watched the premiership this morning and was amazed at the referees decision in the spurs v chelsea game. the most blatent penalty since darby at hereford and also taricco smackin duff in the face and stayin on. also henri camara with one of the worst challenges i have seen. nearly snaps the guys leg in two and gets a yellow card. madness.
i know they have a tough job to do and i dont envy them one bit but when they miss things like that then they deserve abuse from the crowd

The one at Canvey was crap yesterday.
At one point he had both sets of fans singing "You don't know what you're doing".

Agree with you shrewfan, but really gets me is they miss stuff like that, but by god if a player doesnt place the ball within 3 millimeters of where a foul place when taking a free kick

I have done my fair share of ref slating both at matches and on here. However, I've been thinking and it occurs to me that no-one becomes a ref unless they are completely arrogant, hard headed, stubborn, bumtious (not sure I've spelt that right!), and never wrong. Anyone with any sense of an idea that they may sometimes make a mistake and have to admit it would never become a ref in the first place. Anyone with any sense of feeling would not put themselves through the abuse hurled regularly (and sometimes justifiably) at them by the crowd, players and managers. We have to accept and live with the fact that the greater majority of refs live by the rules: Rule no. 1 - I'm always right Rule no. 2 - Even if you appeal - see rule no. 1

That's right Grinfish, he was terrible, possibly the worst I have seen this season.
He wasn't biased and in no way did he directly contribute to the result, Canvey were by far the better side over the 2 legs.
However, some of his decisions he made were beyond belief. He seemed to go in 15-minute spells where he would give every decision in favour of one of the teams and then swap over!
He managed to seriously annoy both sets of fans and I am sure provide much merriment for the neutral fan.
I must be missing your point, maybe you thought I was blaming the ref (?), I wasn't, I was just stating the facts!

ermm. Dont think thats the point, people are sick to death of refs who are totally inconsistent and picky, think that we have come to watch him rather than them, seem to have no idea what footballs about. Everyone accepts that refs are only human and will make mistakes, but the quality of refs ive seen this year has been absolutely shocking. Do they get paid on a commision basis in respect to the number of times they blow their friggin whistle.

Just to play devil's advocate again Pab - I agree the standard of refereeing has been poor but this is the Conference - the football is poor, crowds are poor etc. so we're unlikely to get anything better than a poor referee.
I thought the one on Saturday had a decent game

So do I to be fair, but he really was the exception this season.
As for your other point, well I cant agree. Mainly because from what little I see of premiership footy, ( not a lot to be fair ), they are as crap as the ones we get.
