I've seen some of the post about this, and I have to say like everyone else I'm really disappointed about the way this has been handled.
The idea is fine, but the big problem is that basically OUR night has been hijacked.
I'm all in favour of the club looking at ways of generating income, but what about the people who have been doing it all season eh!
I here from Chris Smith that the awards night for the Away Supporters will continue. Whether this is again combined with other groups I'm unclear at this stage. According to Chris he was foofered a couple of dates around the main presentation on the 8th.
I know that Chris is exactly happy by this, and told the Commercial Group meeting the other night that he would do everything to put the supporters point of view across on this.
It obvious that th main event is being aimed at corporarte and business people and again I'm fine by that. But you get the feeling that basically the club seem to be truning there noses up at the general supporters who go week in and week out.
We need to strike a balance, and I'm afriad on this occasion, it hasnt been struck.
Although I can understand Ian's relcutance to get Mark on the messageboard, due to one or two comments, I dont think the club can do the usual bury there heads in the sand attitude. Let him have a look, gauge opinion.
It's a shame this has happened as the Umbrella Group has made brilliant progress over the last ten months. Why didnt they come and ask us I dont know.
Again as a money making opportunity to tap into the prawn sandwich brigade I'm fine with it, and I feel most Town fasn should be. After all one of the reasons we are laughing at Telford is becuase they rellied on one man who eventually went bankrupt. But events like these shouldnt be at the expense of the current end of season bash for example. The club once again leaves itself open for criticism which could have been easily avoided.
I wish Mark all the best for his event, and hope that it raises lots of money. Ordinary Town fans shouldnt feel put out by this, as long as our normal nights can go ahead. But again, come on STFC, get your PR and communication right eh!
Cheers
