I must admit, I have been anti-England. However, when I think about it a bit more I think it would be good if they won the World Cup.... it would increase the chance of it coming to England in 2018 which would be my best chance of seeing World Cup games. Good luck to them..

He was born in Wales and is generally anti English but it looks like he wants us to win the world cup so it might give him a better chance of seeing a world cup game.

I live in that North West corner of Wales referred to in an earlier thread as being inhabited by Plaid Cymru supporters..and it's true!
Try putting up any English flags in a pub they'll be quickly ripped down.
I was in a pub near Mold when the French scored those 2 late goals against England. The place erupted! Believe me, in this corner of Wales they enjoy England losing more than any other Nation on earth.
I therefore watch the 6 Nations Rugby at home! Even if it's Italy playing England they want the Italians to win.

No phone signals Even radio signals refuse to wave there Their language requires an enormous amount of spitting Their sea doesn't have real waves just dribbles And they have more than a normal relationship with sheep Its also full of rain and Welsh people

Our family have taken over a hotel in Borth for a weekend. It's a right mix. Some English, some Welsh, some mixed race. I'll try and force the Welsh gits in the rooms furthest from the bar. ;D

Jaytee shove them up a sheep so they will feel right at home Right, I'm going tell a Welsh joke now, it was told to me by my very good friend, 10 Owen, who was from Carn av.....Caernavo...North Wales. He used to tell it with the North Wales lilt. Army Corporal : Right, no-one must fire their rifle till I say so. BANG!!!! Army Corporal : Jones, I thought I said no-one was to fire till I said so. Jones : It's all right, Corporal, the bullet won't go far, I only pulled the trigger gently! I got a million of 'em.

Back to the initial post : I Spent a cracking weekend in South West Wales and didnt notice a single Welsh car flag in that time. Plenty of england ones on display from the holidaymakers though, and the local supermarkets also were festooned with England flags promoting the world cup of drinking and football.
Prior to that 2 days spend in Cardiff - no Welsh car flags, but the normal display of patrotism with Rugby shirts.
Is this a North Wales thing?

Is this a North Wales thing? Sort of. Cardiff is a university city, political capital, pretty multicultural (e.g.g a large somali population), and rugby is the game. Compare that to Mid / North Wales. Much less diversity, fewer outsiders, and football is the game, hence the dislike of the England football team.

During the Industrial Revolution there was significant population movement from England to South Wales, many South Wales people must therefore have English ancestry. Some would also argue that historically Monmouthshire is an English county-- Discuss.

After living on Anglesey for 2 years, my dislike for the Welsh is understandable. Don't get me wrong, there are lot of nice people and I made some good friends up there, but there are a great many in North Wales that despise the English.
North West Wales is real Welsh Nationalist country and in my experience the English are mainly only tolerated as tourists that bring money into the area.
The language is used as a weapon by some to get at the English, when they haven't got the balls to say something to your face (similar to some of the Poles where I work at the moment using Polish to talk about people right in front of them, but again not having the guts to say what they mean in English).
My girlfriend when I was living on Anglesey was Welsh and her grandmother refused to speak to me, because I couldn't speak Welsh, her English was fine, but she was just a stubborn old b***h and disliked the English.
Let's not forget Meibion Glyndwr going round burning down English owned holiday homes, because the locals couldn't be bothered to drag themselves out of their favourite ewe and get job to buy the houses that were then snapped up by English people with a few quid to spare. This kind of petty minded jealousy sums the Welsh up quite nicely IMO.
