared to decline to do so, therefore condoning the actions of the actual perpetrator. The fact also remains that flying pickets used bullying tactics to intimidate people that just wanted to go to work and provide for their families, Warren and Tomlinson helped to organise these people and are in my opinion at least partially culpable for any injuries sustained. Jamo, are you really saying that it is right for one man to stop another from supporting his family? Also is it right to use, encourage or condone violence to do so? I hope that you can answer no to both of these questions, as I believe you to be a man of principles, but your answers would go a long way to either proving or disproving my as sumption. Excellent post.

Why don't you and the other politicoes "sod off" to another place to air your views? I just looked at some our your recent posts, one of them was on Seans thread called "Get our while you can" Presumably you wont mind if I tell you to sod off elsewhere to discuss your financial interests as this is a STFC forum

you and the swiss lad should really read the general page of the board. i would like to bring to your attention to the bit that says " B&A Shrewsbury Town Messageboard - 64 Viewing (5 sub-boards) Discuss everything STFC and other general topics here "

You have me there, but still think we should concentrate on STFC matters (reaches for tin hat)! i have never understood the semi regular complaints about off topic threads. you can see by the title usually so leave them alone. if all we had to comment on was the club, we would have a very quiet board. no tin hat required on my account

What was the actual attendance?? Not good with numbers but about 2,500 /3,000 i would guess. excellent day. How many of those were season ticket holders/corporate members? How many did the opposition bring? Finally, it's threads like this that make B & A interesting, if was just about football I wouldn't bother anymore.

According to the Star, there was about 500 people on the march
Interesting comment from Ricky Tomlinson in the Star, along the lines of "we want this clearing up for the people of Shrewsbury"
Must admit that I dont know too many Salopians who are overly concerned about this, in fact most of the stories Ive read/heard have been anti-Tomlinson. If he feels there has been a mis-carriage of justice then good luck to him to get it looked at again but I think its a bit rich to suggest he's doing it for the people of Shrewsbury

Of that 500 were they all from Shrewsbury, I suppose it's hard to know. I often wonder if the people who attend these sort of marches do so out of political persuasion or a genuine concern the man is innocent. If it's the latter (which I doubt) then there are a million more worthy causes to march - dedicate your time for. As for clearing it up for the people of Shrewsbury, a typical leftish ploy ergo "were doing it for you brother". Don't much care about Dessie Warren, don't like Ricky Tomlinson. A court of appeal upheld his conviction that will do for me. Hope the gent doesn't visit Salop again.

Seems to have sparked quite a bit of B&A interest, this. Found some interesting reading in the Guardian's obituary of Dessie Warren www.guardian.co.uk/news/2004/may/01/guardianobituaries.politicsOfficers from several police forces were based in Prestatyn, to fan out across north Wales and north-west England seeking evidence against ringleaders in the dispute. Among the faces picked up on photographs shown to 800 people were that of the long-haired, 35-year-old Warren, and the bearded activist, Tomlinson. The pair were among six people arrested one morning in February 1973. Initial intimidation and affray charges were dropped, and the two pleaded not guilty that October to offences under the 1875 Conspiracy And Protection Of Property Act relating to a flying picket sent to Shrewsbury. and this from www.shrewsburypicketscampaign.org.uk/with_a_nod_or_a_wink.htmIn his opening address at the first of three Shrewsbury trials on 3 October 1973, prosecuting counsel, Maurice Drake QC, told the jury that the pickets would be described as being, ‘like a swarm of Apache Indians’. One of their witnesses said he heard pickets shouting ‘Kill! Kill! Kill!’. The pickets had actually been shouting ‘Kill! Kill! Kill! The Lump’. Unlawful assembly and conspiracy to intimidate had been added to the earlier charge of affray. The conspiracy charge, using an act of 1875, allowed for an unlimited jail sentence. Drake explained the incredible nature of this charge. You didn’t have to meet, you didn’t even have to know each other; a conspiracy could be arranged, ‘with a nod and a wink’.This is an interesting watch, too...

Great to se so many from B& A there as well ( we may need to set up our own socialist sub board at this rate) good to put some faces to names. Next year, bigger and better socialist sub board

No mate not at all, we all have our crosses to bear I feel a correct investigation into the death of Dr David Kelly is far more worthy. The Tomlinson issu efor me has a political agenda with bias, Kellys death for me is state murder and although influenced by political issues is not a party agenda. As I say each to their own.

There was a nationwide attendance which can be confirmed by the most cursory of investigations. People attend these sort of `events` out of political alligience, social concious and a belief that sometimes. just sometimes , the state gets things wrong As for Dessie Warren and Ricky Tomlinson, well they are just names. What really matters is that people were jailed because of political intervention in order to achieve political solutions. One more thing. Warren died as a direct result of his treatment in jail and his medical treatment whilst incarcerated. When his family asked that his medical records be released under the Freedom of Information Act, guess what..the Prison Service - a government agency- had to admit that they had been `lost` and were no longer available. When the family pressed the matter and approached Jack Straw- as Home Secretary- to release the official papers from the time they were told that this could not be done under the Prevention of Terrorism Act !! Anymore questions come back to me

Fair enough, but I don't see it as an 'either / or'. Many of the people on Saturday's march would have protested against the invasion of Iraq and would no doubt agree with your views on the Dr David Kelly episode.

It creases me how bosun is a prolific poster on a thread he doesn't want to read, thereby making it longer and ensuring it stays near the top of the page.
