Manager of the Vets Jamo2 has played a cagey set of mind games this week keeping the specific details of his squad under raps until the day of the game. During today’s Press day however we were give a glimpse into some of the ideas that Jamo has been having. One thing is clear however, dominate keeper JP will start for the Vets, Jamo Commented “ JP has had a good week in training and is looking sharp, and he has worked well with Goal Keeping coach Ian “safehands” Dumbavin all week”. JP him self was eagerly looking forward to the game “ its going to be tough, one of there lads will be looking to break the 20 barrier on Saturday so he will be extra motivated, and they have goals through out the team”. The selection of JP ahead of OffShore Shrew was seen as a message to the ASFC that the emphasis will be to keep it tight and go for a smash and grab win.
ASFC “No Fear”
On the other side of Shrewsbury a relaxed player/manager of ASFC sits back after training happy in the knowledge he has prepared his boys 100% for the challenge of the vets. “We have had them watched” claims Dave Owen “ and there’s no doubt that there are some talented players in the vets Team, many of which we have faced before”. Owens confidence is from a golden age in the history of his club. “ Never before have we kept so many clean sheets in a row since I came to the club and just about every lad has been on top form, recently Jerry, Phil at the back have been unbeatable, Ant in centre mid has been the dominate force in games and I have weighed in with the odd goal or 19” Quips the “Gaffer” as his troop call him. When asked about the duel role he fills in the team he shrugged it off suggesting “its easy when every one of my players is a natural leader anyway” . It seems Owen is confident of leading the ASFC to another victory.
Mascots Chosen for the big game
The side lines will be packed with supporters on Saturday but there will be several with very close connections to the game. Today the Vets announced there 2 mascots for the game TOAO and Jeveesy. Both will be looking to see the Vets take the win and will be there to create an atmosphere. For the Away supporters the usual crowd will be in attendance – who have stuck through with the club in hard times but a mention must go to a ASFC player Blakemore who after making a big move away from the club and been struck down with a nasty Knee injury will be back to see his old team mates hopefully get another win. Controversially the drunk lines man from last week who ruled out a perfect goal from ASFC striker Glyn Price will be in attendance and it is believed that Norge will be a neutral for this game – but then say he supported the winners all along
Pitch-er Perfect
Grounds men at the SCAT pitch’s today hailed the hard work that had been put in as a total success as the game will go ahead in near perfect conditions. Brian Ferrry Chief of the Grounds Staff stated that “ it needed a lot of work on it after the Perkins CC game as the High winds, Rain and lots of sliding tackles had damaged the pitch badly but its dry now and the forecast is only for some showers over night and then a clear, dry and warm day on Saturday. This will come as a blow to the vets who may have seen the pitch as a levler as the ASFC brand of pass and move football would have been disrupted, which could have been take advantage off. Police today also made a official statement saying that encroachment non to the pitch and streekers will be harshly dealt with.
